I finally got round to watching it! Teh yayness! It's one of my fave films ever now! However, I was researching into it and found quite a few sites dedicated to hate-mail about it. I can understand why people would get upset, especially Catholics, but it's not really that bad. Is it? Has anyone else seen, and were you offended? Are you religious? How did Dogma affect you religiously? Personally, Dogma backs up some of my views on religion, although I'm not religious.

I don't find it offensive at all. If Constantine was so widely accepted I don't see why this would be offensive. (You are referring to the Dogma (1999) right?)

The Jay and Silent Bob flick? Awesome. Kinda went with some of my thoughts as well (not necissarily beliefs, 'cause I like to keep an open mind)

I didn't find it offensive. Then again, I veiw religion as a big joke itself.

I thought it was one of the funniest movies ive ever seen. I liked how god was a hot chick. funny stuff. didnt really change my veiws on religion though. Of course I am an athiest, so religion doesnt really bother me. I thought it was just a good example of how some churches can act. im not saying any particular church *cough*catholic*cough*, but im sure you know which one I mean.

Are you saying some people take their religion too seriously?

Man, I love this movie.

Can't say I'm suprised a lot of people took offense to it, though. Kevin Smith wasn't shy about poking fun at history according to the Christian religion. Good flick, though.

No you cant say people didnt take offense to it. I saw the movie, and thought it was funny. However, it comes down to you understanding where someone might take offense to it though. You can be like, "Well, I thought it was so kickass, but this Catholic over here is a total idiot because this movie offends his religion." Nah, doesnt work like that. The first place to get a religious understanding of something is respect, which sadly enough, a lot of people on these forums havent grasped on this concept yet.

If you want knowledge of something, stop having biased opinions on from what you do not ackowledge

See what happens when I'm not in EoEO? I get serious :mad2:

I thought it was really funny.
The 13th appostle was a black man? so that's why we've never heard of him :D... I thought that was hilarious. I can see why some might find it offensive. I am somewhat religous, and I wasn't offended at all so... whatever.

Yes, but not only that. Some flaunt thier religion and use it to gain for themselves or something useless like that.

Great movie. The buddy Jesus craked me up. And no its not offensive, some people just have nothing better to do and so they pick at little things in movies, tv programs, books etc and bring up the idea that they are offensive which other people who have nothing else to do agree with and follow. Thus, creating a group of people against it and trying to ban it.

Its a just a reference for people who claim that this movie makes the Church look bad, which it does

I thought it was a good film, and didn't find it offensive - it's a bit too light hearted to be for me.

I love it, and there was one message that I think a lot of the people who watch it and find it offensive overlook. As Serendipidy says "It doesn't matter what faith you have, it's that you have faith."

its a great funny film. Only films that say that its all serious should be considered serious. they even had a disclaimer at the beginning of the film!

I thought it wasa fantastic movie, and i also think that, like everything else in this world, there's no harm in joking around with religion a little bit. I loved the platypi references at the start of the film!!!

If the movie had involved a complete ignorance of bibical knowledge and themes, and had perhaps a hundred and one reasons to love Satan, then I could understand why it would be offensive. As it is it's just a piece of fiction build on a very-well made set of mythos.

Little Nicky on the other hand is offensive in more ways than one.

I was born & raise RC and I loved the movie. Some people are just unable to accept religious satire. I seen it as it was, a satire & enjoyed it. It's if you start taking the MOVIE, not the religion too seriously, do you turn into a humourless twat.

Intelligent film, cleverly done.
I'm slightly amused by all the internet rants about how it's an evil, anti-Christian movie (there's one imbecilic reviewer on Yahoo!Movies who says it's part of a plot to undermine Christianity, orchestrated by "Jews and homosexuals such as Matt Damon and Ben Affleck").

If you pay even the slightest attention to this movie, you realise that it's tremendously respectful toward God and Christ. Both are treated with the reverence that they are afforded by Christianity. The only thing this movie criticises is the tendency of some churches to forget about their roots, getting mired in ritual and dogma rather than remaining true to their purpose. It's sarcastic but constructive criticism of what some denominations are at risk of becoming.

I'm not Christian, but I appreciate and enjoy this movie in a lot of ways.

I don't think it mocked or exploited Christianity and don't understand why anyone would be offended. Except for Catholics, but the Pope is offended by Harry Potter so that doesn't say much.

Well put, Big D. I never saw ANYTHING on that movie that I construed as truly blasphemous, but rather it took a few good shots at a lot of points that people get hung up on (ie// Maybe Jesus IS black, maybe God IS a woman....heh....I could see a lot of Misogynists ting themselves now...:p)
