I think he found that himself.
You can't get 'em here, or at least I think you can't.

You have to use something like Animation Shop. You could get a trial for that on downloads.com. I love Animation Shop, it came with Paint Shop Pro 7 when I bought it. Photoshop also has an animation, Image Ready.

Gifs are easy to make :P you just save them to a gif format. Animated Gifs on the other hand I have no idea about. That's what I want to know because I want to be able to make them too :p

Rye how do you make yours? :P MAKE A TUTORIAL AND WE'LL LOVE YOU!

OMG IMAGE READY CAN MAKE THAT STUFF?? HOW HOW HOW???

I made a tutorial a while ago for blinkies (http://eyesonff.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62904) but for other animated .gifs, I really can't do much besides Puffs (like boris' avatar) and the little Walrus .gifs I made for the BAoTW election and animated icons like...

I find the GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/) is very good at making animated gifs, and for optimising them so their file sizes are small too. You just put each frame of the animation in a different layer, starting with the bottom layer for frame one, then when you choose to save as a gif, tell it to save as an animation rather than flatten the layers. You can also control how it animates from frame to frame e.g. speed by adding certain keywords into the names of each frame.

Are you using Image Ready? I don't really know how to use Image Ready well, I used it once in school, but if it has it, try to use the optimization wizard and select "Transparent." Sorry. :(

I'm using Photoshop and Animation Shop. I downloaded the full version of Animation shop.

http://www.heavenlyhaven.co.uk/skyecreations/lenna/blinkie/lenna.gif
that's how it's turned out ;_;
The transparency is on Photoshop but when I paste it over to Animation Shop it adds those little white px's

Rye

Hmmm... well, in Animation Shop go on optimization wizard, then click Customize then Partial Transparancy then try to put the options like:

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b235/ryeryechu/customizeoptimization.jpg

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b235/ryeryechu/lenna.gif

I fixed your blinkie for you so that it doesn't have the white parts, it's a nice blinkie. :)

EDIT: Also, if that happens when you paste them over the Animation Shop, just erase them with the erase tool at one pixel. I have to do that when I paste them from PSP7 to Animation Shop. :o

Ok I don't have that. I must have a really old version of it.. 3.05. It doesn't have that transparency settings it just says "map identical pixels to transparent"

and when I erase them it erases a huge bit ;o

Edit: ok I fixed it. Thanks Rye ;D <3333333333333333

Same. I tried using Gimp to do it but the previews always showed up weird...thanks cl!

yeah but how do you actually download it. You have to compile it etc and I don't know how to do that :/

Shoeberto

You don't have to compile it, you can just download the Windows version here:
http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html
You have to download both GTK for Windows and The Gimp.

GIMP uses layers too? That's how Image Ready works. Though I much prefer Animation Shop. But in Image Ready there's a player thing at the bottom left usually. And you add layers much like you do in Photoshop. And it animates the layers, each layer is a frame in the animation. Really I suppose the only difference is the frames are lined up vertically instead of horizontally. Animation Shop lays them out horizontal. My preference.

I always felt Image Ready was the best program to use because if you're working with little space you can save the images you'll be using to an optimized file size before you port them to Image Ready. I had to reduce the quality of my avatar in order to make it 2 frames. Don't really notice it that much unless you're comparing it to the original.

Photoshop is always superior with file sizing. PSP7 doesn't let you flip between quality and file size, and Animation Shop does, but badly and very limitedly.

Quite true. But Photoshop does everything better than Paint Shop Pro. But Jasc is trying! Well... I take that back. I have both programs, and I use PSP WAY more than Photoshop. For simple and minor things PSP is so much more user-friendly. And doesn't take nearly as long to load if you just want to open a picture or something. But then again... I have irfan view, which is even better at even more simple and minor things XD

Psp has file optimization. I find it a lot easier to use than photoshop's.

However, photoshop has much nicer dither patterns.

ZeZipster's post makes no sense to me xD

Avatars here can't be more than 6 kb. The original ProzacCat unanimated was 4.55 kb, if you do the math on that 2 frames of 4.55 kb images (they'd be exactly equal sizes, because each frame is the same except for inverse colors) is not under 6 kb . So what I did was I took the original and went File > Save For Web > Hit the little arrow next to the Preset drop box > clicked Optimized To Filesize > and set it to 3 kb and saved it in a folder along with the inverted. Then I imported that folder to frames in ImageReady and happily saved it as a .gif. :D

Image Ready is a pain. xD I've only made one thing with it though, for my iconfiend at LiveJournal.com:

It's still a pain. >.>

Ulead Gif Animator 5 <3

A bit advanced, but once you figure it out, it is, quite frankly, the best gif animator out there. Also lets you save animations as .swf (not that it's any use, but hey, functions!).

Best $129 (AUD) I ever had someone waste on me. ;D
