Why Was FFXI Not Released on the PS2 in UK ?

errrrmmm its Final Fantasy, lotz people would of got it. It was all over magazines, there was so much hype, then they announced that it would be released on the PC, why, there much more FF fans on the Console systems. Do they want UK feel like crap, WE NEVER GET ANYTHING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And yet the game was on PS2 in America

Most people with PS2's who are FF fans would rather play it on a pc than going to the bother of buying the cables to enable there PS2's to function online. Majority FFXI players play on PC and only a minority of the japanese and american players play on there PS2's because it makes playing the game more inconvienient when it comes to entering text. The UK has less FF players than both of the other countries I mentioned and going to the bother of releasing it on PS2 when hardly anyone would play it would be a loss for Square Enix so they did the logical thing and didnt release it. You can still play it on the more popular and easier/better format so quit the whining.

Yeah pretty much releasing the PS2 version in the UK a place with less FF players is a bad move since they had more sales on the PC format.

Also a lot of japaneese software companies release more games in japan than any other country..lol.Its there given right to release games thats gonna give them to most sales which = profit. I dont actually hate my Mac, it rocks for everything except for Games and ROMS, and its alot faster than my Windows XP that I dont own anymore

If you're that bothered then you can (easier than myself I imagine) get your PS2 chipped in a pc world or some place along those lines.

9/10 times we'll get the better RPG's around like Star Ocean 3 and Tales of Symphonia. The both sold fairly well over here and its likely theyll continue selling the series here with each new installment. Theres Baten Kaitos and Shadow Hearts around here. As well as .hack// and Xenosaga II is set for a release here also which will probably start the release of the Xeno series in Europe. Games get released later here? Yeah sure they have to be translated into several languages after all but we often get added features to our games. All in all we dont have it that bad.

Just so you know, Gibbi, the PS2 version of FFXI sold so little here in the states that they took it off the shelves. In order to play it, you had to buy the $99 bundle that came with a hard drive, then you had to pay the monthly fee. Most people didn't think it was worth it.

MMORPGs are designed for the PC. Limitations on the consoles make it a bad venue for games of that sort.

You guys are all incorrect...

The only reason why they did not put the PS2 version over to the UK was because the newer slimmer PS2s did not support the HDD. The Slim PS2s replaced all the fat older ones before it was ready to be shipped to EU. Therefore there was no reason to put more support to the PS2 in EU when the slim PS2s do not support the HDD required to play it. It was planned i heard, but because of Sony's bright idea, it was scrapped. If you can ever find a fat PS2 and NTSC style, you can order an North American version from SE's official site that branches off elsewhere.

FFXI PROMOTES CROSSPLATFORM. They did not release the PS2 one in UK because it was pointless to do so. The same reason it was discontinued here was because of slim PS2s that did not support the required hardware.

The Japanese players play almost exclusively on the PS2, so while everyone else might play on PCs more, Japanese people, the majority by far play on PS2. To ignore PS2 entirely is the most stupidest move ever as a huge part of their playerbase use the PS2. However to get PS2 expansions and etc, you have to order online in SE's links/directories at their website.

Chocobo Racing was released in America, I played it about a year after it came out and decided I didn't really want to buy it after all.

As one of the 5 Americans who plays FFXI on the PS2, I can definitely say I like the game a lot and have fun playing it. That said, it was obviously developed with the PC in mind. Trust me, you're not missing out. The PS2 version was watered down and still runs at a choppy rate.

The funny thing is most people seem to think 32 bit systems produce worse graphics than 128 bit systems. :D

None of those games have slightly impressive gameplay as I understand it. If you're getting a windows laptop (I think you mentioned something about that in a post in this thread, maybe Im wrong) then you'll be able to play Chrono Trigger soon enough and if you're that bothered to play Chrono Cross chipping a PS2 or an old PS1. It'll work better than moaning over nothing online.

I dont mind Cutscenes, but I dont want to watch 3-4hrs of them in a row, I'd rather progress and have fun with the game..What possesed Namco that Releasing Xenosaga II was a good idea..

Because console manufacturers hate you. That's basically what it boils down to. They want money more than loyalty. They don't want you playing games from another country because it might hurt the sales of the game if they ever bring it out. It's bull, really, but that's their reasoning. It's also the reason why many gamers have never played some of the most amazing games ever created.
