I've always thought Michael Owen was rather overrated, and it would seem that the top clubs agree with me. If he was really one of the best strikers in the world he would have made it at Real Madrid instead of languishing on the bench all season. Besides, according to this morning's news Real and Newcastle have agreed a fee, so if that's true then this whole saga can be over and done with.

Souness is a god damn idiot, he moves into a club, buys a load of crap, and then leaves when they're in debt and the whole thing goes to . He can't manage to save his life, hence Newcastle finishing in 14th place last season despite having one of the best teams in the league. Michael Owne would be better off staying at Madrid, and as far as I knew Liverpool were going to make a bid to bring him back anyway?

Whoever. I don't care that much about Owen, when he's on he's on and when he's off he sucks, but I just wanted to rant about Souness because he's an almighty tit.

Third best striker in the world? Sorry, but I disagree with you SO much... There're at least 10 better than him. Well, that's only my opinion anyway, so please don't feel offended.

I always considered Owen to be...a spoiled brat. He was overrated since he was, what, 16? No one can keep a level of quality when the pressure comes from so much time...

Owen won't have much of a chance in Madrid from now on, anyway... Robinho's coming to it. (and if you don't know him by now...you will soon enough) :D

Fine maybe 3rd best was exagerating but hes still amazing. I think hes a lot better than robino. Its the pace and the agility he can dance around defenders.

Sure, and I respect your opinion silverpigeon97, but maybe I'm overestimating Robinho because I live in Brazil and see him playing at least once a week. I don't watch Owen playing often, but the same applies to you, because you've only seen Robinho playing for Brazil, not for Santos, I think. Again, I'm not trying to offend anyone.

dont worry say what you want i dont give a , honestly do. But if you see Owen play at his best he is simply amazing. He can outpace anyone in the game, has a good shot and a good header. The fact that he scores a game n most games proves how good he is.

He's a good player but he's been spoilt. Like Rooney IMO. If he's so desperate why doesn't he accept the offers?

Schoden i hate to tell you this, but Newcastle arent that good. Theyve got Dyer, shearer- a bit past his prime, and now owen. Thats all

And it's all because of the authorities.

they were a top 5 team 2 seasons back.

Ok everyone, Michael Owen has not joined Newcastle at the time of posting this, and in my opinion, he will not sign a permanent deal with them for all the reasons people have stated about Newcastle above.

They lack success, ambition and a good manager. Owen needs to be involved in football at its highest level because he IS a world class striker.

Sure he may be overrated, but who can honestly say there is a striker in the world that isn't overrated to some extent, by some factions, somewhere.

Owen has the quality to succeed at Madrid, his goalscoring tally showed that. He was better than Raul last season, and eventually forced Luxemburgo to start him at the expense of Figo. Lets face it, you can't drop Ronaldo, the greatest striker in the world for me, and Raul, club captain and favourite son of the Bernabeu are unlikely to be dropped for a man who lacks the assertive qualities to demand to be played.

Now the poor bloke has no chance at Real Madrid, not because of the quality of the players signed, I still believe he is the 2nd best striker on Madrid's books (counting Robinho as an offensive midfielder), it is the nationality of the players signed. Wanderley Luxembergo is doing what many foreign managers do. Wenger did it, Benitez is doing it, Houllier did it etc, he is surrounding himself with his countrymen and that makes it difficult, sadly, for an Englishman to oust 3 Brazilians and Raul.

I believe that Michael Owen is in the top 10 strikers in the world. His goal record proves it. In the Premiership, he was second only to Thierry Henry in my opinion. Rafael Benitez needs his god damn head examined. That's coming from a Liverpool fan. Why spend £7 million on Crouch, when you could have Michael Owen for a little bit more. He is guaranteed 20 goals at least, and there aren't many strikers in the Premiership at the moment that can boast that.

Wenger needs his head examined. Arsenal don't know what a tap in is! Owen would score tons of goals with the kind of service Arsenal's intricate plays provide. They lack a natrual goalscorer.

Mourinho plays a formation that probably wouldn't suit Owen and Ferguson has enough good strikers already.

I know this rant has become a little disjointed but I feel so angry for Michael Owen that he is in this situation. I would love nothing more for him to come back to Anfield and start showing these wannabes how to score a fricking goal.

NEWCASTLE United today announced they had agreed a club record transfer fee with Real Madrid for striker Michael Owen.

The Magpies have met the asking price and conditions of the La Liga giants for the England international, and it is now up to the player and his advisor to respond.

A club statement issued to nufc.co.uk read: "Newcastle United have met Real Madrid's asking price and conditions.

"The agreed fee will be a record transfer fee for Newcastle United.

"It is now up to the player and his advisor."

Liverpool wont pay more han 8m and Owen will have to have a big pay cut to go to Liverpool.

No offense for what i said if you took it personally.

Sure we're close but I know theres still doubts.

Anyway any smart person would know Souness hasn't helped the team much.

