What was the best year ever in the history of gaming.

Maybe it's partially because of nostalgia, but I think 1990 will never be beaten in sheer number of games of the highest quality.
Let's look at just a few of the games that came out that year;
Megaman 3,
Ninja Gaiden 2
Castlevania 3
Golgo13 2
Lolo
Final Fantasy 1
Super Mario Bros 3
and so on. That was a great year!

Not only for the reasons you listed, but because 1990 was the year in which the SNES was released, albeit only in Japan. That console was home to so many fantastic titles that its release must surely counts one of the finest moments in gaming history.

Good thread, by the way. :)

Oh but you were alive. :mad2:

I'll go ahead and say 2004, because I'm totally new-school like that. Drakengard, Katamari Damacy, Metal Gear Solid 3, Silent Hill 4. Some of my favorite games. My favorite, even, with Drakengard.

Oh but you were alive. :mad2: My body may have existed, but my life did not truly begin until I lay hands on my first videogame controller at the age of six.

I guess that didn't really cover up the fact that I forgot when I was born, huh? xD

And kikimm saves the day once again by smiting the filthy lies spread by you.

I still say 2004. But if my mind was erased or something I would say 1999, purely for Final Fantasy 8.

2004 was a good year. I gamed way back when, but I've only been real into gaming for the past few years, and last year was great. Half-life 2, in particular, makes it great.

I thought Final Fantasy came out in 1986, not 1990.

1987, actually, but it wasn't released in America until 1990. But even if you want to go by Japanese dates, 1990 still rocked because it saw the release of FFIII.

True, and on that same note, 1989 was also a good year. We got Ninja Gaiden 1, Megaman 2.....well, pretty much all of the predecessors to 1990's big hits. I just use the US dates because those are the only ones that matter to me.
Also, that's the year we got Dragon Warrior, and going by Japan dates, that's when DW3 came out as well......which is probably the best DW game right after 4.

2016 is either going to be the best year in gaming or the downfall of mankind. Take your pick!

I can remember back to when I was 1 years of age.Anything else is just a thing of blurs to me.lol.

Anyway I would have to say in the 1990s decade.Beucase games started to evolve and it was a nice transition from the good old side scrollers to the storyline games to the fast and action games to improving sports games controls.

Pretty much everything fit into place in the 90s.

Probably 2004 or 2000. Both had power house line ups all across the board.

WEll in 2000 I started noticing the fanboys thus it kinda started ruining the games i liked becuase they were crap for being on such and such console.

I guess it's one of those games you either love or you hate.

Some people just don't get it.

Anyways, to get back on topic, i pick 2004.

1991. Year of Civilization.
1994. Year of X-Com.
1995. Suikoden in Japan ('96 for US, '97 for Europe.).

But I'd have to say 1995 overall; the PS1 came out then (US and Europe at least.), along with many awesome games (Loaded, Battle Arena Toshinden, Warhawk (OMG SEQUEL!), Twisted Metal, Fade To Black, WipeOut, etc. etc.)
