Camera moves through clouds down towards Planet. Red and two younger kids are runing through a canyon accompanied by Cosmo Canyon's theme. They jump up a mountain face. They look over the cliff, and Red nods to his child on his left and then looks up towards Midgar and roars. Birds fly over head and camera zooms out on Midgar. It's completely natural now, but there is smoke off in the distance. FF7 Logo appears>

<Children laughing, screen is black

this cut scene is placed 5 years after the game ending with killing sephiroth.....

AC: is suppost to be 2 years after the game..... so is it after this cut scene which would make it 7 years after the game....or is it two years after the killing of sephiroth... confused....im not sure if im making since....

I think its 2 years after Sephiroth was defeated.

Meaning that it takes place 3 years before that cutscene with Nanaki and the cubs.

Actually the cut scene is when Red goes and gets two Junior Rangers from Cosmo Canyon and they are off on a magical adventure to revive Aeris. And that's the real plot behind AC. :chef:

The final scene takes place 500 years after FFVII, suggesting that it takes place 498 years after Advent Children. As to the significance of the scene, FFVII's very ambiguous ending required some sort of definite conclusion. While the scene, taking place so long after the game, leaves much unanswered, it does point to the fact that Gaia survived. Given that Bugenhagen doubted the survival of the Planet regardless of Cloud and company's actions...

Bugenhagen: Ho Ho Hoooo. No Nanaki. You can't stand on your own yet. To do that
now would destroy you in the long run. Reaching up into the
heavens, threatening to snatch the very stars from the great city of Midgar. You
seen it, haven't you? Well, that's a bad example. Looking up too much makes you
lose perspective. When it's time for this planet to die, you'll understand that
you know absolutely nothing.

Cloud: ......When the planet dies?

Bugenhagen: Ho Ho Hoooo. It may be tomorrow, or 100 years from now... But it's
not long off.

Later, after the battle with Gi Nattak and the revelation of Seto's true actions...

Bugenhagen: Listen, Nanaki. Cloud says they are trying to save the planet.
Honestly, I don't think it can be done. For even if they stop every reactor on
the planet, it's only going to postpone the inevitable. Even if they stop
Sephiroth, everything will perish. But, Nanaki. I've been thinking lately. I've
been thinking if there was anything WE could do, as a part of the planet,
something to help a planet already in misery... No matter what happens, isn't it
important to try? Am I just wishing against fate? I am too old to do something
about it... This year, you must go with them! For my sake.

...this aspect of the ending ultimately confirmed the success of the party's efforts to save Gaia, even if their own eventual fates remain unknown to the gamer.

I finished the game the other day and I can say for sure that it's placed 500 years after the fall of Meteor.
That means Nanaki is going to live really a long life, that there ARE more of his kind around (hope we'll get to see them in this or that sequel...) and that Midgar will never be rebuilt no matter what. I wonder if Vincent will still be around... ¬.¬

how do we know for sure that it actually is Nanaki? the ending is for imagination only. make your own sequel, haha. it's not suppoed to say anything FOR SURE, but just gives an idea to what the world is like 500 years in the future?

Forgive me if I'm wrong, its been a while since I saw this scene. But I'm pretty sure he had the XIII on him. Probably the scar too. Like I said. I can't be positive. But I don't recall seeing anything that made me question whether or not it was him.

they never said he was the last of his kinds only Hojo said that out of estimation.

Vincent most likely still be around he doesn't age.

On his deathbed, Bugenhagen obliquely suggests that Red XIII may not be the last member of his species.

Bugenhagen: It's a wide world and you must go out and see it... You may even find your life's mate. You never know.

The obvious implication, then, is that Red XIII did find his "life's mate."

Did Nanaki have a mom? Maybe they reproduce through asexual means.

Or they're little clones

Actually, the game states fairly clearly that Red did have a mother. During the party's first visit to Cosmo Canyon, Red makes clear that his esteem for his mother does not extend to his father.

Red XIII: ...Long ago. ...When I was still very small. We were all around this
flame... No, never mind...

Cloud: What happened?

Red XIII: It's about my parents. When I talk about my mother, I am full of pride
and joy... And that's fine. ...But when I remember my father, my heart is full
of anger...

Bugenhagen: ...You really can't forgive your father...?

Red XIII: Of course. He...... left mother for dead. When the Gi tribe attacked,
he ran off by himself, leaving mother and the people of the Canyon!

Later, after defeating Gi Nattak...

Red XIII: ...That's... That's...... Seto...?

Bugenhagen: Seto continued to fight the Gi tribe here. ...To protect this
Canyon.
Even after the Gi's poisonous arrows turned his body to stone...... Even after
they all ran away... Seto, continues to protect us. And he continues to protect
us, even now.

Red XIII: Even now...

Bugenhagen: You thought that he was a coward and ran away. But he, alone risked
his life to protect Cosmo Canyon. That is your father, Seto.

Red XIII: That...... that is Seto? ...!? Did mother know?

Bugenhagen: Ho Ho Hoooo... She knew. The two of them made me promise to keep
this cave shut. They asked me to seal it myself and not to tell a soul. They
said we should forget about this case.

Red XIII: .........

Based on this, we can only conclude that Red's species reproduces sexually, and that Red did find another member of that species.

Uh as for the fact that red 13 was the only of his species left, I think the whole concept was left open ended, and anyway. For there to have been those cubs (or whatever) with him, he couldnt be the only one left. Thus maybe more will be shown in AC, as I know for a fact he is in it.

KoShiatar

We can clearly see the tattos Hojo gave him, so yes, that one's Nanaki for sure.
They were a mark of humiliation for him (or so I believe) so I doubt any of his descendants is ever going to get anything similar.

It kind of sucks i wanted cloud to survive forever. It's just kind of dead that every charcater just died and Red is the only one left of his friends. I wanted cloud to live forever because of the Jenova Cells in his body. I want the ff7 to survive. It's sad really though.

I wanted to see Cloud die a horrible death and be reincarnated as Zack who is cooler by default and reminds me slightly of myself.

Cloud: dead, has great-great-great-great-great-great grandchild successor.
Tifa: dead, has great-great-great-great-great-great grandchild successor.
Barret: dead.
Yuffie: dead, has great-great-great-great-great grandchild successor.
Reeve: dead.
Vincent: "I'm a survivor."
Cid: dead.
Shera: dead.
Marlene: dead, has great-great-great-great grandchild successor.

:rolleyes2

The obvious implication when Bugenhagen's voice trails off and his hand goes limp is that he died. When Red addresses the party by the Cosmo Candle, his speech seems frantic, hurried, even uncontrolled. Obviously, Red didn't want to admit Bugenhagen's death to himself, and he didn't want to alarm the party.

Mercen-X

That is so heartless and inconsiderate, dear friend. It's obvious that little MysticD is naive and is, as Red is, unwilling to admit Bugen's death. Let him live in his world of self-delusion a bit.