(i edited the last post a bit)

I'm getting my Dad to put in my bet for Souness going, he goes hello PSP

Owen is only going to play for Newcastle on a loan deal, because they're too crap for him to want to sign permanently (Remember, he left Liverpool looking for success, and I think even Charlton have more chance of winning some silverware than Newcastle). Liverpool won't buy him, but we sure as hell need him, unless Cisse finally gets his act together and becomes the player he was at Auxerre again.

Newcastle aren't the crappest team you know XD.

Liverpool don't need Owen, Newcastle lack a strike force and good management.

Come on Souness go! for the sake of my future PSP go!

actually if you think about it why would Newcastle bid a record £15m for a loan?

makes no sense to me.

Psychotic
08-25-2005, 12:21 AM
Indeed they aren't, but the fact is if Owen thought Liverpool were beneath him, after winning 5 different trophies with them, what chance do Newcastle have if they haven't won a trophy for over 50 years?

Liverpool need Owen and Newcastle need Owen, imho.

They aren't bidding for a loan. They're bidding to sign him. But Owen himself only wants to play there on loan unless Liverpool want him. He made a statement saying something like "I would really like to go to Liverpool, but if no agreemeent is reached then I will go on loan to Newcastle for a year". If your bet for the PSP includes loans, the PSP is yours.

Liverpool aren't really in need of another striker, just luck they're an excellent team as it is.

Newcastle just need the right ingredients to get moving. 1. Owen. 2. better manager

Seriously We were better off with Sir Bobby Robson, Souness just ditched most of the good players.

IMO Kluivert deserved to stay

Huh? I'm agreeing with Shoden. Maybe it was the fact the sentence made sense or maybe I'm going mad, but he has a point.

We don't need another striker in terms of the amount we have, unfortunately, I can't look past Morientes and Cisse, for strikers of the required quality.

Their places are guaranteed right now, whether they score goals or not. We need Michael Owen, because he doesn't have to be on form to score goals, he doesn't need a cuddle to score goals, he doesn't need an invitation to score goals. He is a predator, better than any striker on our books right now by a mile.

Unfortunately it looks as though we won't sign him because of the RIDICULOUS money Souness has bidded on him. Madrid were willing to part with him for £12 million and monkey boy at Newcastle bids £17 million. I bet he'll even have the gall to moan about the inflated prices of English players when he takes over at Dagenham and Redbridge next month.

I hate Souness.

I like him personally, one less challenger for the title now he ruined Newcastle!

IMO Owen will stay at Madrid for now, and join Liverpool in the summer once Benitez realises that Pongolle, Mellor, Crouch and Cisse are all .

Morientes on form and Owen would be one of the best strike partnerships in Europe.

Doc Sark

Cisse isn't . It's not his fault Benitez keeps playing him on the wing and then refusing to reassure him over his future.

In fact none of the strikers in our team are , but Mellor, Pongolle and Crouch would certainly be better off at a smaller club. They aren't good enough for Liverpool.

Owen will come home to liverpool

Trust me.
Cisse is a class striker frances top scorer twice in a row, international starlet and hardbringer of doom during pre season, two games is nothing to judge him on.

Psychotic
08-25-2005, 08:30 PM
Mellor isn't that bad. He had a higher rate of goals-per-game than the likes of Baros and Gerrard, although he didn't play a lot due to injury, but he still has potential.

Pongolle also has potential, but I'd have preferred it if we sent him out on loan and kept Le Tallec instead.

As for Crouch, I'll wait to see how he performs this season before I decide if he is Liverpool standard.

Doc Sark

Subject to a medical he is there.

This is possibly the biggest waste of a talent since Shearer joined Newcastle. Newcastle had better build a good team around Michael Owen, starting with sorting their defence out and changing their manager. If Michael Owen isn't playing at the highest level every year, his immense goalscoring talent will be wasted in the same way that Shearer's has been. Let's face it, Newcastle are incapable of playing at the highest level as their last Champions League outing proved.

Newcastle have a lot to answer for with the signing of Michael Owen, as the money they have paid for him is way over the money he was originally up for sale at. In some ways it's a clever Chelsea-esque move. Newcastle offered such a ridiculous amount, that Madrid were never going to accept any other offers, but Michael Owen has walked in to a large area of quicksand as far as I'm concerned, and I hope to God a side with actual European pedigree comes in and activates the release clause he blatantly has in his contract.

Owen deserves better than to be involved in a relegation scrap, even a mid-table scrap. Well done Souness, well done Newcastle, between manager, chairman and club, they will succeed in ruining the career of another of Englands bright young stars.

As the old saying here in Sheilds is: Sheaperd is a rich and grumpy old man.

He aint the best with sense but he has money so you'l have to be richer than glazer to buy that old gadgy out. Souness just fucked the team up. Newcastle may not be the best team in the world but they don't deserve idiots like Souness.
