I can't get the damn river chocobo!!!

I've got the female good chocobo and i've got the male great chocobo and i give them the carob nut when i mate them, but everytime i mate them the new born chocobo is just a odnairy chocobo. I've done this 10 times :(. Please tell me if i'm doing something wrong.

I'm having the same problem. I always get ordinary chocobos or Mountain chocobos.

The higher the rank your parents are, the better chances they will have a mountain or river chocobo. A pair that can produce a mountain chocobo can also produce a river chocobo.

Don't forget to give feed them greens.

they dont have to be class S they have to be at least B but i always get them to A.

I had to get my chocbos to class A before i even THOUGHT of getting any special chocobos. The racing of chocbos gets annoying once u go through F-A sixtimes to get that golden chocobo. But it was worth it I suppose. Are you SURE both parents can make either chocobo? Cuz the Sage himself told me my info...

Absolutley. I've produced both mountain and river chocobos from the same breeding pair. One type seemed to be rarer, which may explain the common belief that the sex of the great and good parents determine which type of offspring you'll get.

Also, it depends on what part of disk two you're on.

Earlier parts lower the percentage of chance by which you can obtain a green/blue/black/gold chocobo through breeding.

If you've just gotten Cloud back on your team, you'll probably have a hard time getting anything. Unfortunately, the only time the percentage skyrockets is on disk 3 when you pretty much don't need any of them anymore.

If you're past the sub, you're chances are still fairly weak. Past the rocket, I'd say 38%. Past City of the Ancients . . . probably 50-50. Past Diamond, I think 70%.

Me too, ive tried both combos, male great/female good and vice versa but i keep gettign those damn mountain chocobos. :mad2:

I confirm: there is NO need to have opposite sex parents. The same 2 chocobos can breed the blue and the green one. And with a little luck, they'll be opposite sexes.
And yes, it's better to race them as far as you can. If they cannot win, give them greens.Simple and clean.

Of course if you have the Gil (say, by selling an All materia), you can rent all the stall spaces, capture two breeding pairs and breed the mountain and river chocobos from separate parents. Saves time but not money.
