Didn't Nobuo Uematsu compose almost all of the FFs, aside from FFX-2 and maybe the first couple of games?

Yoko Shimomura and yasunori mitsuda both did great jobs on legend of mana, and chrono cross, respectively

Uematsu was always there since the very first game. He recently resigned Square-Enix, but didn't exclude some non-exclusive collaboration for the future. I cross my fingers because I don't know if without him and Sakaguchi it can still be called Final Fantasy...

As far as I know, Sakaguchi hasn't played much of a role in the FF series since FF9, and I thought FF10 was great so I've got hope. There's always the chance that Uematsu will work with Square in the future, but I think it's a good thing to have newer guys taking over the series. It hopefully means the games will change for the better as a result of new blood. Heck, it worked for FF6.

Nobuo Uematsu's role with FF music has taken more of an overseer approach nowadays, especially with the newest games. But then that is kind of expected considering the fact that Mr. Uematsu left Square-Enix some time ago to start his own music-based business.
