eyeopener still is, after so many years, the best song ever.

I have a couple of hour long sets that I enjoy listening to, one from Luna C in san fran, and the other by a DJ D-minus.

In a word I despise that kind of music. I don't like the structure, I don't like the sheer noise, I don't like the way it constantly plagerisies other peoples work, I don't like the lifestyle associated with it, generally don't like people who put it as their favourite genre of music, and I wish I didn't have to put up with it.

it doesn't have anything to do with trance except they're all subgenres of the same thing.

i like the genre, but then again i like a lot of different music. i cant name names of any trace/techno artists though.

That's because the people that make techno music are all DJs, not artists.

I like it but Trance is the better of the 2

it's not that I don't respect this music... I just get sick when I think about techno or trance. I know alot of people that love this music, but I just don't like that it's not really coming from feeling like music from a true rock or blues artist or a guy like mozart.

I say this because when you're playing an intrument and you know what you're doing you can sort of feel what you're playing; a sort of warmth that resides somewhere in the chest area. In techno it's more like... a math equation.

Plus I don't even know if it's possible to write it out in musical notation. In my mind it would look like a purcussion piece.

And it doesn't really seem that fun to dance to. Maybe if you liked doing the robot or something. :)

Michael Sandison and Marcus Eoin (Boards of Canada) are very much artists, but what they create isn't exactly techno.

I think Darren Tate is my favourite DJ atm. I'm listening to "Elevation" as I type this. I like it. Like, a lot.

theres people who make Techno who are music Artists

William Orbit remixed Samuel Barber's Adagio for strings into an amazing Trance theme he didn't ruin the feeling of the piece of music unlike DJ Tiesto

to be fair anyone here could have accomplished the same thing orbit did with that song if they have something that can change a MIDI around a bit and export as an mp3

Dudius: i find that feeling is also missing when listening to theory of a nickeldeadback man, and they use real instruments (i think). it's more along the lines of whether or not a song/artist is good more than based on genre. there's classical music that's pretty much a percussion piece also. knock knock, whos' there, knock cknock, who's there, knock knock, whoe's there, phillip glass.

anyway

new Boards of Canada soon eest 8-)

Daft Punk is the only group of that gendre that I listen too. They sound so kooky and original....I love em. Plus their videos are awesome too. :)

At least Orbit made some good music and didn't butcher the song.

i hate all the DJ w/e artists and stuff can't they just give themselves a decent name?
can they make music without butchering the original version?

IMO Trance and Dance are alot better than techno

Trance is like a Rhythmic theme that goes on for a few minutes the theme changes speed and moods alot while dance is very well done music that is quite fast at times but usually excellent. Techno is just rap and dance together

I really like DJ Shadow. He hardly fits the stereotype of what techno is.

I tried listening to stuff like Aphex Twin and Boards of Canada, but it was too soft for me. Without a good beat driving a song, it's hard to put up with the repetition.

DJ Shadow is pretty good.

BoC are so awesome though, they don't need beats because their songs are so awesome. Autechre has more beats. Some of their albums are awesome, like Amber, Tri Repetae, and Chiastic Slide.

oh man aphex dows some crazy drill n bass

http://www.sputnik7.com/vod/vodartist.jsp?section=music&key=ctdd

it's not always a proper beat but it's definitely a driving beat aka so fast you can't help but follow

you would also like Amon Tobin (he did an ost for a splinter cell game recently), he's got some nice instrumental hip hoppy stuff too back in some younger cd's

also in a very similar vein as DJ Shadow, this new guy from ninjatune popped up recently (altho apparently he's been mixing stuff for people under a real name), Blockhead, might have mentioned it before.

I've only listened to a little bit of Amon Tobin, but what I have listened to is amazing.

I haven't found much of Blockhead, but that video you linked to was pretty good, so I'll keep an eye out.
