A variety of slowly simmered dinosaur eggs. The DNA combined into some sort of hideous being. God didn't like it and sent in to the sun where it exploded. God decided to eat the cooked being and it turns out it tasted pretty good. He then transformed the dinosaurs responsible into a less ugly looking being and turned all their eggs into this new being. The result is the chicken and chicken eggs.

So to answer your question BOTH! It happened all at the same time.
