Alright, most of us are fans of certain teams. But most of us also hate certain teams.

I'm a Chicago Bears fan. Oh yeah, that's right. Da Bers. Anyway... Being a Bears fan means I hate the Packers. It's pretty simple. Just like Red Sox and Yankees fans hate each other, just like Cubs and Brewers (and Cardinals) fans hate each other. Just like...well, any other team hates another team. I'm a Bears fan, which means I hate the Packers...not so much the fans, just the team.* And of course, I have to heckle the Packers fans, make fun of Green Bay, etc. etc. etc.

So, since I hate the Packers, I am LOVING this Green Bay - Carolina game. So far, it's 23-7 Panthers. The first couple plays of the game resulted in a Favre (Fav-ray ;) ) fumble and subsequent Carolina recovery and touchdown. After a good Packer drive and TD, Carolina got a Field Goal, another TD (missed Extra Point), and one more TD following a (BEAUTIFUL) strip by the Carolina defense.

So the question is...what teams do you hate, and why? I don't like the Packers because I'm a Bears fan...and that kinds rubs off onto the Vikings and Lions, just because they're in the same Division. And my girlfriend is a Vikings fan :D . I don't really like the Raiders, because they're a bunch of damn punk gangsters. And though I don't have a problem with the Eagles, I really don't like T. Owens. ... And I like a couple other teams, but that's kinda off-topic here. Because I say so.

...

*However. One of the Packers players just got hurt (that guy got smashed, I mean totally creamed) trying to return a kickoff that the primary receiver muffed. While I do hate the Packers and rejoice at their misfortune, I'm sure none of us (as in, Bears fans) would like to see any players hurt. I hope and pray that nothing here is too serious, and he recovers well and quickly.

I hate the Yankees. Maybe just because lots of people do, I dunno. I dislike the fact they're so rich, and how often they go to the playoffs and win and even win the World Series. It's like if Microsoft was a baseball team--they'd just spend enough money to insure they had the best players so they could always win. Seeing the Red Sox beat them last year was sweet, sweet victory, though I'm not even a Red Sox fan.

Murphy was conscious.

Well, being a Cowboys fan, I'm obligated to hate the following teams:

Washington
Philadelphia
New York Giants
San Francisco

And just because, I hate:

Green Bay
Oakland

Well, the Oakland thing goes back to my pure hatred for the A's in baseball.

I hate the Yankees, Mariners, and probably a few other teams.

In basketball, I hate the Lakers, Spurs, Rockets, and Kings.

I've always had a gripe against the Mets for what they did to the great Roberto Alomar, among others.

Also the Lakers.

I don't really have anything against any football teams, since they are always so different from year to year.

I don't like or dislike name-tags. I like/dislike teams based on players, coaches, and past games. I'll only talk about football here, since that's the professional sport which matters most.

My favorite teams are (respectively): Pittsburgh, Oakland, San Diego. I won't go into why, since that's for another thread. I used to like San Fransisco, because Steve Young and Jerry Rice were my favorite NFL players ever, but they've been gone from SF for a long time, and I can only continue to like a team solely based on a former player for so long. I also absolutely LOVED Miami for exactly one day last year. You can guess which day that was when you see what team tops my next list.

My least favorite teams are (respectively):

1. New England Patriots. Man, I hate the Patriots. Why, you ask? Because they didn't deserve their first Super Bowl win. Why? Because the so-called "tuck rule" is the most disgraceful thing ever made up by a ref. I was indifferent to New England before I saw that horrible call hand New England the win at the end of the game. I will probably continue to hate the Patriots until all the main players are gone, so it'll be a while.

2. Minnesota Vikings. Tice is an asshole, and I despised Moss when he played there. I hate them slightly less now, since Moss left and they're doing horribly as they deserve. I sort of chuckle and move on.

EDIT: Ok, I'll talk basketball too, which is the only other sport I really watch.

Likes: Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns. Both for the exact same reason: very entertaining to watch. <3 Dirk Nowitzki, Steve Nash, etc.

Dislikes: Detroit. That's about it.

I strongly strongly dislike and wish death upon the New York Jets. Nobody else really inspired such malice in me.

Good point. But remember, Red Sox have the 2nd highest payroll in all of baseball, so it ain't like they're that much different. Although it is GREAT to see the Yankees lose, always.

EDIT: eest -- Dolphins fan?

of course. Jets-Dolphins is a very bitter rivalry, and has been unfortunately onesided recently.

Baseball = Dodgers and Angels
Football = Rams, Cowboys, Eagles
Basketball = Lakers
Hockey = Avalanche
College football = Boise State

I... HATE the Dodgers and Angels. With every fiber of my being.

What did the Jets do?

I sorely lack perception in these rivalries. The only one that makes sense is the Detroit - Green Bay rivalry. A Cleveland - Baltimore rivalry would make sense, but that's exactly why none will ever happen.

The Chicago - Green Bay so-called rivalry doesn't make any sense either, other than that they're in the same division. But by that logic, every team should be a rival with every other team in that division.

It's only the fact that they've played each other for... oh, I don't know, 80 or so years?

