View Full Version : 2005 NPC Tournament winner revealed!

08-21-2005, 06:09 PM
Announcing the Final Fantasy NPC tournament 2005! Atfer the great success of the 2004 NPC tournament where Beatrix of ff9 defeated Rubicant of ff4, it is time to relive the glory in 2005! Due to some eligibility complications, Beatrix will not be defending her title, but we've got a full slate of baddies and goodies to battle it out.

We need a field of 64 NPCs, however I have 65 that have qualified to participate. Therefore we must have a play-in gmae to determine which of the final two qualifiers get to join the elite field of 64.

This year's play-in game pits X-2's Shinra against VII's Professor Gast. Vote for who gets to join and prepare for the full field to be set! You may vote based on perceived battle strength, perceived coolness, random coin toss, or any other method you prefer (except the rhythm method, who are you trying to fool?)

08-21-2005, 07:04 PM
shinra had a cool name but that was about it...

Del Murder
08-21-2005, 07:26 PM
Shinra knew math and told you all kinds of useful stuff!

08-21-2005, 08:04 PM
this is why these two were stuck in the play-in. Not so special.

08-21-2005, 08:32 PM
I did not even remember who Gast was when I first read this, so I voted for the stupid little spherebreak freak.

08-21-2005, 08:35 PM
Anyone from FFX-2 does not deserve it.

08-21-2005, 08:50 PM
Prof Gast is Aeris's father

08-21-2005, 08:59 PM
Shinra, totally. Especially after a certain discussion with Squall of seeD.

08-21-2005, 09:09 PM
Prof Gast is Aeris's father
Okay, so even after I thought I remembered who, I really didn't. Shucks.

I like the way that this is still tied up.

08-21-2005, 09:43 PM
X-2 doesn't exist.

08-21-2005, 11:14 PM
Prof Gast is Aeris's father
Okay, so even after I thought I remembered who, I really didn't. Shucks.
He's also the guy who lives up in icicle inn, except he's dead because someone off and killed him.

...Prof. Gast.

08-22-2005, 12:25 AM
Shinra has the higher RPI, but that's just because Gast is from a mid-major. I'll go with Gast.

08-22-2005, 12:34 AM
since this is the play-in game and noone really cares that much, and the winner faces...Hades, I think we can close this up in a little while, one hour from now. then I can post the first bracket after that.

08-22-2005, 12:44 AM
Go Prof. Gast! <3

08-22-2005, 01:01 AM
Looking like Gast has a lot more desire to participate...

08-22-2005, 01:35 AM
Ok, this starts the official tournament with Bracket A. Choose one from each pair in the poll.

08-22-2005, 01:39 AM
*votes for everyone bwahahahaha* (no, i didn't)

08-22-2005, 01:40 AM
you can do that if you want, but it doesn't accomplish much.

08-22-2005, 01:42 AM
Divisions B, D, F are in a heated and explosive struggle! I haven't seen action like this since the Dodgers had Eric Karros and Mike Piazza hitting back to back home runs against the St. Louis Cardinals on October 6, 1993 for a 3-1 win! < / vin_scully > :D

Behold the Void
08-22-2005, 01:42 AM
Go Olan! Galaxy Stop!

08-22-2005, 01:45 AM
Olan is awesome.

so is Neel.

08-22-2005, 02:01 AM
But Neel's not an option.

(All the higher seeds, except for the 3-14 and the 2-15)

08-22-2005, 02:05 AM
Don Corneo gets a vote for his kickin' wall market theme
Leblanc gets one because she's so friggin 'amusing xD
and Princess Hilda gets one for being impersonated so nicely by Q. Lamiax D

08-22-2005, 02:10 AM
Hojo owns Ovelia, although Ovelia is still cool.

Del Murder
08-22-2005, 02:41 AM
Hojo is one of my favorites. I hope he and Ultros do well in this division.

08-22-2005, 03:09 AM
Raine marries Laguna (the ultimate character) while Leblanc only gets Noojie-Woojie.

Come on people vote raine

08-22-2005, 04:09 AM
lol im outraged that Ultros didnt get a #1 seed.

