(Scratch that previous post. I found some webspace. :D)

Well, a few weeks ago I got a new piano. My first actual piano. Until this
point I've been playing on crappy weightless keyed keyboards that are
missing octaves and have horribly synthesized sounds. But that's all
changed. So I've been improvising like crazy, an hour a day usually, on my
new piano, but I realized I haven't played some of the old songs that I
used to play on my keyboards in quite some time. With the acception of
Find Your Way, I've been improvising on that theme a little bit, mostly
just using the bass line and playing some licks in A minor.

Anyway, I grabbed my microphone and hooked it up to my mom's laptop
and got it going. It's pretty soft so you'll have to turn your sound up,
and it cuts out every couple minutes (usually at important parts) but only
for like half a second. Just enough so that you miss like 1 note and it sets
the timing all off. :p

It starts with The Nightmare's Beginning, followed by Find Your Way,
To Zanarkand, and finally Ahead on Our Way from the FFV piano collections
(first PC song I learned). Ahead is sort of...rough though. The piano is
old and some of the keys are sticky, so some of the bass lines get
a little empty, but for the most part I guess it came out alright.

Anyway, here it is, all one take and it's about 10 and a half minutes long.

Feedback appreciated...hope you like it. :)

I'll be listening to this later. I can't wait to hear it.

Eh, it's sort of hurt, but I think it's alright. I'm in a violent mood but my
hands won't move fast enough to play violently. :p

Thanks to those of you who've replied. :D

If you record with the piano lid open, you'll get a louder sound.

It's fun recording piano music isn't it? :D

[edit-- very nice dynamics and little improv touches ^_^ I could definitely hear the bass drop out of to zanarkand, gave it a strange uppanoctave feel. I didn't realize that one song was from ff8, but it's one I like really well ^_^

Also, when recording, you can start over at measures, and then crop out the stuff with an audio editing program:) Makes for a lot cleaner music]

Aha, thanks for the tips Rubah. I'll probably do the starting over at measures
thing if I record anything again, but I also like the idea of something being
unedited, so it all depends on how well I play. :P

Fantastic work. Very nicely done.

In particular Find Your Way, and To Zanarkand are great.

well, unedited is all good and fine, but if you're like me, you find yourseld unable to play well at all when you know the microphone is picking up everything you do xD

(I was trying to record and I had to try the opening to suteki da ne what felt like TWENTY times before I could play it again-.-)

Haha, yeah, I noticed that happening. I'd start thinking too much but then
I found that if I just had my eyes closed or looked away from the keys
and at the wall or something, I would just start playing from muscle
memory. It's true though, I had to start over like 5 times because I was
so off on The Nightmare's Beginning...which isn't even that difficult a song
unless you play it quickly. :D

How long have you been playing?

Took lessons for about 5 months 4 years ago but I didn't really like it. So
I learned Fur Elise on my own and quit the lessons, then I stopped playing
for a while until I felt like learning To Zanarkand. Stopped playing again
and eventually got real into it about a year and a half ago, soon after that
I got a decent (well, crappy, but much better than my first) keyboard.

So technically I started playing 4 years ago, but I've been actually playing
for about 1.5-2 years.
