View Full Version : "You win the internet"

Denmark

another thread? odd.

What's up with people saying that someone else has "won the internet"? Is this just some new nonsensical saying to pass on the message that someone did something cool? I mean, wtf. The internet is not a game, or a sport, or any sort of competition. Nor is it a prize. You can't win the internet.

I propose a boycott. Like I've done with Sudoku. But this thread is about winning the internet. Neel's thread is about Sudoku.

Denmark. :( You're being a stick in the butt. ;___; I LIKE telling people that the win at the internets. People are not encouraged enough and it makes people feel happy when they win at the internets. It's POSITIVE.

Honestly, I think it's overused and is just annoying. If I saw it every six months when I read something so hilarious I was rolling on the ground gasping for air, it'd be appropriate. As it is, I see it everyday, practically, and it's just one of those sayings that's lost any worth.

Denmark

come up with something more creative.

and on that note, bad things can be something other than "like the shinra".

EDIT: i heart you azar HEY THERE'S ANOTHER ONE!

Nice try Denmark, but I'm still the reigning champion. I've won the internet at least fifteen times today, whereas you'd be lucky to clock in once.

Fail.

Rye
10-18-2005, 01:25 AM
Not necessarily, Denmark does win at the internets for telling me about citiots and The Dresden Dolls. So, congrats Denmark~

PS: Like the shinra is good because it's EoFF/EoFF member specific so you can escape it if you dislike it, but it's funny. :)

Denmark

Yes, let's not be creative and come up with something unique every time we say anything, instead let's limit our vernacular to those things that someone else came up with! <3

I thought I was a pain in the ass... *Pets rye*

And I never heard that saying. All I heard is "You won the thread"...

I have to agree with Azar. YES I HAVE TO.

Usually I don't really mind these kinda sayings, but there's something about this one that's blegh. I don't know.

But eh, whatever. I don't really care. BLEJTRISDJFSE

Denmark

well, by agreeing with Azar you agree with me and that's cool. :)

Rye

So, can I say that they have "achieved the world wide web"? Because I don't think anyone says that. :)?

"Win at the internets" remains~

No.

"Accomplished" I might give a second thought and still say no to. You're trying, though. that's good.

Winning the Internet usually means you did something that someone liked. So they would say, "OMFG, YOU WON THE INTERNET" for something you have done that they liked.

It's like saying, "That was awesome" or "xD". It's just a response.

Denmark
10-18-2005, 01:53 AM
but "you win the internet" is trite. "that was awesome" is not a phrase, it's a statement. and "xD" is a smiley.

Let σ − i be a mixed strategy profile of all players except for player i. We can define a best response correspondence for player i, bi. bi is relation from the set of all probability distributions over opponent player profiles to a set of player i's strategies, such that each element of bi(σ − i) is a best response to σ − i. Define http://en.wikipedia.org/math/98875e4e902febea50bf90e75704079a.png One can use the Kakutani fixed point theorem to prove that b has a fixed point. That is, there is a σ * such that http://en.wikipedia.org/math/705cd113be830f75394d2c60404db399.png Since b(σ * ) represents the best response for all players to σ * , the existence of the fixed point proves that there is some strategy set which is a best response to itself. No player could do any better by deviating, and it is therefore a Nash equilibrium.

The problem is that it's a phrase used recklessly. You're suppose to use it only when someone says something smurfing hilarious or so smurfing genius that it blows your smurfing mind away. You're not suppose to use it when someone says something that makes you chuckle or makes you think "hmmmm, I kind of agree with that".

Poster #1: President Bush? More like President TUSH (as in "tushy" as in "butt" as in "ass")
Poster #2: OMFG YOU WIN THE INTERNETS!
