Garden for instance has just the first letter on capital.

I think I remember reading in another thread once that Cid and Seed are spelt the same way in japanese, so they did SeeD to tell the differnece. I don't know how you can capitalize a "d" in japanese, though.

Sometimes letters don't mean anything, guys.
I think Raven Nox has a good thing going here.
anyways, yes, there are capitalized things that are made into acronyms after the fact, like PERL or USA PATRIOT ACT. And I reference this week's AWAD newsletter for Tuesday in saying this. Sometimes more fun things are done with acronyms, such as have self-referencing ones (GNU's Not Unix)
SeeD is SeeD. Would you rather they simply be seeds floating on the wind? Square had already used full caps for AVALANCHE anyways, they needed something to be different.

the lower case letters,ee, are probably little words and the capital letters,SD, are probably big words. Like DoC, Dirge, is a big word ,of, is a little word, and Cerberus,(i dont know if thats how you spell it) is a big word too. I dont know.

I dont see why anyone would think it stood for something, given the game's extremely obvious theme. Garden, seed. The capitalized d is for aesthetic purposes only. If it stood for something, the game would tell us. As it is, they pretty much shove the 'garden' motif in our faces.

In FFVII, Sephiroth, Zack, and others are called SOLDIER, not soldier. And no one has ever wondered if SOLDIER is an acronym, so why is everyone wandering if SeeD is an acronym? I can imagine they write SeeD instead of Seed so that the term becomes noticeable. If somone just saw the word Seed (that would have to be at the beginning of a sentence) they might just overlook the work, but SeeD is noticeable no matter what.

My thoughts exactly. No clue why people would pronounce it "C D" as that would defeat the whole "seeds in a garden" theme. "Seed" is not pronounced "C D" and neither should "SeeD" be pronounced that way. They are the seeds of their respective Garden :D

I think named it SeeD 'cause they spread their knowledge all around the world of Final Fantasy VIII so that's where we get the name Garden! And maybe the 'D' at the end means 'Determination'; ''See Determination'' or something to that sense!

SeeD stands for SeeD. The name comes from a paradoxical timeloop, and Squall- who told Edea the name, didn't know what it meant.
That's pretty confusing right there, the whole timeloop thing, I mean when he went back in time at the end. It's like, if Squall told her the name, and then went back in time again, the whole thing just like plays itself over and over again lol. But how can there be 2 Squalls at the same time? And if he did go back in time and told her that, where did the name originate from, it must have came from somewhere! So I agree with the theory about SeeD, and Garden. And perhaps the D in SeeD was simply for it to stand out, because if you were reading through text and saw "Seed", it wouldn't stand out as much. Or maybe we are overlooking it, and it is simply a typographical error, and they decided to keep it because it looks cool lol.:D

Or maybe the big "D" represents the way you write "Seed" in Japanese, which is "shi" and "do"; thus "See" represents the "shi" character and "D" represents the "do".

The last letter is capitalize because it is pronounced "CD"... :shifty:
This is a long thread, so I only read up to this point. I must correct you.
SeeDs planted in a Garden.
Thus, it is pronounced the same as the word, "seed." Now, I may go back and read to see if someone else made this correction.
EDIT: Okay, nevermind. It looks like this point has already been run into the ground. Time for me to step out of this thread.