08-22-2005, 05:13 AM
Ultros is cool, but he's not strong enough to be #1. Bahamut shouldn't really be a #1, since it's ff1 Bahamut, but he made the final four last year so I gave him the benefit of the doubt. And I guess if he can upgrade classes he could probably kick the crap out of Ultros too.

Besides, Ultros has a pretty easy path in the first two rounds.

08-22-2005, 10:27 AM
FFV : Cid OR bahumat should win.........

08-23-2005, 12:49 AM
I'll probably move to round two of this bracket later tonight, so get any last minute votes in now!

Del Murder
08-23-2005, 02:13 AM
*edits Hojo to have a million point lead*

08-23-2005, 03:00 AM
yea I think Hojo has this one wrapped up.

08-23-2005, 03:20 AM
So we have some winners in the first round of bracket A, and here are our compelling second round matchups:

1. Bahamut (I) vs. 9. Don Corneo (VII)
The class change master from the old school master meets up with the crazy pimpin Rapps star of the PS king daddy. This one could go either way.

5. Olan (T) vs. 4. Raine (VIII)
The only one who knows the truth faces off against Raine. I;ve never played ff8 so I have no clue what Raine does. I think Raine is Squall's dad, or mom, or something. Anyway, go Olan!

6. Ultros (VI) vs. 14. Cid (X)
The grand master of the 2005 EoFF elections and all around awesome octopus buddy Uncle Ulty meets up with our big upset winner of the bracket, the ubiquitous Cid in his FFX incarnation. What? I'm just a stupid octopus?

7. Namingway (IV) vs. 2. Hojo (VII)
Easily the weirdest moon man ever thinks his opponent Hojo should change his name to TifaLuvr6969. Hojo thinks Namingway should shut up and change his own name to YellowGreenBlueXXII.

Vote for one in each group of two, and may the best NPCs advance!

08-23-2005, 03:21 AM
Nice job there, eest.

08-23-2005, 03:35 AM
eestlinc is made of glass? *votes*

08-23-2005, 03:36 AM
vote Olan!

08-23-2005, 03:38 AM
vote Olan!
Yay! Go Olan! :D

08-23-2005, 04:01 AM
Wow, Corneo is shooting for a major upset here.

08-23-2005, 04:24 AM
Bahamut, Olan, and Ultros. And Hojo, who never intentionally took steroids.

08-23-2005, 04:42 AM
Corneo upsetting the highly overrated Bahamut (I) would be fine by me.

08-23-2005, 07:55 PM
Hmm, I can't believe I missed voting in the first few rounds. I guess that's what the start of a new semester at school will do to you, though.

::votes for this round::

08-25-2005, 05:19 AM
Bahamut is pulling ahead slightly...can he hold off Don Corneo for another few hours?

08-25-2005, 08:23 PM
Hah. Broke the Bahamut/Don Corneo tie. :D

08-25-2005, 08:52 PM
excellent, now to move to round 3 of this bracket!

08-25-2005, 09:01 PM
After some tight battles and one big upset, we move on to round 3 of the first bracket. Here's our matchups:

9. Don Corneo (VII) vs. 5. Olan (T)
After ekeing out a 9-8 upset over topseeded Bahamut (I), our favorite slum lord faces off against the master astrologer Olan and his Galaxy Stop attack. Olan dispatched Raine (VIII) without too much trouble, winning 11-7.

6. Ultros (VI) vs. 2. Hojo (VII)
Lovable cephalopod Ultros completely dominated Cid (X) in round two, winning 15-2. Now he faces the crazed doctor and beach bum Hojo in what should be a premier matchup in the tournament. Hojo was victorious over Namingway (IV) 13-6.

08-26-2005, 01:52 AM
*Waves Hojo flag* Woot! Hojo for the win!

08-26-2005, 01:58 AM
Olan and Hojo.

08-26-2005, 03:45 AM
anyone who voted for Corneo over Olan obviously hasn't played Tactics.

Del Murder
08-26-2005, 03:55 AM
Hojo vs. Ultros is a pretty big matchup for this early in the game. Should be a good one!

08-26-2005, 11:29 AM
I like Hojo, i voted for him in all the other rounds, but i also like ultros, voted him all the way to. HEad spinning, loyalties breaking, Asprin disapearing.

Ultros! I love You!

