Light Mage: "I'm playing FF Dawn of Souls and I have no idea how I go about upgrading my little dudes & dudesses into their higher-level functions."
Light Mage: "I've got the Mud Crystal and been to the ice cavern, and am just about to start the volcano dungeon, if that helps any?"
Light Mage: "...I'm confused."

Sasquatch: I believe you'll get to a point where the class change is in the storyline.
Sasquatch: What the hell is up with this?

uhm you need to go to the castle of Ordeal, up North, and get the Rat tail, or just tail in that version not sure, you can go with the ship to get the tail, makes the journey much shorter/easier because you can just park at the end of a river(center of the map, in the north) and don't have to walk really far in some difficult fights, depending on your level. After you get the floater from the ice cave and the airship, and the tail, fly up to the islands with the holes in them, due west of the castle, and one of them will have Bahamut at the bottom and if you have the tail he will upgrade your characters.
and no it won't happen in the story line, this game is very open ended, no direct story line really. I mean when I play I beat the earth cave, get the floater, get the airship, upgrade my characters, and then do all the work to get the adamant, and usually end up beating the technically 4th fiend, before beating the second fiend. In the DoS version, I end up doing the entire Whisperwind cove and getting the Ultimate Weapon before fighting the second fiend. Plus you can also beat the game without upgrading characters

Light Mage: "It's old fashioned FF text speak. You always have the person who talks, then the quotation of what they say. Maybe in the future game memory storage capacity will be high enough for EVERYTHING to be voice-acted..."
Light Mage: "I need the airship? Okay, I guess I have to progress to the stage of the game where I can get that - I have the Rat Tail and the FloatRock already..."

JACKAL: "But aren't all the letters in the name capitalized usually as well?"

Light Mage: "I think it depends on if you have all caps when you enter their names. Of course, i forgot that in the days of the NES they only used upper case lettering, didn't they? But I shouldn't use that as it would seem shouty and rude, I think..."

go to the ice cave, and get the floater, follow the rivers north of the volcano to get there, once you get the floater go to the desert south of the volcano you can see it from the ocean, in fact you can park your boat on the mouth of the river there, and I believe in the DoS version there is a short FMV or whatnot.
and there are only spells up to level 8...

Why is everyone copying me?? :crying2: I started that color crap!! But for the record. You have to speak to Bahamut and bring him the Rat's Tail. But I also have a question. I once heard that when you get class upgraded that you can also change them. This didn't let me choose...

Maxx Power : Referring to yourself in the third person is cool and totally original. Talking like a Pirate for a month isn't.

Light Mage: "I have magic copy/paste powers ;-)"
Light Mage: "I finally did it. I had to walk into that little area of desert next to Crescent Lake, which I would have NEVER done in the course of the game because there didn't seem to be anything there worth looking at. I would have been stuck without the airship or able to progress with the game EVER, all because that little area of desert looked insignificant."

I'm quite sure people in crescent lake and stuff talk about how the Sky Warriors buried it beneath the sand, or rumor has it that something is buried beneath the sand... something along these lines, it's definitely hinted/told to you if you talk to people, cause see, back in the old day, RPGs were you talk to people, and figure out where to go yourself... as opposed to following the straight forward story without much deviation.
