So what do yo uthink about vampires/ vampire myths? I've always found the topic rather interesting. Not so much the: "ARRRRGGGHHH, I'LL BITE YOU" thing but more the deeper meaning behind the myths and stories. Many vampire stories are sad or tragic; they are often lonely, cold and very romantic. I've always been fascinated by the whole "Vampire myth" and although, I do not wish to become one, I do see the escape it could bring. So, any thoughts?

The concept of vampires is overromanticized, I think. I've seen far too many bad roleplays to really be able to derive any enjoyment of the concept. Some of the concepts are intriguing, and I do use vampires in my own writing, but I generally prefer to alter them and make them my own instead of using the traditional legends and the like.

Ninjas > Vampires > Pirates

Edit - RPing on Yahoo I come across way too many vampire characters. Maybe that's why the but concept of vampires is a bit boring to me. Although Hellsing has been able to keep my attention.

As far as being on subject, I've always been more of a fan of Sirens. Those are my favorite.

I agree, but at the same time, as you said, I don't fully reject the old ways and myths.

I have many nightmare/dreams about vampires. Many dream dictionaries say it represents repressed love or sexual desires. I stop having those dreams now, but I think that interpertation is right. Vampires are a nocturnal creature, so they can easily be associated with "darker" or more oppressed sides of ourselves. Not that long ago in history sex was a forbidden topic, so we easily could associate vampires--wild, dark creatures, with one of the most "dark" aspects of human nature: lust.

My friends and I discussed the mechanics of a reverse vampire today.

Jimmy: "Hey everyone at the Blood Drive, it's me, Jimmy the Reverse Vampire! *spews blood*"
Blood drive staff: "Thanks, Jimmy! We'll sop up all of this blood from the floor, walls, curtains, patients, workers, etc. and get it to people in need of blood right away!"
Jimmy: "No problem...it's what I dooooooo! *flies off*"

We're stupid. Really, really stupid.

I have always been fasinated by vampires, and yes I wouldn't mind being one. The stories are always so sad and so romantic. One of my fav books are Bram Stoker's Dracular.

I actually wrote a paper on the myths and theories on vampires my sophomore year.

I won't put the whole thing in here, but the most interesting part I wrote about since it was about 9 pages long. :S If you want to read the whole thing just ask me and I'll send it to you, but yeah.

Yet theories have risen along the tide of believing and the most rational one I have found is within the sickness of Diabetes. Hautman has claimed that the legend all began back in medieval times when there wasn’t any real information about Diabetes. The Diabetic is only a victim of a slow death that goes through changes, which is ideally and unusually similar to vampirism. The first symptom is being overly hungry and thirsty because of too much glucose in the blood. The subject seems possessed since she wants to consume everything in sight and she is given food. She appears to have larger canines because of too much glucose in her blood, her gum line recedes, yet making her the village “vampire.” She is rejected because of the expensive food so she goes to hunt on her own, which leads her to murdering livestock and eating them in the flesh. She will do anything to satisfy her need for food, even as to becoming a human bloodsucker (Hautman 32).

Hautman, Pete. “The Sad Truth About Bloodsucking Demons.” Sweetblood. Simon and Schusters, 2003. New York: 27-32.

I have heard there are other sicknesses besides Diabetes that seem like this, anyway...I hope I've given you -some- insight, but you may already know all of this, I just have always found it interesting.

i didn't like them much at first, but i did enjoy the movie "Lost Boys", plus i liked what i read about a tyrant called Vlad Tepes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vlad_III_Dracula) [or Vlad the Impaler], said to be the true vampire/dracula, as well as some other people thought to be vampires. very, very interesting.

what's better tho...

ninja+vampire. imagine what it's like to get stealth killed and have ur blood drained at the same time! or just a simple bloodsucking stealth kill...

I like how it's presented in "I, Vampire" by Micheal Romkey, in that book it's not so supernatural. In there it's a virus that alters you DNA and lets you use more of your brain cause you know humans only use 10% of theirs. They also don't live forever just a really long time and they age very very very slowly. It's cool it has historicle people asvampires because htey are trying to preserve the arts. Like Mozart, Rastputin, and others.then thees evil historical popele like Jack the ripper, Von baden, Hitler, and again others. it's a great vampire series you should read it.
Anywho if the myths are at all true i'd thing it would be more something like that rather than them being like a demon or something. But yes the over use of the vampire in Rping is a little old.

I keep wanting to read books on them... not 'factualy' of course. A friend suggested me a series, but I forgot it. Another suggested 'Dracula'. I suggested Hellsing to the first one. Vampire Hunter D was ok.

Aside from modern media things... Vampires interest me. Pale, dark, blood, death. Come to think of it, what a perfect thing to read about... *goes away*

Erased, if you want to read about vampires non-factualy, then read The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice. Especially, Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat and The Queen of the Damned.

Of course Vampires aren't real, which is why they are able to be facinating. If they were real it would be pretty freaky. I'm not quite sure what my attraction is to them, but I've always liked reading and watching movies about vampires.

I don't really like vampires. The stories are extremely dramatic entwined with a one-way love story.

What makes me even more turned off to it. Is that humans today actually claim to be vampires. "Awakened" in their life. That to me is translated into mental distress and disorder.

Vampires r my favourite outta all the "demons/ myths" and such. "Interview with the Vampire" I think is the best Vampire movie, (book, tho i never read the Anne Rice books) And I have my favourite quote to put with this too. :D Also, I hope their real, I wouldn't mind being one. Life would be very interesting then.....

"There comes a time for every Vampire, when the idea of Eternity becomes unbearable. Living in the shadows .....feeding in the Darkness with only your own company to keep rotts into a solitary hollow existence. Imortality seems like a good idea until you realise that you are going to spend it.....Alone....."
Lestat

Aahhh.....The life of a Vampire, hehehe, has it's ups and downs :p