Ultima Shadow
08-26-2005, 01:56 PM
If Hojo wins, Uncle Ulty will be very sad. :(

08-28-2005, 05:14 PM
Wow, we have an all ff7 matchup in the finals of Bracket A:

9. Don Corneo (VII) vs. 2. Hojo (VII)
Don Corneo pulls off another improbable upset over Olan 11-7. His reward is facing the lovely Hojo who barely eked out a victory against the very popular Ultros 11-10. Who will represent Bracket A in the final four?

I hate coming into this thread...

Anyway, Hojo for the win.

Let's see. Mad scientist who's the real reason behind all the bad stuff happening in the game and who mutates his wife, son, several townspeople and random furry animals, is willing to commandere a giant cannon, hangs about with loads of chicks on a beach, and injects himself with his own crazy experimental fluids!

Against a man who has a thing for transvestites and is a complete arse...

Like you need ask.

08-29-2005, 03:33 PM
This doesn't look like a victory so much as a massacre

I am filling in for eestlinc while he is on vacation this week. We're ending this round because it has been brutal.

Results from bracket A final:

9. Don Corneo (VII) - 1
2. Hojo (VII) - 12

The scientist wins in a massacre.

Ok on to bracket B! Vote for one name in each pair.

1. Hades (IX) vs.
16. Professor Gast (VII)

8. Desh (III) vs.
9. Ellone (VIII)

5. Rin (X) vs.
12. Queen Remedi (TA)

4. Gippal (X-2) vs.
13. Bikke (I)

6. Aldo (XI) vs.
11. Zalbag (T)

3. Reno (VII) vs.
14. Daryl (VI)

7. Robot (I) vs.
10. Nelly (II)

2. Rubicant (IV) vs.
15. Gogo (V)

08-31-2005, 06:36 AM
The 1-16 is actually my most difficult pick. I'm going to defy the seedings and take Gast.

As for the rest, I'll go with Desh, Rin, Bikke, Zalbag, Reno, Robot, and Rubicant.

Round 2

16. Professor Gast (VII) vs.
9. Ellone (VIII)

13. Bikke (I)

11. Zalbag (T) vs.
3. Reno (VII)

7. Robot (I) vs.
2. Rubicant (IV)

09-03-2005, 05:48 AM
Gast, Rin, Zalbag, and Rubicant. Easy choices.

09-03-2005, 05:50 AM
Gast, Bikke, Reno and Robot. I say Robot for the win.

09-03-2005, 06:39 AM
I think it'd be best if Ellone and Gast choked each other to death in a double suicide.

Black Mage
09-03-2005, 06:49 AM
After losing both Gogo and Desh, all we've got left is Bikke and Zalbag. That better be the finals.

B. 5. Rin (X) - 6
B. 13. Bikke (I) - 9

C. 11. Zalbag (T) - 3
C. 3. Reno (VII) - 12

D. 7. Robot (I) - 6
D. 2. Rubicant (IV) - 9

Time for round 3:

16. Professor Gast (VII) vs.
13. Bikke (I)

Professor Gast tries to continue his improbable run as the lower seeds continue to dominate.

3. Reno (VII) vs.
2. Rubicant (IV)

A pretty good matchup of quality NPCs. Rubi has the FFVII bias to get over now. 'Allow me to heal you before we fight, Reno.'

My goodness, the doctor is winning. How I hate him.

09-07-2005, 10:02 PM
Well, Looks like Professor Gast continues his improbable run to face Reno in an all ff7 matchup in the finals of Bracket B. Who will advance to the final four to meet up with Hojo????

09-07-2005, 10:30 PM
I prefer reno but it has to be Gast vs. Hojo, it just has to be.

09-07-2005, 11:10 PM
This is all about Professor Gast.

09-08-2005, 05:35 AM
The face-off of professors is a lame thing to aim for when you're simply talking about the aceness of characters. Reno am win.

09-09-2005, 01:21 AM
Reno shall fall, maby not to ghast, but to the almighty hojo!

09-09-2005, 09:54 PM
defnitely looks like Reno will advance to the final four. I'll put up the next bracket this evening.

09-10-2005, 03:02 AM
Professor Gast! You were too good for this world!

