View Full Version : The next second you…

Live will be relatively shorter than the one before it. Every second that goes by increases the amount of time you have lived and thus the next second will be relatively shorter than the one before. Think of it this way:

A man is 20 years old (exactly): The amount of seconds he has lived can be figured out by these calculations:

20*365 + 5(leap years) = 7305 (days)
7305*24 = 175320 (hours)
175320*60 = 10519200 (minutes)
10519200*60 = 631152000 (seconds)

So the last second had a relative percentage of:

(1/631152000)*100 = 1.584404391*10^-7 %

While the next second after it has

(1/631152001)*100 = 1.584404388*10^-7 %

Which although not significant it is still relatively shorter than the second before it.

To the extremes say a newborn baby, the Second, Second will be half as long as the first.

Could this contribute to patience?

No, that just contributes to math.

But a more generic train of thought along those lines would work.

Duh. Did you only just figure that out?

No :twak: Just pointing it out, it is good food for thought...

Yes... my point, that is why I said "relatively" it is all about perception, you start thinkin that months are somehow shorter and such...

If you fell into a black hole none of that would matter... because, you know, you'd be dead.

Math makes my head explode. All of those numbers confuse me.

But could this contribute to patience? Not sure...

Thanks for that. My life would have been meaningless without that bit of info.

Seconds are too short and transient for that to be a worthwhile comparison. A longer period of time, months of years, would be a more viable base from which to make this claim.

Still, regardless of the math, there's no guarantee that anyone will actually regard anything as longer or shorter than any other period of time in their life. There are many more contributers to perception of time than how much time has passed before.

Yes... but I used seconds instead of minutes, hours, days etc. to say that there is a noticeable difference even with the second, the proportions are the same whether using seconds or minutes etc.
