I mean I love evangelion though its severley over rated and I watched ,hack//sign because I was obsessed with the series after the first game but most of what I've seen (not much in compariosn to many on this board) was pretty mediocre.

Anime is like any other form of entertainment. There are a few jems in a world of crap. Find what you like and watch it.

If you're watching a lot of the CN stuff, it's not surprising. Even a lot of Adult Swim's stuff isn't for everyone.

ed's got it.

There's good and bad stuff in any medium, be it anime, games, movies, etc., and with every form of entertainment, some like it and some don't. I'm going along with what ed's saying here.

Newer anime is rarely for me. I'll take some old Voltron. Or the original few seasons of Ranma, or Tenchi Universe. But anymore its really hard for me to find one I wouldn't mind sitting through a whole series for. In fact (especially with CN) its hard to find one where I can stomach a whole episode anymore. Cowboy Bebop was of course awesome. And Outlaw Star wasn't so bad. But yeah. Gems in a sea of mediocrety (sp?)

Seeing as how everyone is probably going to agree with me I will list what I like

Studio Bones
Studio Bee-Train
Gundam

My collection is pretty much that. I usually like what Bones and Bee-Train churn out(although Eureka 7 has not caputured my interest at all and Wolf's Rain was...yeah). I am sucker for Gundam. There are others here and there like Bebop or Inuyasha that have captured my interest but I stick with what I know for the most part and don't stray from it.

The best ones out of this are hack//sign(bee-train) and FMA(bones).

Not all anime is good stuff, but you may find some you enjoy.

I seem to be bashing anime lately, mostly the americanized, because I want my anime to be beautiful and subtitled, and have nothing edited out. I grew up with anime and I seem to appreciate the stuff I grew up with as opposed to the new series that are coming out. I don't necessarily watch anything anymore, I'm sticking to reading manga instead.

Same here. :D

The only thing I really noticed about anime that I could see as a general negative is that alot of them take annoying animation shortcuts. Of course, not all do, but alot more anime do it than animation from other countries typically do. It doesn't really bug me thoughm but I know that's the primary bitch that comes up in the "ANIME SUX" argument.

Well no, actually "big eyes" is.

In Britain they still call it manga, which in many ways is worse.

Anime is good but the kiddy animes get on my nerves. Their all about cards and tournaments. Sheesh cant they find something else to make a series about! The adult swim ones are pretty good tho and theres acouple of the kid ones that are ok, mainly the ones that dont involve battling in tournaments using cards or monsters or whatever. Like Astro Boy, that was good.

I don't watch anime really but it really makes me not want to watch it when kids act obnoxious and overly obsessed when the topic arises.

Actually i think Naruto is considered a kids anime even though theres tons of blood and stuff compared to most kids shows.

Big Eyes shows the character, you cant really fault them for big eyes, the more big the eyes, the more young and extrovert they are. Smaller eyes generally denominate a more manly/serious character.

Generally large eyes indicate innocence. The narrower the eyes, the less innocent. The notable example is in anime like Spiral where this girl:

http://www.wondermay.com/spiral/rio.jpg

Is in fact a bomb's expert with no qualms about killing people who get in her way. And is about 16.

Anyways, anime shouldn't be judged as a whole either negatively or positively any more than movies or television shows should be. Some is good, some is bad. It just depends on what you want to see.

I think it's pretty hilarious when this topic pops up in a Final Fantasy fora. Seriously, where do you think the modern RPG style came from? Xenogears/Saga especially? (Which I notice you're a fan of...) I just don't understand how one could hate anime and enjoy RPGs, unless the only reason you play an RPG is for the way hella excitin battles. woohoo

And, of course, I wouldn't say anime is bad as a whole, but rather there's individual titles that suck and blow you away, respectively. :|

I'm sure quite a few people do. It's impossible for everyone to like the same things, after all. And, just like anything else, not all of anime is good. For every superb offering you get 10 DBZs.

And I havent even played either of those games/series. I like RPG's in general for storyline and easy comfortable gameplay.

All right first up I'm pretty sure that would be "cor blimey".

And the only time I've seen Anime referred to as Manga would be by "Manga Video". Last I checked one company doesn't represent an entire nation (well many nations).

I think the newer animes are getting kinda strange. Though Im a fan of the older Gundams, Ruroni Kenshin, Cowboy Bebop, Vampire Hunter D, and of the new ones I enjoy Samurai Champloo (KILL BILL RULES! for those of you who get that)

I kinda get what he was saying. Especially with Xenogears. That game was like a long and deep 3D interactive anime. But they did that on purpose to give it its style. Using anime-esque sprites and whatnot. But I think the point was that these RPGs come from the same culture that anime comes from. You're going to have characters that look similar (big eyes, shiney abnormally colored hair, etc.) The humor in RPGs can be parallelled with certain animes. Stuff like that.

Yes even though a few anime has style like

Samraui Champloo and Last Exile.

Most anime has that cliche crap going ona nd its pissing me off. Really though its not the anime I hate its the anime fans who call themselves otakus and hink they are kewl spanking it to hentai.(there is a guy at my school he actually spanks it to hentai no in my honest opinion I would never respect myself ever again if i did it to some drawn crap.)

That's pretty close to what I'm talking about. Basically, anime and the games featured on this board come from the same place and are very similar in the way they tell stories and take humor. They have a give-take relationship, and it's not hard to see if you pay attention. It doesn't make sense to me to play an RPG for it's story and hate it's counterpart in general when they're so similar... unless, of course, you're only watching it for the animation? I dunno.

Maybe I'll just hop on the bandwagon and say it's just like any other entertainment media out there... there's good and there's bad and you just have to look and shoosh until you have. :rolleyes2

Well every one has their favorite show. I grew up with Sailor moon, loved it. But now that im older and scene the uncut version. It makes me hate america even more for cencorship. (Yea sailor moon was introduced when being gay was taboo. So many things had to change.) Now a days anime is differnt. You can get away with many more things. Maybe it just the times. But its always good for a laugh.

Anime isn't for everyone. When I first started out I didn't get the humor or the style but it grew on me and I'm a HUGE fan of it now. There are other types of entertainment that I tried out, didn't like, didn't mess with again.

I can understand how it could get annoying because there are things other people like that annoy the hell outta me, so don't think I'm not respecting your opinion, k?

What it comes down to - some people video games are an escape for others working on cars, playing sports, or even reading books. Anime/manga is just another escape, another hobby people enjoy and will continue to enjoy whether YOU like it or not.

As far as the highlighted comment ( being the Hentai School Girl Otaku Fan of Doom I am ) I'll explain why I personally enjoy hentai . . . I like porn. I like porn a lot. I prefer hentai over real life porn though simply because it appears neater and cleaner. That's just my personal thing, my fetish, and its as simple as . . . if you don't like it don't spank to it. Situation neutral and everything is in the clear again. >_>
