Hmm, I have my doubts about the quality. It looks like the sort of sword where the blade would end up detaching from the hilt. Besides that, if you wanted to do any combat, it'd be totally off balance.

I have the feeling its a scam. I dunno, i just do. The quality of the page is questionable, and as Hsu said it may not be the best tool to attept to become a god with.

Yes the question of Combat Ready or "Full tang" (does the metal that makes up the blade go all the way down throught the handle) should be raised. As well as, it truelly would be nearly unwieldable due to its lack of balance. My guess is that it is a show peice plain and simple.

Combat with this manner of weapon (i believe) would be non existant. I imagine you could swing it once (and most likely miss) before your oponent was withen a range where it would be too long to weild effectively even defensively speaking.

Just a random extra thought there

Well, you know, they mentioned on a thread in here somewhere that a swordmaker specialist really has made the Masamune and the Buster Sword.

It's not a proper samurai sword.

It was just made to look like that, no other reason.

It'd just be dumb if that was an orginal Katana.

I've seen a lot of replicas. I don't think anyone's idea in buying it would be to efficiently duel with neighbors whose dog goes to the bathroom on their lawn. It's a novelty item; just for show.

Although long swords of the katana style have been used in history. In most cases, the warrior would have a servant carry the sword, and hold it while he unsheathed it. The chopping power would be devestating, and to use it effectively you'd probably have to take advantage of its range. But no, probably not that useful overall.

Gilgamesh of Legends
09-04-2005, 03:44 AM
There isnt enough handle to use it properly, for a sword with 6 feet of blade it would need 3 feet of handle or so. counting the heavy weight of the blade. They were used for a period as a weapon against calvary, but due to its movement restrictions and the difficulty of weilding such a massive weapon, the warrior can be defeated by a novice swordsman. Last time they were used in battle was in around 1500's. I dont remember the Shogun who ruled back then, sorry mates =]

Killing isn't a fad, it's a way of life for psychos, a necessity for anyone who tries to defend something or destroy it, and a horrible, horrible thing altogether. The proper punishment against your teachers isn't to kill them, but to ruin them. Bankrupt them, make their lives miserable, and laugh in their face. Once you've crushed your teacher's spirit, you'll become a god amongst your miscreant and frequently delinquent peers. *wretch*

Drop the gonja, you disreputable!

I highly doubt that this is valid. Unless the person holding the sword in the pic is 7'5", the sword is still much shorter than Sephy's. Sephiroth's Masamune is longer than Sephiroth is tall (check out the pic of Sephy holding his sword if you don't believe me), while the blade of this one doesn't even come up to the guy's neck (measure the length of the blade, then measure the kid's height). Given that Sephiroth is the tallest character in FFVII at 6'5", approximately (I need to check my manual again, but I'm fairly sure that he's about that tall, and that he's taller than Barret), this kid is either a giant, or it's a scam. Therefore, it's a scam. Not only would it not be a battle quality sword (it's inherent unwieldly-ness aside), but it's a rip-off as a novelty piece as well. My guess is that the tape measure extends a good foot and a half past the length of the blade, since they don't show the measurement against the entire sword.

Note also the incredibly shoddy workmanship on the close up of the handle. It looks like a backpack strap wrapped around a piece of plastic. Pathetic.

Actually, you have it backwards. Barett is the tallest character (at 6'5"); Sephiroth is only 6'1". Other than that, your point still stands; the "Masamune" being sold is certainly not a faithful reproduction of what appears in the Nomura artwork.

Ok, thanks. I couldn't remember, but I did have a nagging doubt, which is why I mentioned Barrett. I need to find my manual again.

No, mithril does not exist. It is a metal originally made up by J.R.R. Tolkien and was used in Middle Earth, but has since been adapted by many different fantasy games. It is usually a derivative of silver (in Middle Earth, the dwarves who first mined and crafted it called it true-silver). Sometimes it is given magical properties, other times it is simply an alloy (a silver/steel combination is one of the most popular alloys). It has had several different spellings in various video games (mithril, mythril, even myrthil), but the original spelling is mithril.

That Katana is not Sephiroth's Katana nor a Replica of it.

I think that Katana's like that was made 400 years ago probably in Shibuya (Japan) I think the name of it is "Shikuchi" or "Harusame" it is a combination of iron and steel...(I could be wrong) and yes it is impossible to use it in an actual close quarter combat (CQB) because of its size and weight but it is said that some samurai's used it as a secondary weapon after using a bow when they are riding in a horse and when an enemy is approaching to them they used that kind of katana as a spear like weapon, thrusting it to the enemies heart, in that year spears have not been invented yet so they made a long katana instead that is similar to the broad sword in the medivial era but much more lightweight.
5 years later a much more efficient Katana was made and named before their warriors/soldiers which is know as "Samurai" or should I say "Samurai Sword/Katana" Today Katana's like that are or "Shikuchi's" or "Harusame's" are usually displayed in a museum as a national historical weapon...I think they have an event in Japan that they use "Shikuchi's" or Harusame's" to perform a martial art and then put it in a shrine/temple for a ceremonial rituals.

Katanas were their 1st and main weapon that they have invented actually the Kodachi was the 1st but due to its short size its difficult to slash an enemy when your afar so you need to get close to an enemy to slash him. (Assassins prefered Kodachi's)

How did they got that sword!?
I think they hired a weapon smith to make one...the sheath and hilt is easy but the blade is hard to make.

ok first of all...the idea of the sword is fiction because it is from a video game so it doesnt matter if its "battle ready" it is just a novelty item, but it does seem fake.
