I'm gonna host a LAN party next on Friday Nov 4th and i was wondering if anyone could provide me with suggestions on what games would be good for like 4 people to play over PC. We are gonna bring some X-Box's and do some Halo 2, but that won't be enough.

- Counter Strike totally pwns it up.
- Quake 3
- Unreal Tournament/UT2k3/UT2k4
- Call of Duty. Can't beat that for WWII combat.
- If you like RTS, try Starcraft, C&C Gens, or Warzone 2100 (which is free and awesome, btw)

What Hsu said. And I like the old C&C games better myself, such as Red Alert 2 and back, more than Generals. You should really think about Star Wars Battlefront and Age of Empires II or III too.

It really depends on what genre you're going for.

The RTS suggestion is good though, Starcraft or Warcraft III would both be excellent choices.

Hell, anything by Blizzard really.

We usually play Dawn of War at LAN parties. It's pretty easy to find a crack for and set up if you like RTS games.

ok, i love star craft and red alert. (more the 1st then the 2nd) but for rts, nothing beats homeworld. its confusing at first but when you get into it its a great game. also jedi acadamy is fun, but you can play it on xbox. and also, the d&d games are pretty cool. i personoly like pool of radiance, but they are all pretty good.

You could play Source, if you're into that sort of thing. "That sort of thing" being, of course, games for total noobs ;)

Call me Korean, but I still say Starcraft.

...Oh, and Descent was completely amazing.

I remember my comp sci class I took back in the day all we did was play 8 player descent while the teacher was lecturing.

Age of Empires was good too.

I still remember my favorite multiplayer Descent level with that metal-volcano-cone thing with lava walls all inside.

Counter Strike is always great when it comes to LAN parties... Can't go wrong with that one.

Unless you play from morning til night and never leave your computer, not even for toilet, I wouldn't dream of calling you Korean.

As to my suggestions...any kind of fun fast Deathmatch. I don't include Counter Strike, since it's highly overrated, and I honestly believe people who play it are probably fooling themselves as to how much they actually enjoy it. A kind of faux-pas enjoyment working at a subconcious level.

I'm going to have to flag that statement as BS. It may be overrated, but that doesn't make it a crap game that's impossible to enjoy. It's all personal taste.

For a good free multiplayer FPS, check out Nexuiz. It's all open source and is continuously moving forward with new improvements. The 1.3 patch should be awesome.

Battle Realms, think .... sort of Star Craft in ancient Orient style.

very fun gameplay, all races are really balanced.

There is only one answer to this question: Ragnarok Online.

You can say what you want about playing Counter Strike or whatever but sitting on my friend's private server hunting for items with my friends and then going into a massive War of Emp. match against three guilds was a blast. The fact that we were drinking the whole time and listening to HORRIBLE J-pop helped too.

And though this isn't really a LAN party, playing any of the following with friends is great too: Soul Calibur/2/3, Mark of the Wolves, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, King of Fighters 2003, and Guilty Gear XX #Reload.
