Nowadays I get a lot of personal questions that are completely irrelevant.
For example : do you meditate ?
do you like cupcakes ?
do you watch porn ?/do you masturbate ?
You know ? It's stuff like that.

Well, I've got some questions for you.
-On a scale from 1 to 10, how sexy is Margaret Thatcher. With both 1 and 10 being extremely hot.
-Where were you when the titanic sank? They still haven't found the guilty one, you know.

People are always asking me personal questions. Usually about my hair. Either did you wash it last night or do you have 'beasties'. But then that carries in to my bathing habits and I just don't want to go there. They're stupid enough to believe that I believe they're being friendly, when they're sort of patronising me. Ask about my family and stuff. Are you a goth, or whatever. And then, is your brother. Is your dad. Had to explain that 'my dad's a P.E. Teacher. The two don't really fit together.'
'Oh. What does your mum do?'
'Archaeologist (sp?)'
'What?'
'ARCHAEOLOGIST!'
'What's that then?'
'They dig up old stuff.'
'So, does your mum have men legs? From using a shovel?'
...That's... pretty much how it went. But it's alright 'cause it's kinda funny. I'll get sick of it soon enough though.

Not really stupid, but could be phrased better, like using 'gender' instead, 'cos whenever I see that on a form, I always reply 'Yes please!' Plus, depending on the name, it's blatantly obvious whether someone is male or female, unless you have a name like mine, in which case you have to check. :D

That reminds me of a family gut episode- Peter tried to avoid paying medical bills by pretending to be dead. When filling out a form he said "OK, where it says 'Occupation', I'll say 'Dead', and where it says 'Sex', I'll say 'No thanks, I'm dead'."

Pssst. Combat Engineers...umm...very often, we see combat.
I could maybe understand it if you asked somebody that went over there as a contractor or something. But not a Soldier, that's just ignorant.

It's not stupid because they might not know my MOS, or the specific TF I supported, or what exactly I did. It's stupid because you just don't ask somebody that.

Yes, that is a stupid question to ask. It's entirely inconsiderate. I always just say no and walk away.

As much as I was fussy about this one, you're right. It is quite inconsiderate. I just wouldn't say stupid, unless somebody walks up and asks, but not from a friend. They might not think that you'll take it too badly.

That's true. Medics are just as likely to get shot (unless they were in a military hospital, although that would've made them doctors/surgeons, which may count as something else). I never said they weren't, just that they weren't as likely to have shot someone else.

True, but medics still carry weapons and engage in combat. I mean hell, our 3rd PLT medic was dual qualified, so he was an engineer AND a medic, and he was one of our M60 gunners. Medics might be less likely to engage in combat, but if their unit is confronted, they'll probably be in it like the rest of 'em until/unless somebody needs them.
