How could possibly seifer defeated odin

He countered odin's zantetsuken attack

It was stupid, and an insult to norse mythology.

you know ive heard if you dont get odin seifer joins your party on disc 4
and if you get your airship back it might be possible to go back and get odin sadly no gilgamesh

Could have been worse, he could have been eaten by Angelo...

If you got that that's really sad...

I agree that it's an insult too. Gilgamesh was a king and a hero, while Odin was a god. Besides, Odin looked cooler and was more useful.

well if you don't want Odin to die, just wait til you're on disk 4 to get Odin, however you do not get seifer. And, they both have their advantages. Gilgamesh can come at any point in battle, not just at the beginning, so he could randomly appear and hit for big damage, of course he could also hit for 1 damage, but then again, he can appear more than once a battle. Odin only appears at the start of battle.

Except that Odin appears a lot more frequently than Gilgamesh. Odin shows up about once every 7 battles, while I have never had Gilgamesh show up except for when he first appears.

Gilgamesh sucks.

ya i had the same experience. odin may not appear in boss fights but he always appears way more frequently than Gilgamesh who appeared a grand total of TWICE for me. and my luck was high BTW

you cant get seifer to rejoin you but i think you can get odin on disk four which means seifer wont kill odin.

Now that I think about it what happens if we acquire Odin before the Garden Battle?
Will Seifer kill Odin on GG?
I never tried myself so I am asking.

No, I've tried that. Doesn't work

Seifer must be real special to do that.
I think even Squall and the orphanage gang can all do this.
It´s just that they wanna Odin to help them so they do nothing.

I never understood this sequence. What happens, exactly?

I don't remember acquiring Odin until very late in the game, so I probably missed this in all my playthroughs. It doesn't sound like that great of a scene from what I can tell, anyway, though.

Has it ever occued to you that it may not have been Seifer who actually killed Odin. I always found it funny that Gilgamesh is waiting up in the clouds for the sword. It would make sense that Gilgamesh nailed Odin making it look as though Seifer did it. The only thing I can think of going against this theory is the fact that Gilgamesh says "you gave me the 4th". So i dunno...guess its another one of those unsolved ff mysteries.

Yeah, I think gilgamesh couldn't defeat odin maybe that's why he waited for someone to kill odin and when that time occurs he will steal odins zantetsuken sword.

Odin is a god....in Greek mythology. In FFVIII, he is a GF. You defeat several GFs in this game, so I don't really see the problem with Seifer defeating Odin.

Seifer has about 500 odd kills on my save. Go figure, he's obviously death-on-legs. Plus he can do reverse Zantesuken, Nekusetnaz!

If you guys didnt know...Odin appears in many of the FF games, and FF8 is definitely not the first one when he is killed by an enemy...and btw gilgamesh has 4 swords excalibur (king arthur?) excalipur (NOT excalipoor- bad translation), Zanetsuken (odin's sword..means something like evercutting steel or whatever) and MASAMUNE...YES ITS SEPHIROTH's SWORD FROM ff7!!!!

Why do you think Excalipoor is a bad translation? It's an obvious take off from Excalibur, but with "poor" at the end, because the move sucks. Makes sense to me...

iono...someone told me the original was excalipur..and tehn the english version it was excalipoor...it makes sense for me too though...(note: odin did look cooler when he was sitting on taht chair...i think gilgamesh looks weird...)

Makes sense to me.It only took about 1 HP which is really low for a special attack.

FFV translated Exaclipoor as Excalipur. I think thats what happened but I could be wrong. Thorne of Dravaris can confirm it. He knows alot about FFV. FFV also had Gilgamesh using the Excalipoor so its a clever reference.

Zantetsuken means "iron cutting sword" or "steel cutting sword". im not sure on which one