Raistlin
10-04-2005, 04:30 AM
Pfft, but they haven't played each other in a game that mattered since, what, the 80s? Back when the Bears were dominating. 15-20 years is a long time to hold on to a dislike for a team.

EDIT: I've also never disliked a team solely because they beat a team I like. I dunno why; I've just never even considered it.

well the Jets and Dolphins play in the same division, and Miami is full of NYC transplants, so there's more connection between the two cities than between Miami and either Boston or Buffalo. Plus, recently the Jets won 8 straight matchups and like 10-12 or something. Plus there was that hoprrible game a few years ago where the dolphins were up by about 28 on MNF and the Jets scored 30 in the fourth quarter to come back and win.

Hahahahaha

I loved that game. That made me love Vinny for quite a while. My dad and I have an on-going MNF bet (for the past 5 or so years), and I took New York for that game. My step-dad was all "How could you! Miami just got off a bye! You always take the bye-team!" And them when Miami was up like 20-0 in the first quarter was all "Hah, I told you so!" and I was all ":mad:" and then when New York scored like 30 points in ONE QUARTER I was extremely happy and jumping around at like 1 AM.

EDIT: So yeah, that would be a good reason (along with the others you mentioned) to start a rivalry. :p

I hate sports, which means I hate football, which means I hate them all.

Something that really bugs the hell out of me though, is when people are a fan of a team simply because they happen to live in/near the city that said team represents. My roommate is from Pheonix, AZ and he's like that, just as Oklahomans seem to be with OU and OSU, but more OU (since they don't have any pro-teams they have to rely on college teams haha).

But I think what really drove me away from sports growing up and still does is the fans rather than the sports themselves...people get so obsessive, annoying, rude, nasty, and violent over whats supposed to be fun and entertaining. It's discusting.

But to each his own.

That's something I've never really understood either. There's no thought involved: you like the team given to you, and you dislike the team that used to/does beat your team a lot in the same division/conference/whatever.

Maybe it's because I moved around a lot as a kid, but I never favored the home team above all others simply because they're the home team. When I was a kid, I loved the '9ers, despite never having lived in California. Of course, if I went to a live home game, and it wasn't against a team I really liked (i.e., the '9ers), then I'd cheer for the home team. So I guess while I always liked the home team if I was able to go see their games, I never considered them my favorite team automatically.

I also don't dislike teams simply because they beat my favorite team a lot. Or because my team and that team has a "rivalry" going.

Manchester United the team is good but alot of the fans I hate. They are glory hogging people who have no right to call themselves football fans but By alot I don't mean all.

Since I support Newcaslte United I don't like Sunderland much but the only teams I really hate are Chelsea and Arsenal FC.

This UK football.

I don't like that sort of sports rivalry crap. It's either dumb- supporters of Sunderland FC (on the North East coast of England), for example, have a rivalry with the fans of Newcastle United (further up the coast), which made no sense, as Newcastle have been in the Premier League (the first division) for decades, while Sunderland spend most of their time in the first division (the second division- weird, I know, but football's weird...), occasionally doing well enough to spend a season in the PL. So, the teams only played a game about once or twice every four years. That said, that is a particularly dumb example.
Or really dumb the way the Glasgow Celtic/Rangers rivalry ahs got tied into sectarianism and the Northern Irish conflict. The rivalry sort of makes sense- they're two teams in the same division, in the same city, but it gets taken too far. Most of the fans are fine, but, eventually, some idiots will take it too far. Of course, that applies to any team, group, nation, church or tribe. It seems to be human nature, unfortuanately....

I just have an update for this. The Green Bay Packers lost (to the Cincinatti Bengals) their sixth game of the season today...out of the seven they've played so far. Next week, they'll play the Steelers, who are 4-2 now, and play Monday Night. So it's a good probability that they'll cross the halfway-mark with a 1-7 record. Being not only a Chicago Bears fan, but a Bears fan in the middle of Wisconsin, I couldn't be loving this more. Well, maybe I could ... there are 32 teams in the NFL. 29 of them are doing better than Green Bay, and the other two are tied with them.

And I think RSL is a Detroit Lions fan. :D Bears and Lions were both 3-3 this morning ... technically tied for 1st in the Division, but not really, because the Bears hadn't lost a game within the division, whereas the Lions had, which would put the Bears above the Lions. But either way ... they're not tied anymore. Bears are 4-3, which is the best in the NFC North.

So, to wrap it up. Bears are in 1st Place. Packers suck. The end.

Hate the Pats. But you know why, most of all? Because all the chicks my age love them. And do you know why? "OMG TOM BRADY IS SOOO HOT I WANT TO HAVE 10BAJILLION OF HIS BABIES OMG"

Football is not about how good looking the players are, you silly, silly women. Stay away from me.

Also hate Ohio State for college ball, but that's just rubbed off on me from Matt cause the rivalry between him and his parents for that AWESOME Ohio State/NCSU game a few years back was bitter.

Oh, and I can't forget Duke. Anything Duke does, I hate. Because I'm a Carolina girl.