Del Murder

Wow, I never expected the FFVII characters to be so popular. They will all fall before the mighty Gilgamesh, though.

09-10-2005, 11:36 PM
So Reno vanquished Professor Gast 14-3 to advance to the final four out of Bracket B. Now, on with Bracket C!!!

1. Golbez (IV)
16. Arylon (I)
The evil adversary of FF4 meets the evil...um...dancing villager...of FF1. Both have the ability to make men do their bidding.

8. Llednar (TA)
9. Princess Sara (III)
I have no idea who Llednar is, but he sounds elvish or something. Princess Sara however is the hot red dominatrix of 8-bit fame.

5. Quan (IX)
12. Dr Unne (I)
All I can say is this would be a very strange matchup on Celebrity Death Match.

4. Lion (XI)
13. Fujin (VIII)
I don't even know who either of these two are.

6. Buddy (X-2)
11. Erin (IX)
Erin flies the airship.

3. Vormav (T)
14. Yang's Wife (IV)
One is crazy and kills lots of people and then turns into a devil. The other gives you a frying pan and a spoon.

7. Rufus (VII)
10. Guido (V)
Rufus doesn't do much of anything except get his ass kicked, and Guido is a ninja turtle. Still, Rufus will probably win just because OMG FF7 IS TEH BESTES!

2. Jecht (X)
15. Katarin (VI)
Jecht does stuff, I guess. Katarin singlehandedly repopulates the town of Mobliz. You be the judge.

09-11-2005, 12:08 AM
Wow, more characters I've never heard of before.

While I dislike ff4, I wouldn't mind seeing YANG'S WIFE going a long ways.

09-11-2005, 12:21 AM
Wow, more characters I've never heard of before.
What? You've never heard of Dr Unne?

09-11-2005, 12:26 AM

Other than that, my votes go to Golbez, Princess Sara, Dr Unne, Fujin, Erin, Guido, and Jecht. There.

09-11-2005, 12:59 AM
Arlyon (Total hotness), Llendar (Only cool character of FFTA besides Cid and Ezel), Quan (Qus rule), Fujin (Never heard of Lion), Buddy (Because I had to choose one), Yang's Wife (Frying Pans rule), Rufus (Uber cool villian), Jecht (Cooler than Katrina).

09-11-2005, 01:03 AM
I want Fuijin to win- no one else only talks in capitals (except of course when she tells seifer off).

09-11-2005, 01:39 AM
Wow, more characters I've never heard of before.
What? You've never heard of Dr Unne?
The google ads' presence on this page disappoints me.

09-11-2005, 01:58 AM
Let's see...

Golbez, Princess Sara, Dr Unne, Fujin, Buddy, Vormav, Rufus, and Jecht.

09-11-2005, 03:04 AM
I say JEcht, one of the only characters i really liked from X

09-11-2005, 03:50 AM
Wow, no one likes the pregnant teenager.

09-11-2005, 06:55 AM
I actually thought that was the best match.

09-11-2005, 06:55 PM
Quan must pull ahead, cool frog dude rocks. Must, become, frog, *twitch*

09-12-2005, 03:17 AM
we have two ties! need more votes!

09-12-2005, 03:37 AM
To all you silly people who've never played FFXI before this is Lion:

She is the daughter of a Pirate King. A PIRATE KING! She swashes and buckles. Y'all should vote for her.

09-12-2005, 11:22 PM
Some close ones, some runaways in round 1.

Here's round 2:

1. Golbez (IV) vs 9. Princess Sara (IX)
Golbez made quick work of Arylon 10-2, while Princess Sara knocked out Llednar 7-4. This is a good matchup of crazy old school FF outfits. Both of them would feel at home in a goth club.

12. Dr Unne (I) vs 13. Fujin (VIII)
Both underdogs won the first round, with Dr Unne edging out Quan 7-6 and Fujin crushing Lion 9-3. I'm sure they will produce an exciting round 2 matchup.

11. Erin (IX) vs 14. Yang's Wife (IV)
Another pair of upsets as Erin barely defeats Buddy 6-5 and Yang's Wife thoroughly embarrasses Vormav 9-3. Yang's Wife is more popular and also more silly, but Erin has that oglop magic and a sailor suit.

