View Full Version : Cid's Knight for a Day

CK for a Day.

Anyway, I have an idea that might be fun for the staff to play on the members. So here's my idea... Maybe once a week, or perhaps once a month, the staff randomly selects one regular member of the forums, either an unknown, or someone well known, and give them a fake Cid's Knight title for an entire day. The staff does not need to make any announcements, but the members may find it either surprising, or annoying, that the staff had "hired" a new staff member, and then finding out the next day that the member is not a CK.

It's only something fun, and I think it might even give members something to probably look forward to, if they had a Cid's Knight title, despite it being obviously a fake title. It looks like the real thing, but it's obviously not.

So, what about it? I have a feeling the staff may not go with this, but I think it might be fun to pull off if the staff decides to randomly give a random member a fake CK title, maybe once a week or month.

Didn't I do that recently, with them Adminstratars and Crash's Pniyhts? :p

That's not random, because of that "crash for admin" campaign.. This is a once a week or month thing that will last for just one day.

It's not random if you do it weekly or monthly. If you do it at all, it should really be completely random; somebody gets fake-knighted out of the blue. Problem is, putting a thread like this in feedback seems to sort-of kill most of the surprise such a fake-knighting could produce.

I think we should do something on the scale of last March/April :monster: :cookie: :cookie:

Ah hahahahaha some people were pissed off over that :D

I like the idea, and I wouldnt be against it

It wouldn't be very surprising once they read this thread, or once they notice that they're not in the same usergroup as the other CK's on the forum leader's list. :(

Agent Proto

Well, I was considering PMing, but I guess you're right. Making the thread would throw everything off. xD

This would be like impersonating a police office and I don't think that it would be a very good idea.

Unfortunately, I could see some members with a fake title creating quite a bit of havoc with newbies who don't know the difference.

Agent Proto
07-28-2005, 09:26 PM
Well, it'll only last a day, and I don't think most of the members will notice immediately unless someone points it out to them.

But we all know now dont we ?

Agent Proto
07-28-2005, 09:33 PM
Not necessarily if members who venture mostly in the FF forums happen to have a fake CK title for a day get the fake CK title, they probably won't notice and may post only once and that's that...

If a member like Psychotic were to have it, then yeah, it could pose some sort of problem.

I'm not saying the staff should do this, if they don't want to, just very well say so. "Not interested. Thanks for the idea." and let this thread die.

Finally, you can modwhore and the staff can't do anything about it! Then you may actually win an argument with a CK without being banned for flaming or having the thread closed because you beat the system!

Randomly banning members for a day sounds like more fun. Let's start with Proto. :greenie:

Samuraid
07-29-2005, 03:42 AM
If you do it, drop a message in the site staff forum so we can make hourly backups of the forums. :D

(in case something goes wrong and the new CK actually deletes all the forum :rolleyes2)

Loony BoB
07-29-2005, 05:22 PM
Wait, you can ACTUALLY delete all the forum?
Admins can, effectively... anyone with FTP could do fixable damage, but the few of us that are able to run SQL queries (Cid, Samuraid, clout and myself - not sure if anyone else can) could wipe the entire forums database with a single command. But that would just be dumb. The most a CK could do is delete all the threads/posts.

Samuraid
07-29-2005, 08:13 PM
There are a couple other staff members who could theoretically run SQL queries, but they have no reason to do so and are very responsible.

The forums get backed up a few times a week as it is... :)

Strider
07-29-2005, 08:36 PM
How about we rotate Senior Site Staff, Site Staff, Recognized Members and Former Staff as CK's for a day. At least you know we're halfway responsible!

Well, I for one think the point of the fake title should be the fake title. You know, a member goes around flashing his CK title but has no actual CK superpowers.
Such an ugly word. We prefer extortion
The 'ex' makes it sound cool.

A perfect chance to PM everyone saying 'All your base are belong to us'.

Madonna

Obviously, the thing not to do is to instead make a newbie a "Squire" for a day/week and treat them like a sub-mod. Give 'em a forum that no one cares about, like the Heart of Kingdom's Hearty Heartily King's Domain Or Kingdom, and train them how to be a good mod. It's like a test run. PM members to give 'em a few issues to deal with, like a flame argument between two people, inappropriate forum posts (i.e., not family-friendly or just a thread in the wrong forum), and the like.

Of course, I wouldn't expect making any member a Squire (Cid's Squire?); recommendations along with admin approval would be a preferred selection process than picking names out of a list.
