So hi guys I'm here to ask you if you like Green Day!If yes what's your favourite album? :p

DK
08-31-2005, 09:14 AM
They used to be my favourite band. I think I got known here back in the day because I used the same Green Day sig and avatar for like, a year or something. :p

But yeah, once I stopped being an angsty teenager I grew out of them. Plus their new album, apart from a few songs, is crap. I like Kerplunk! and Nimrod the best, though.

Green Day have never been punk, they're Pop Punk. I'd say they're more rock and roll style than punk for sure.

Warning isn't so bad, it has some good songs on it, it's just not a usual Green Day style album. The ones on American Idiot are too crappy soft rock, though.

It represents the growth of the band perfectly imo. The lyrics have a ton more thought put into em than previous releases. I must admit thier blantent lyrics were great too.

I think Nimrod and AI were my favorite cds. Dookie is great too; but not my fav. (My wife would kill me dead if she reads that though  )

So the kids the music is aimed at arn't allowed to like bands if they've never followed them for their entire lives?

No, but it kind of pisses me off when anybody who suddenly likes any band of any age acts like they have been their biggest fan all their lives because they like the band's newest album--which is what I see happening with young people and Green Day.

It's the same crap with Nirvana. Almost every teen today who is into rock based music claims to really like Nirvana, and they claim they liked them their whole lives. Maybe that is true for a couple of them. But they were around five years old when Kobain blew his head off, so I highly doubt all of them have been following Nirvana since their early ages.

For the record, I think there is nothing wrong if you get into a band suddenly for whatever reason. However, when you lie about it and claim you have been there since the band's first album, that is what gets to me. Sorry I didn't make that clear last night. I see young people who get into older bands lie about this kind of thing far too often these days. Once again, I know not every single one of them who says something like that is lying about it. For example, take myself. Because of my parents, I've been into Pink Floyd my entire life. I am 23. Obviously, I wasn't around at their peak or anything like that. I probably would have evntually liked them, but not at my early age.

Anyway, to sum everything up: What I meant by my first post was that it kind of pisses me off that young people (mainly teens) are all of a sudden listening to Green Day because they are huge again. That pissed me off becuase about two years ago when they weren't nominated for a zillion MTV VMA awards, no young person really followed them. Now that they are into them, I have seen so many young people lie about being into them since their earlier albums. I know that there are probably some fans with a Pink Floydish story like mine, but I HIGHLY doubt all of the young fans that claim to have liked them as long as they say they do are telling the truth.

I see where you're coming from, but then there's me. I suppose the only reason I got into Green Day because both of my brothers have been huge fans of them for years. And I'm glad I did, because most of their stuff before American Idiot was awesome. But it does piss me off that a hell of a lot of people (some of my friends, as well) insist that they've always been Green Day fans, and have only heard the newest album. Ew. And also, everybody who's like "lol greenday is punks lol im a punk". Green Day aren't even punk, they're pop-punkish.

Last time I checked, Green Day were pop-punk, a very widely used term for anything vaguely alternative or unplaceable. To me, Green Day are another band which has been propelled from its darker days towards a brighter future, only to plummet once more in the near future. Fame doesn't last.

Punk is a lifestyle, not a type of music. To be punk, you cannot be mainstream. Therefore Green Day are not punk. Go up to someone who follows the punk lifestyle and tell them that Green Day is punk. I'm sure you'll get a highly entertaining response.

Pop punk is an oxymoron, they cannot exist together by definition, and Green Day is most certainly not punk rock.

Anyway, that's the last I'm gonna say about this, so it doesn't degenerate into whether or not it's punk (which it isn't).

In my opinion, Green Day blew chunks until their latest album, which is solid gold. I love every song on American Idiot. Especially Jesus of Suburbia. Who thought a punk band like them could make a long, dynamic song like that which holds your interest the entire time? I find it awesome. The vocal melodies are fantastic.

Apparently he does, and no, they arent pop punk, because as stated, Pop Punk CANNOT exist. Punk is not a style of music, it is a lifestyle. Pop is the very opposite of punk, and therefore, you CANNOT be pop punk. It cant exist.

How about this- Green Day is an acquired taste. They have their own style,& people label them "punk-pop,alternative,punk,emo ect," becuase they can't decide who the hell they are. I really think people enjoy giving out labels to start fights.& if people give out what their opinion is about the band, leave them alone. It's what they believe.Only the person itself can change it.I don't argue with people who don't like them, neighter should anyone.
Bands are not soup cans;they are people who joined together for a common cause....to make music THEY like.Flame me all you want, but I won't argue back, because it's solely your opinion,& it doesn't matter to anyone but you.& that's okay, becuase I won't argue, since I'm not bullheaded about those kind of things.

Eeeh...they're alright. I like their older stuff. A.I. gets on my nerves. You can't go anywhere without hearing songs off of it. It's like, AAAH! *dies*

You don't like stuff from American Idiot because with this album they became more famous and you know when a band becomes you guys don't listen it because it stops being punk or sth...Truly i cannot understand you!