7. Rufus (VII) vs Jecht (X)
Rufus flipped Guido on his shell and won 8-4. He'll face a tough challenge in Jecht who easily dispatched Katarin 10-2.

09-12-2005, 11:34 PM
Let's see...

Golbez, Dr Unne, Erin, and Rufus.

09-13-2005, 12:11 AM
Sara, Fujin, Erin, Rufus.

09-13-2005, 03:38 AM
I say Golbez, Dr. Unne, YAngs wife and Jecht,

09-15-2005, 05:04 AM
you have twelve hours or so until I break the tie.

09-16-2005, 01:46 AM
We had some close battles and now we have four who have emerged to battle out in the next round of Bracket C:

1. Golbez (IV) vs 12. Dr Unne (I)
Golbez handles the firecracker Princess Sara 10-5 to move on and face the underdoctor himself, Dr Unne, who barely eked out a victory over Fujin 7-6. Go moon man!

11. Erin (IX) vs 7. Rufus (VII)
Erin slid past the late surge of Yang's Wife for a 7-6 victory. Her reward is a matchup with the President of ShinRa himself, ol boy Rufus, fresh off his 12-6 trouncing of Jecht . FF7 characters seem to have the upper hand in the tournament this year. Can Erin stem the tide?

09-16-2005, 01:52 AM
Golbez-Dr Unne makes for a difficult choice. I'll go with Golbez.

Rufus is an easy choice for the other match.

09-16-2005, 02:12 AM

Golbez handled Dr Unne with relative 8-4 ease. Rufus took his ff7 handicap and had a relatively weak showing against Erin, winning 9-6. Now the question is whether Golbez can prevent the third straight ff7 character advancing to the final four.

09-18-2005, 07:34 PM
We need golbez, we at least need one non ff7 in the final rounds

Del Murder
09-19-2005, 05:51 AM
I love Rufus but I agree. Finding out that he was being controlled by Zemus sort of ruined his character.

09-19-2005, 03:32 PM
shut up moon man!

09-20-2005, 12:12 PM
Go Golbez! Go Golbez! *waves her cheerleader pompoms around*

09-20-2005, 03:55 PM
Go Golbez! Go Golbez! *waves her cheerleader pompoms around*

So, my fellow comrade in golbez's struggle is a cheerleader, *sigh* what a mad mad world we live in :(

Black Mage
09-20-2005, 04:12 PM
Golbez. Cannot. Lose.

09-21-2005, 12:23 AM
Go Golbez! Go Golbez! *waves her cheerleader pompoms around*

So, my fellow comrade in golbez's struggle is a cheerleader, *sigh* what a mad mad world we live in :(

Well, not really. Just happy that he MIGHT actually beat Rufus.

09-21-2005, 01:18 AM
So Golbez has vanquished the mighty Rufus 9-7 and prevented the total dominance of ff7 characters. Now for the final bracket! It's a good one...

1. Delita (T) vs 16. Dorga (III)
The great NPC of Tactics flows against the big tide. Dorga doesn't do much of anything.

8. Yunalesca (X) vs 9. Nooj (X-2)
I got nothing on this one.

5. Gatta (X) vs 12. NORG (VIII)
Don't even know who these characters are, but they face each other.

4. Siegfried (VI) vs 13. The Invisible NPC (I)
This is quite an interesting matchup. Siegfried tantalizes us with his untapped potential, while the invisible NPC probably would be difficult to defeat considering she's invisible.

6. Balmafula (T) vs 11. Dr Lugae (IV)
Wouldn't it be great if Balmafula advanced all the way to face Delita? She does know the truth, after all. Dr Lugae reminds me of snot.

3. Gilgamesh (V) vs 14. Nono (TA)
Man this bracket is stacked. Gilgamesh for the win?

7. Lani (IX) vs 10. Archduke Kam'lanaut (XI)
No character from XI has wona single matchup. Lani seeks to continue that trend.

2. Paul (II) vs 15. Palmer (VII)
Woohoo, Paul! Palmer has a dedicated following, though.

09-21-2005, 01:34 AM
Dorga, Yunalesca, NORG, Siegfried, Balmafula, Gilgamesh, Lani, and Palmer.

