View Full Version : UK meet-up in Cambridge this October?

Okles, so I was talking to my friend on MSN last night, and we decided that there should definitely be another meet-up. However, we live in East Anglia, and we couldn't make it to the previous meet-ups because of travel problems, evil parents, being broke, etc. So, we were thinking of meeting up in Cambridge sometime in October. The date's yet to be fixed, but I'm hoping for a Saturday, or one day during half-term or something.
What do you guys think?

I think why do the UKers get all the fun? Also why does North America have to be so big.

One day, my dear TSoL, I'll travel to America and meet you, I promise. Then we'll see about us UKers hogging all the fun! :D

Well sounds like a great idea.. I suppose.
Chances are I shalnt be going this time if it does end up in Cambridge    as I live up north in Yorkshire and will rely on either a hefty priced train ticket or the considerably impossible mission of my parents taking me there.

It's extremely unlikely that I can show up, so put me down as a 500/1 rank outsider.

After checking where it is, and discovering that Cambridge is indeed not within walking distance of my flat, I have decided that I will not be going to this meetup. Apologies. I encourage you to cut your hair while at said meetup and send it to me, though.

Dan and I might be able to meet anyone we know that wants to go to Cornwall. xD But I don't know when that is right now as I'm suffering financially.

That was a joke. :( And I passed Geography every year for each of the five years of High School! :D In fact, I've never failed an exam - although I got 51% in 7th form English, I think. Bastard teachers cut out the expressive writing area that year. :(

There are two main shooping centres in Cambridge, the Lion Yard Walk and the Grafton Centre. Personally, I'd suggest meeting up at the Grafton, as it's indoors and there's a lovely big space for everyone to meet at.

I live in Bury St. Edmunds, which is about 40 mins by train to Cambridge.

right, here is my problem, i am in London, with strict parents [blue rectangle] and we are aiming for cambridge [red circle]. The yellow line indicates the going between.

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b367/13Hero13/londoncambridge.jpg

now, i know that it would be a long journey anyway, but it's still a bit long. My parents have also failed to acknowledge the fact i am turning fifteen this year and CAN look after myself. So getting there and back looks to be a massive problem. Other than that, sure! I'll be there :Oo:

I'm too lazy to draw it on the map, but just look north-west of Cambridge and you'll see Leicester, which is where I'll be. It's underneath the word England, if you still can't find it. I think that's slightly closer than where I am now.

I would like to come to this one, however, it's far too far away for me. I live in the red circle somewhere. Near Stoke if that helps.

Cambridge wouldn't necessarily be a problem for me, although getting permission to go and meet a bunch of goths and perverts I met on the internet might be a bit tough. The real problem is that I don't have any free time in October. Maybe if this had been done a couple of months ago I'd be able to show up, but I'm afraid I'll have to count myself out for a third time.

I get the feeling that until there's a London meetup I'll be denied your wonderful and enlightening company. :(

Permission? I'm not getting permission. I'm just telling my parents that I'm going 'uptown' with some friends and I'll phone them when I need picked up. Mind you, I usually go to Cambridge so :p And I'm neither a goth nor a pervert, thank you. I'm a magical cow named Bobalina! :D

Meeting times: I'm planning on getting there for about 10 - 11 am, and I'll probably be leaving maybe 7-ish, depending on the trains. Dates I'm looking at are the first Saturday in October, which is the first of October. ^_^ I've temporarily ruled out half-term, as I may be going to Centre Parcs with my friends, providing I can scrape the cash together. However, if Centre Parcs is a no-go, I'll look into that again. Anyone wanting help planning their trip can PM/e-mail me, although I may only be able to help plan the train journeys.

Yeah I have the same problem as one winged angel, I don't suppose you could make it more like 12:00 11-12ish? It would then just be an early rise for me if I can go instead of getting no sleep and resting my eyes on the train and missing my stop.

well said stalker, though i can't complain, i'm an hour or two away but realy bad with trains, i'd need a really experienced person to be there every step of the way so i didn't wander off on my own or go the wrong way, wrong train...and all that jazz.

I haven't responded to this one before, but I will now. Consider me a wonderful (yet unsurprisingly) NO.
Yes, I enjoyed the previous ones (despite the recent one almost getting me fired from work... long story) but I really can't be bothered to go to another one (unless it's a casual Christmas one) which involves heavy use of Trains.
Plus, I'm busy and I'd like to save my holiday for use on a rainy day. Also, we've had two this year already. Why not save you're resources till you're older and more people can go?

Have fun nevertheless.

I live in Peterborough which is in cambirdgeshire, so i reckon cambridge shouldn't be all that far for me to go. Still in East-anglia after all. Anyhoo, i suppose that advantage of a meetup in the middle of the country is good because it's in the Middle; just as easy to get to from the top of the country as the bottom

Please, there is a big difference between where tourists would be and the rough areas in London (like where I live :D).

And I think London has enough in the way of Aquariums, Zoo's, Arcades, Theaters, Highstreets, Markets, Parks, Rivers, abandoned themepark domes and tediously slow ferris wheels to match ANY other city in mid to south England (which lets face it, is a bit of a dump anyway).
