I just have a couple of suggestions you could consider.....

1, Spellcheck in the reply boxes...... most peoples typing is terrible *slowly raises hand* and is sometimes kinda hard to understand.

2, If your gonna put buttons like "pwn" in a forum that is used by a huge amount of different people it would be best to give it a description in PLAIN ENGLISH, or at least say what the bloody thing does, then people know what the hell it is...

we've had spellcheck in the past, but most people don't use it, and it doesn't work very well when you are discussing proper nouns that aren't in the dictionary.

The pwn thing is one of those jokes the admins like to play from time to time.

Did the spellcheck even work? When I joined way back when, the button didn't even work.

not that I know of, but it might have worked at some point in the distant past, maybe. we have the option of incorporating IE-based spellcheck into vB3.5, but I don't think we are going to.

I'm pretty sure spellcheck hasn't worked at any time in the past 5 years.

I think Unne broke it.

If spellcheck had ever worked I wouldn't be mocked nearly as much. Not for that at least.

Though the "page that spells out every joke and makes them unfunny" sounds like a good idea. I mean, jokes suck anyway.

What actually does the spellchecking though?

I think it's better to not allow spellchecking as part of the forums - it helps you to gauge the level of intelligence of the poster by seeing their post uncorrected if it needs fixing somehow :monster:

Hmm...IEspell would suck (and by suck, I mean "be nonexistant") for FireFox users. It may be possible to use pspell/aspell or a database driven dictionary...but it's almost completely more trouble than it's worth.

If anyone cares about spelling that much (which is a good idea) they should just copy and paste their posts into a wordprocessor and spellcheck there. :p

Yeah, I mean, if we had spellcheck we might think that Shlup's smart.

krissy would still be cool, though. :)

EDIT: in reply to clout.

Unless you use Linux, in which case, it's likely called OpenOffice. :D (or if you use the Win32 port of OpenOffice :) )

Or you could just do something crazy and actually learn how to spell the words you type.

Actually most peoples spelling is fine, they just need to work on their typing

If there was spellcheck, then posts made by people like ff_babe wouldn't be as funny and we'd all be sad. :( I mean, would you rather have:

I h8 u super delete, i signed up for this for you and u sed u were my friend, why do u always riun my f*king threads, now i have to make a new one and then u'll delete that, i h8 u!

or...

I hate you Super Delete, I signed up for this for you and you said you were my friend, why do you always ruin my smurfing threads, now I have to make a new one and then you'll delete that, I hate you!

That?

Just because there's spellcheck doesn't mean that people would actually use it. I mean, just look at Livejournal.

we could just swear filter every typo possible to the correct spelling. or, we could replace all of you with robots that type with 100% accuracy.