Palmer vs. Paul was difficult. As cool as Paul is, though, Palmer gets hit by a truck. C'mon.

If we end up seeing a Siegfried-Gilgamesh final for this bracket, I'll be happy.

09-21-2005, 01:36 AM

09-21-2005, 01:39 AM
Yeah. It's not really about Dorga; I just don't like Delita. It doesn't really matter, though, since Dorga has virtually no chance of winning this round.

Del Murder
09-21-2005, 03:11 AM
Gilgamesh should win this one.

09-21-2005, 03:16 AM
Gilgamesh WILL win this one
I mean who can resist a 1 with Excalipur?

Black Mage
09-21-2005, 03:20 AM
I will say it now.

If Gilgamesh (V) does not win this tournament in its entirety, I will not be held responsible for my own actions.

09-21-2005, 06:18 AM
I'm rooting for the invisible npc.

Captain Maxx Power
09-21-2005, 11:47 AM
Those numbers seriously don't add up so far.

09-22-2005, 12:09 AM
Gilgamesh had better win this round.

09-22-2005, 07:52 PM
Those numbers seriously don't add up so far. :confused:People don't have to vote for every pairing. It's not like the poll forces you to. It's appreciated, however.

Go, Gilgy.

09-22-2005, 08:41 PM
winners of round 1 of bracket D:

1. Delita over 16. Dorga 11-6
8. Yunalesca over 9. Nooj 12-3
12. NORG over 5. Gatta 13-1
4. Siegfried over 13. Invisible NPC 8-7
11. Dr Lugae over 6. Balmafula 8-7
3. Gilgamesh over 14. Nono 16-0 (CRUSHING!)
7. Lani over 10. Archduke K 14-1
15. Palmer over 2. Paul 10-5

so the next round:

1. Delita (T) vs 8. Yunalesca (X)

12. NORG (VIII) vs 4. Siegfried (VI)

11. Dr Lugae (IV) vs 3. Gilgamesh (V)

7. Lani (IX) vs 15. Palmer (VII)

vote on!

09-22-2005, 09:30 PM
Wow, as much as I dislike Delita, I'll take him over Yunalesca.

Delita, Siegfried, Gilgamesh, and Palmer.

I foresee another CRUSHING! victory for Gilgamesh. At least that should be what happens.

09-22-2005, 09:46 PM
Yunalesca, Siegfried, Gilgamesh and Lani.

09-23-2005, 04:16 AM
Wow, two 5 -0's, this is stacked

Black Mage
09-23-2005, 02:48 PM
Wow, this is the first time everyone I voted for is winning.

Keep up the good work, forum.

09-23-2005, 06:08 PM
I want Palmer to win, simply because it would amuse me to see a third humiliating defeat given out by Gilgamesh in a row

09-25-2005, 01:06 AM
none of these were close in round 2:

1. Delita over 8. Yunalesca 8-3
4. Siegfried over 12. NORG 10-1
3. Gilgamesh over 11. Dr Lugae 11-0 (crushing!)
7. Lani over 15. Palmer 9-2

so for round three:

1. Delita vs 4. Siegfried
This is a very good matchup.

3. Gilgamesh vs 7. Lani
Can Gilgamesh win three straight shutouts?

09-25-2005, 01:12 AM
I like Delita, but Seigfried is just too awesome. I'll vote Gilgamesh too.

09-25-2005, 01:33 AM
If we end up seeing a Siegfried-Gilgamesh final for this bracket, I'll be happy.

Also, I hope to see Gilgamesh throw another shutout here.

09-25-2005, 09:44 PM
Gilgamesh GO.

09-26-2005, 12:33 AM
Delita and Siegfried are duking it out. Lani at least got on the board.

09-26-2005, 10:37 PM
Wow, that many Delita Fans. Im pullin for my boy Siegfried.

09-27-2005, 01:24 AM
Delita is strong, though.

09-27-2005, 02:28 AM
GO Lani (IX)!!! Argh!

09-28-2005, 04:38 AM
Siegfried defeats Delita 9-7
Gilgamesh defeats Lani 12-6

So the final spot in the final four will be decided now:

4. Siegfried (VI) vs 3. Gilgamesh (V)
megadrive vs excalipur.

09-29-2005, 07:51 AM
I was going to vote for Gilgamesh, but I'll vote for Siegfried simply so he gets a vote. He's certainly more deserving than Lani.

