Are the Avatar Sizes so small
I know im not using them to there max, but I just wondered why they are small.
Most forums are 100 x 100 which is ideal to me.
They were 65 x 65
Then they shrunk to 60 x 60

Why do they need to be this small ?

Hawkeye
08-30-2005, 09:02 PM
Because God created you that way

Because they're avatars and really aren't that important.

Dreddz

yea, cl_out has a 100 x 100 avatar......

Edit : Can this site at least have one of those Image Scale down things.
So if the image is too big they will shrink it.
Cropping Images is tiresome......

I don't think EoFF has ever had 65x65 avatars :p

And mine's bigger because someone else changed my avatar and I was too lazy to find the original to fix it so just dug out the first avatarish picture I could find on my computer :p

EDIT: It's 90x90 anyway, not 100x100, so I think I must have used it on MSN at one point :p

Leeza
08-30-2005, 09:51 PM
They have always been 60 x 60 and it is one way to have them all neat and uniform. If the limits were any larger, we would have some at 60 x 60, some at 70 x 70, some at 80 x 80, some at 100 x 100 and the place would be terribly messy.

You come here to post and not show off your avatar, don't you?

crono_logical
08-30-2005, 09:51 PM
I know it's been 60x60, because there's been an argument before about why the avatars shouldn't be 64x64 or larger instead because another forum used them and someone wanted to use the same avatars, but 60x60 was too small to allow them to do that :p

in DNB arena, there is no limit on sigs ( but theres no avatars )
And that place has 60,0000 members
So saying that Avatars, sigs sizes matter is not true..........

Leeza
08-30-2005, 10:02 PM
Well, then I guess they don't care how long it takes for their pages to load or if they have more sigs on their site compared to actual post sizes. Not that I know what site you're talking about, but when there is no limit to sigs, some of them can be quite huge.

If the picture you want is too big then open it in paint, go to Image~stretch/skew~and then decrease it in percentages instead of cropping. You don't loose any of your picture that way.

Cz
08-31-2005, 11:39 AM
60x60 is traditional, and the golden rule of EoFF is to never break tradition, no matter how sensible (or stupid) the suggestion may be. Besides, it's not exactly hard to resize an image yourself. Even MS Paint can do it, for Chrissakes.

What sense would 65 x 65 make? 60 x 60 is AIM's size. 100 x 100 is MSN's size. Those are the only reasonable sizes to be used. I think 60 x 60 is perfectly reasonable. However, I'm not too fond of the 6 kb limit that limit seems to come out of no where. I doubt that'll ever be changed though.

I like MecaKane's idea. I could so easily resize my sig to 60 x 60. =D

Yes keep them at 60x60, but Image Scale would definetly be helpful. I spent an hour trying to get the dimensions just right (60x61) and get the right picture, and no, the stretch skew on Paint squashs and warps the picture, and the end result is terible. Ive tried this. Image Scale is great most of the time, but it's NEVER going to happen.

If you want to resize your picture, just download a small, simple program called IrfanView. It takes up minimal space and memory and does the job effectively. You should be able to find the download site for it using a quick web search for 'IrfanView'.

Smaller avatars look quite cute, but sometimes to get one with what you want in you have to cram it in, so it can look a bit messy and illegible. It would probably easier for people to have nicer images if the 6K was change to maybe 10K? I have a feeling that it's for the poor people who are still on dial up so their computers don't explode with too much information.

I know the perfect solution to the problem. Anyone who complains about not being able to have bigger avatars should be forced to have a 10 by 400 avatar. Technically, that is bigger than 60 by 60.

Shlup
09-20-2005, 05:20 AM
But then we'd have to look at them. Then entire point is uniformity, duuuuh.

I say we build a wall. And whoever complains about something stupid gets their username on it. And then once a week we make a thread to make fun of them for being stupid.
