View Full Version : Why Is It So Hard To Find FFIX, When FFVII And FFVIII Are Still Available In GAME??

This has really confused me. Surely VII and VIII would be collector's items by now, but I can find them at my GAME store, a small independant retailer down the road and even brand new at GameStation and HMV. So why is IX so bleepin' hard to find?

Note that I have since had to buy the product off eBay for almost £25.00!

Oh, I guess a more in depth explanation is required…

You see, FFIX was unfortunate enough to be released right before the transition of consoles, and right after FFVIII. Most people were turned of the series after playing FFVIII, because they were pathetic idiot fan boys that had been deprived of there precious Sephiroth, or egotistical jerks that loved the original FF games on an unnatural level, and will put a bullet through there head before they succumb to change. What they didn’t realize was that FFIX was nothing like FFVIII (which I loved anyway) and never found out that FFIX was in fact a master piece. Not sure whether you can factor FF: The Spirits Within into that equation somewhere, but I’m sure that couldn’t have helped the game in terms of popularity. Thus the game never sold that well (Compared to FFVII and FFVIII anyway) so I'm not surprised that stores are less likely to stock it.

.: People are idiots.

Thanks. And blimey!

That's why Square's been lagging between IX and XI: The movie they spent £200,000,000 on and nobody watched (Worldwide wise, I'll wager at least a million people saw it but that's miniscule, next to nothing. Thus, nobody really saw it…)!

This also explains the substandard, "budget" games after IX. Square Enix had to redeem themselves and decided to get totally cut back by having most of the FMVs dropped in X-2!

And thus malproduction of IX resulted from the budget cutbacks, and pre-movie copies of VII and VIII were already circulating around new and used game stores by then. This is why eBay's your best bet for IX, i suppose… :(

Must be a UK thing. It's a pretty common find here in used game stores.

I know what you mean, here where I live, its nearly impossible to find. That's why we have www.amazon.com to help us out.

Well as I've said my second copy is coming via eBay (The amazon.co.uk ones were all NTSC :( ) and will arrive on Tuesday. Chances are most FF enthusiasts where I live (the Isle of Wight, UK) will have to order theirs via similar means… They should manufacture more over here, I mean they're still selling [factory wrapped] Dreamcast games in French supermarkets for god's sake!

It's easy for me to find FFIX, what I can't find anywhere is FF VII, it just depends on your location.

FFIX was difficult in general, most people dont have it, and I know what you mean, its very difficult to find
I would never expect to find is brand spanking new, but at least second hand somewhere, but maybe people had sense and kept it :p
I mean, this Board has only 600+ threads while others has 1000+

Surely VII and VIII would be collector's items by now, but I can find them at my GAME store.

OMG, OMG, OMG. PLEASE tell me where!

I didn't have this problem. It was the first one I bought and I found it accidentally while looking for something else. But yeah, it's uncommon.

I could find these games on the Isle Of Wight's GAME branch in Newport high street. New. They have since disappeared, as the store has finally caved in to the pressure of Next-Gen, and thus removed the massive PsOne sign :(

There are loads of copies of these in the "Pre-Owned" section of the store as well. These sell for around £7.99.

eBay's a better outlet though. I got my second FFIX off them last Tuesday for £20.00, which sucks but I suppose it's better than paying for an NTSC version and having to have my PS2 chipped :rolleyes2
