Has anyone seen the Stay Safe on Road advert ?
I just saw it now and I am dumb founded for words..
For you people in America, it involves a video clip taken on someones phone. There are kids joking around ( doing some dance moves ) on the street. Then, you see some boy running on the road. Then, well its pretty obvious, he gets hit by a car. But the fact that this is real video and not stunted, and the fact that the car looking like it was going 50 or so m/ph was what shocked me. And after, you hear all the people crying and screaming was not nice. And this was played at 6.30 which I think is also wrong.

Thoughts ?

Sounds like a great idea. People do get run over, and I think this has more effect than if it was two fluffy bunnies running eachother over with bumper cars.

That advert is disturbing, but it will make me think about driving 40mph when I start driving.

It just makes me laugh all these adverts. Not just the gore, but the fact that they exist.

The fact that we live in a society, where you actually have to be told "Hey guyz, don't dick around in the middle of the road, okay?!".

I dont think there worse than these
Th child by the tree one ( with her bones placing back into place ) wasnt that bad
A bit different one, but made by the same people, was the one where there men at the pub. And some women crashes into there table like it was there car, that had a powerful impact.

Ohhh
08-23-2005, 09:57 PM
yup there definetely disturbing but at least they actully work and make you think omfg lets drive at 10mph all the time and not go within 1metre of a road without checking if its safe!!!

I saw a few of those on Tarrant On TV. Pretty shocking.

The phone clip one was great, in that there's a good chance more people will take notice of road safety. And it needs to be shown early, better kids learn young what happens when you mess about rather than learning later after being in an accident themselves.

I thought that one was really well executed. I don't think I've seen the one gibbi is referring to though

it won't work. shock ads never work. people see them. they are shocked. but it doesn't leave a lasting imprint. noone thinks "now remember what that ad told you about smoking/roads/drinking/drugs".

or the new zealand ones. The one you described Gibbi8 is pretty mild compared to the new zealand drive safe/drink drive ads. Although they have mellowed out over the years. A few years back it was like a 30sec-1 min horror movie during the ads. They actually kind of freaked me out.

True really. The advert will actually more likely simply become trivial conversation between shocked drivers and worried pedestrians. The only way to remotely get some impact is if someone sees a shocking accident with their own eyes in their own life, and it goes without saying that this can't be arranged beforehand :p

And I finally saw the advert the other day. Shocking - yes, BUT I have an extremely strong feeling that it's edited in some way. If that footage is 100% unadulterated then, well...that's just off the scale.

Quite frankly with the society we live in, I don't see how someone could find that shocking.

We've got stuff like GTA, Predator, readily available porn (a.k.a the internet). Come on, do you really think after half an hour of beheading people on Manhunt, THIS is going to shock me?

jrgen

I don't see how someone could find that shocking.
Well, the fact that it's real makes it slightly different from GTA.

Yeah, that's a lot worse.

Unfortunately, when young people are told "Don't do it", it will make them go at it even more.
Such idiots we are.
I'd give you the name of this girl who was hit by a drunken driver and burned alive in her car, but I want to warn you before because THAT is shocking. Seeing how she survived and how she is now.
I saw her pictures for the first time while I was having breakfast. Good thing I'm not that squeamish.

Are you suggesting "Drive over children with your car, it's fun!" advertisements?

No. But some advertisement campaign creators try to make their messages be more like "Not drinking and driving is smart" rather than "Don't drink and drive", thinking that will perhaps work somehow better.
