Here's a funny thing a friend send me, try it out. :)

MIND GAME

2% or 98%

This is strange...can you figure it out?

Are you the 2% or 98% of the population?

Follow the instructions! NO PEEKING AHEAD!

* Do the following exercise, guaranteed to raise an eyebrow.

* There's no trick or surprise.

* Just follow these instructions, and answer the questions one at a time and as quickly as you can!

* Again, as quickly as you can but don't advance until

you've done each of them ... really.

* Now, scroll down (but not too fast, you might miss something).

Think of a number from 1 to 10

Multiply that number by 9

If the number is a 2-digit number, add the digits together

Now subtract 5

Determine which letter in the alphabet corresponds to the number you ended up with

(example: 1=a, 2=b, 3=c,etc.)

Think of a country that starts with that letter

Remember the last letter of the name of that country

Think of the name of an animal that starts with that letter

Remember the last letter in the name of that animal

Think of the name of a fruit that starts with that letter

Are you thinking of a Kangaroo in Denmark eating an Orange?

I told you this was FREAKY!! If not, you're among the 2% of the population whose minds are different enough to think of something else. 98% of people will answer with kangaroos in Denmark when given this exercise

Err... no. I got an Iguana eating an apple in Djibouti. To be fair, I only thought of Djibouti cos I remembered someone else doing something like this, and the guy saying Djibouti. I really did think of Djibouti first, cos I'm weird like that.
It's not really that clever. Any number when multiplied by nine and added together and stuff is 9, 9 minus 5 is always 4, and D is always the 4th letter of the alphabet. It just relies on the fact that most people would think of Denmark before Djinouti and Kangaroo before Koala.

Cheetah eating a honeydew in the Dominican Republic. I don't know why Dominican Republic came to mind before Denmark did. =/

Yeah, I got the kangaroo denmark orange thing. But I think I remember doing this before. I thought denmark and then thought "wait, I think I am supposed to think denmark" But since that is what first popped in my head, I went with it.

I was more amazed until I realized that any number between 1 and 10 multiplied by 9 and then adding those two digits together is going to come up with 9. There's just no way around it!

Koala, apple?
Was I close, I almost thought kangaroo but then I kind of freaked because kangaroos scare me for some reason.

This reminds me of those pointless chain-emails you get.

"SEND TWO FIFTEEN PEOPLE OR U WILL DIE"

Oooo, the mystical powers of computer data.

I can explain the whole number thing

Obviously the answer is 4.

The whole equation (if we take the number 1~10 = n) would be:

9n(IF n>1 THEN 9n * 2) = xX (x being the first digit, X being the second)
x + X = Y (count x as zero if n = 1)
Y - 5 = Z
Z = 4

Basically it means the following:
Y = 9
Therefore x + X = 9

If you multiply a number by 9, it's equal to basically it's number multiplied by 10, minus itself.

9 = 9
18 = 1+8 = 9
27 = 2+7 = 9
36 = 3+6 = 9
45 = 4+5 = 9
54 = 5+4 = 9
63 = 6+3 = 9
72 = 7+2 = 9
81 = 8+1 = 9
90 = 9+0 = 9

Try the same with higher numbers in sequence, e.g. 11~20

99 = 18
108 = 9
117 = 9

etc. etc.

Basic mathematics really.

Then of course you've got the letter, which is always equal to D. In the entire world there's only four countries that begin with a D, which are:

Denmark
Djibouti
Dominica
Dominican Republic

Since most people don't know Djibouti, and usually won't quote the other two, Denmark is the first choice.

Denmark ends with a K, so that's most likely the next choice. K is a rarely used word in the english language, so chances of finding an animal beginning with K are slim. Kangaroo is a popular one due to it sounding like K as well. Koala sounds like a C, so people are less inclined to choose that one. I can't think of any other animals beginning with K.

Now Kangaroo ends with O. O is a much more common letter, a vowel infact, but it's not as used at the start of words as other letters are in comparison. Plus again there's not an awful lot of fruit that begin with O, or foods that people would consider fruit. Did you know Olives were technically fruits? Didn't think so.

So really it's not that great an achievement. If you had read my mind that was thinking a Koala eating an Apple in Denmark I'd have been impressed, but the large majority of people wouldn't.

Incidently this trick probably wouldn't work in other languages.
