I find that I play through an RPG steadily but once Im at the last level I leave the game and dont come back to it for ages. Im at the final boss on FFII, IV and ffV along with some other games and have absaloutely no intention of going back to finish them off. This seems odd even to me and Im the person whos doing this. I've been at the last level of FFIV for roughly three years or more.

I have the opposite problem. I'll play an RPG extensively, not be about 10% through, then leave it for like a few years sometimes. Xenogears, Fallout 2 and Morrowind were all victims of the "delay effect", and turned out to be games I ended up obsessing over.

I actually do the same thing. I run out of steam for the last level. Not because I'm afraid of the boss or anything, I just know that it's gonna be difficult to get through the final dungeon. I'm having this problem with FFX currently.
Also, don't let FFII's last dungeon decieve you, the difficulty plateaus on the 3rd floor of Pandaemonium, and it's not even that much worse than the Jade Passage. ;)

Maybe it has something to do with your subconcious? I know after I beat an RPG I always get a sad feeling like, "Man, that's over. Now what am I gonna do :( " It even overpowers the sense of accomplishment at beating the game. Maybe you don't finish them to avoid that?

In the case of Final Fantasy, yes. I only care about the story. I know how the thing will end, so I don't see the point in going through a bunch of battles just to see just another crappy ending. I'd finish a lot more of the FF series if they let you roam around the worlds after the final battle, basking in the glory of your victory and so on. But yeah, I'm the same, I never really finish games.

I would. Me and my friend made a list of games we have and the games we played. If we beat it we mark it with a red pen on the margin side. It's not a competition. Just to share stuff. I might make a thread so you guys can help me with tips on games I haven't beaten yet....

I know, but that's why I love and hate Final Fantasy.

By which I mean, Im certainly not emotionally attatched to FFII, IV or V.
I always get sad at that point and don't stop playing until I've beat it and then I go cry.

I wouldn't worry. I accidently completed the last dungeon of FFX when I sat on the controller whilst reading Empire.

My problem is going back through RPGs as they are long and not short. Since most of the story intrigue is gone since I know it, if I get distracted with another game then I never come back to the game...not until I start a new one and have the same thing happen.

I only do that rarely, and it's generally just because I really don't want a game to end. Two titles I can think of offhand are Golden Sun and The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker.

I have about the same problem. I guess I am afraid of loosing my pixielated frineds. Once you beat the game, they become just characters, and they do not the scource of interest you once had in them. Why beat the game when you know in the end, it will just be like saying goodbye. I am horrible with good byes.
Dramatics aside I am just too lazy.

I suffer from this ~ Final Fantasy VII and Shadow Hearts both turned out like that and I love those games. On the other hand, Final Fantasy IX is also in the same group...and I really haven't enjoyed that game.
In the case of VII though, theundeadmonkey's theory of loss certainly came into play for me. I really didn't *want* to finish that game.

I'm having that problem with Xenogears. But, I blame Disk 2. That is very boring. SLide shows are boring. Same thing with Digimon World 2, but anyone who has played this game will tell you that it is extremely sloooooooowwwwwwwww.

I did that with FF9, since my levels weren't high enough to defeat Necron. I've not played it much since abandoning that save file.