09-29-2005, 11:45 PM
*hums Clash on the Big Bridge*

09-30-2005, 04:02 AM
so anyone think Gilgamesh won't win this round?

Go, go, go Gilgy!!!

10-02-2005, 01:12 AM
Vote for Gilg! :exdee:

10-03-2005, 03:58 AM
Wow, Gilgamesh dominated again, defeating the overmatched Siegfried 18-3 to advance to the Final Four. Here's where we are now, with two great matchups that could each go either way:

2. Hojo (VII) vs 3. Reno (VII)
A matchup of two powerful enemies from ff7, you get the mad doctor against the attitudinous Turk. Either one could pull out the victory and advance to the final matchup.

1. Golbez (IV) vs 3. Gilgamesh (V)
Battle of the Big Gs pits the pseudo-evil moon baby against the four-armed H(N-zone)IC. Definitely a matchup worthy of the final four.

10-03-2005, 09:25 AM
So, we have a final between an FFVII character and Gilgamesh. Should be interesting.

Hojo and the man with the Excalipur.

Why are there two #3 seeds? Or is that their original seed?

10-04-2005, 04:05 AM
original seed in their bracket. the fact that the other two seeds are 1 and 2 is purely coincidental.

Gilgamesh Vs Golbez?

Sounds more like a finals match up to me.

10-06-2005, 05:16 PM
I'll break this tie tonight unless someone else breaks it first.

10-06-2005, 05:26 PM
Tie broken.

10-06-2005, 06:18 PM
Wow, an amazing Final Four:

Reno triumphs in the epic battle with Hojo, winning 9-8.

Gilgamesh made quick work of Golbez, 13-4.

So now, your NPC 2005 championship match, to join Beatrix in the NPC hall of fame:

Reno (VII) vs Gilgamesh (V)
A dream matchup? The most popular NPC from the most popular FF game faces off with one of the most famous of all NPCs ever. A clash of the titans. Touph Ring vs Excalipur. Four Eyes vs Four Arms. Many battles filled with witty banter vs Many battles filled with witty banter.

10-06-2005, 10:40 PM
Let's go Reno!!!

10-06-2005, 10:55 PM
Nice to see my vote put Reno ahead of Hojo.

Reno to win! Why? "...because it's our job"

10-06-2005, 11:24 PM
Ahhh! No! My poor Gilgamesh...you must win!

10-07-2005, 12:55 AM

10-07-2005, 02:21 AM
Black Mage there speaks the utter truth.

10-07-2005, 06:03 PM
I was going to vote for Gilgamesh, but Black Mage's rhetoric is so needlessly vitriolic that I'm going to vote for Reno instead. Yeah.

10-07-2005, 10:11 PM
No! WHy hojo? why!!!
Either way my vote would have gone to Gilgamesh, but thats not the point

10-08-2005, 02:38 AM
End the Vote! End the Vote! End the Vote!

Reno's winning!!!

*bounces up and down in excitement*

Admittedly I never did get very far in FF5. But a summon (I assume) can't have much character- anyone have a good explanation of Gilgamesh, does it have more character than reno's awesomeness?

10-08-2005, 03:00 AM
In V, Gilgamesh was an enemy. He was pretty ruthless, but had some wierd lines. You end up fighting him about five times, I think. In the end all he is really doing is enjoying life by fighting you over and over agian.

Del Murder
10-08-2005, 07:44 PM
Reno is cool, but Gilgamesh is the best sub-villain ever.

10-08-2005, 08:48 PM
Gilgamesh is a hero because he tries so hard to do good work for his boss, but his own ineptitude causes him to fall further and further out of favor.

He's a mirror for our own failings in life.

Plus, he's got the best boss battle music ever. Clash on the Big Bridge = <3

10-08-2005, 11:32 PM
let's keep this open longer. If it works for the House of Representatives, it works for me.

10-08-2005, 11:39 PM
I never got very far in FFV, so I'll have to go with Reno.

10-09-2005, 12:27 AM

10-10-2005, 10:56 PM
