I want this game more than FFXII....

Thoughts ?

I'm highly anticipating it, yes. It looks like a worthy successor to ICO, which is one of the best games there is.

I don't know. An entire game of only boss battles? I want to see more first.

The scope and overall look of the game is absolutely amazing. If they make it control well, have a solid framerate, and be of a decent length, it could be one of the most impressive games I've ever seen.

It looks spectacular and I played ICO and it was awesome so I'm sure this'll rock too. So far it seems near perfect it might be repetitive and maybe short *shrugs* maybe but I'm more than excited. I get a demo and review of it in Offical Playstation Magazine #97 I think. So I'll find out if its good or not soon enough.

I just hope the makers of the game get more noticed, ICO was one of the best games ive ever played, but it did so little in terms of people buying it, It barely made it into the charts. This thought scared me into thinking that this wouldnt come to UK, it is thankfully. And I hope it really makes the makers stand out of the crowd....

Kawaii Ryűkishi

It's guaranteed to sell better than ICO did because
it's getting better press than ICO did, and
in all likelihood, its cover art won't be nearly as offensive as ICO's American art was.

Dreddz

What Was so offending with the cover art of the American Version, just some boy holding a stick..

Kawaii Ryűkishi
08-14-2005, 07:48 PM
The fact that Ico resembles a poorly-rendered Down syndrome sufferer wearing fake horns probably has something to do with it. And it looks even worse when compared to the original Chirico-esque artwork, which is incredibly beautiful and poignant. All in all, it's regarded as one of the worst covers ever, right down there with the American Mega Man art.

Funny, The Cover art to the European Ico was beautiful....

Kawaii Ryűkishi

That's because it used the same artwork the Japanese version did.

I didn't like the box either and the Japanese always get the better covers xD The only reason my brother hates ICO is because it sounds stupid on the back "Solve the puzzles and join the tormented souls forever" which does sound pretty stupid imo but no reason to hate the game. I know he would hate it if he played because aside from Tetris he hates any and every kind of puzzle game but still thats moronic (thats a word right? xD) and it is getting alot more press than ICO I'm hoping it gets the publicity it deserves. Does anybody have a link that can show me the Japanese/European cover art?

Pfft, I'm anticipating so many games over FFXII.

I don't know. An entire game of only boss battles? I want to see more first.
It's not entirely boss battles. You explore, do puzzles, and there will also be some elements from platformers. The boss battles themselves are supposed to be amazing. Each boss has different weaknesses and strengths. It won't be like most boss battles where you can hack your way through them. This is from the creators of Ico. Have more faith.

Kawaii Ryűkishi

I know he would hate it if he played because aside from Tetris he hates any and every kind of puzzle gameICO has very few parts that could justifiably be called puzzles. It's almost completely straight-up platforming.
Does anybody have a link that can show me the Japanese/European cover art? Here (http://norbert-x.com/rock/userfiles/Kishi/icofront.jpg). And for comparison, here (http://www.abcgallery.com/C/chirico/chirico.html)'s some of Giorgio de Chirico's artwork.

Thanks this computer is being stupid so I'll look at it later and you're right about the platforming but I found quite a bit of puzzles myself but I haven't played it in a long while and I have a bad memory so I may be wrong. My brother wouldn't try it no matter what xD he also hates it because Ico says "oompa" like a Oompa Loompa xD Thats really dumb :rolleyes2

Dreddz

Your brother is generally dumb for disliking ICO

Ryth

I'm really looking forward to the game.

Of course, i have my concerns (like how theres NO enemies except bosses), but I'm sure they will go away once i finally play it.

Anybody know of a release date yet?

ICO was a beautiful game and is one of my favorite games of all time. I can't wait to see what the producers pull off this time. The screenshots I've seen of the game look absolutely gorgeous and the gameplay, while non-traditional sounds interesting. I can't wait for October 18th.

What? What's wrong with this?

It only looks like a 50 year old male battling for the future of techno Hawaii with his trusty .45!

And what's wrong with the cover of Mega Man 2?

Our 50 year old hero is back in action to save Santa from boomerang head guy and drill dude!

Now here is where it gets better.

A prequel to the original Mega Man and Mega Man 2, Mega Man 3 chronicles the adventure of our 50 year old hero when he was still in 4th grade...and had a robot crotch shooting fetish!

Oh, and Shadow of the Colossus should be pretty cool.

I realize this thread is probably long dead, but I'm gonna bump it back to life instead of making a new one, since this one IS here (albiet far off topic ^_^) But now that the Official Playstation Magazine released E3's demo of SotC I figure it's worth talking about. Though there are a bit of framerate problems and visual pop-ups, the look, sound, and general feel is like a really vast Ico. And the demo is 3 months old, and they've been working on it almost the whole time, so the final release won't have probably any of these problems (hopefully).

Anyway, I am in just pure awe simply riding across the vastness of the valley you start in. Kinda like riding Epona across Hyrule. Except... indescribably more-so. I would highly suggest anyone get this game just to ride/walk/climb around and SEE everything. It's that beautiful. Ico was the same way. Everytime I cleared an area I had to stare at the next one for a bit in disbeliefe and awe and wonder.

Yes. I am in love. Cannot wait.

Ico was named after the main character. The main character in this game is not called Nico :D From what I've gathered he doesn't have a name. He's called Wanderer, which somehow was interpreted by American audiences as "Wanda". Hence the "Wanda and the Colossus" thing, and why they changed it so people would stop calling it that.

Hence the "Wanda and the Colossus" thing, and why they changed it so people would stop calling it that. The title of the game is indeed "Wanda and the Colossus" in Japan. It was changed because English-speaking people would naturally recognize Wanda as a girl's name, which would be awkward. However, the intended interpretation of Wanda's name is "wander," in reference to the vast game world and the incredible amount of travel, exploration, and discovery therin. It's still spelled Wanda, though. That's the thing of it.

Wanda apparently doesn't have an official name outside Japan, but the localization manager personally refers to him as "The Wanderer," and the fans have naturally followed suit.

I'm a little dissapointed by the cover art:

https://www.videogamesplus.ca/images/ps2_shadow_otc.jpg

I was hoping for more of that kind of art style used on the Jap. Ico cover. Of course, they had to make it all appealing for us Americans. It's sort of cool and all, but I wanted it to be more....mystical.
