Anyone else call Red XIII 'Nanaki'? [Archive] - Eyes on Final Fantasy Forums

Does anyone else refer Red XIII as Nanaki? I've always done so after my first beating of the game, as he's one of my favorite characters and I feel it's proper to refer to him with his real name. Whenever I replay the game, I always name him Nanaki now and forget Red XIII.

I stick with Nanaki, it sounds natural and Red XIII is the name Hojo gave him. i hate hojo so i just named him Nanaki.

I'm only on my second playthrough of VII, but I did name him Nanaki this time. It's a much cooler name than Red XIII.

I love Nanaki.

I was so pissed off yesterday though. I have two cats, one ginger/red and one tabby. Thinking back, why oh why didn't I call him Nanaki? I'm so stupid =(

Oh well, I'll just have to get a Nanaki when I'm older...

And you know why?
Well in greek "Νάνος"(Nanos) means dwarf and a little dwarf is a "Nanaki"
So everytime i say nanaki i usually laugh so i prefere Red XII.

i did the last time i played it thorugh, i think it suits him very well and it makes much more sense that the characters call him that after cosmo canyon, plus it must be hard for the characters saying 13 eveytime they say his name :choc:

For the longest time I read his name as Red "Ex-three". I don't know why I did that. But now it's buried deep into my memory banks so that's how i'll always know him.

heh....my last playthrough, when I went to rename him, I couldn't remember his name (Nanaki) for the life of me!! And I didn't feel like leaving the couch to check this site, and I really didn't want to call him by Hojo's specimen name (RedXIII), so figured I'd call him Lionheart (He is something like a great cat, afterall). It fitted him perfectly.

First time through I called him Red XIII. But the second time through (thx to ps2 Slim, off topic, did anyone get a ps2 Slim and got there ps1 game files corrupted if they tried saving?) I called him Nanaki because it seamed logical (except for “Nanaki is Nanaki, that is his name” :confused: adding some humor..... w/e).

It's funny how he clearly states that Red XIII is a name that has no meaning, so the group ends up calling him it anyways. Plus Hojo gave him that name, and well, he's a jerk.

In conclusion, calling him Nanaki just seams to be the right thing to do, in my opinion.

i tried calling him Lil Puppy. it wasn't as funny as i thought it'd be but it was alright. got a giggle in or two.

Red was as well. Hojo gave him a specimen tattoo; we never get to know what he did to him, if anything. Nanaki doesn't seem much willing to talk about it.

The reason Hojo wanted to breed Aeri[s/th] with Red is that he knew Red's specie, whatever it may be, had immense longevity. Hojo hoped that the offspring would have the same Ancient properties as Aeri[s/th], but would be able to last the 120 years it would take to complete the research.
