the point of prying was to determine who would be throwing the ball with Tidus's Blitz Ace (if you prayed then it would increase Wakka's affection for you thus he might throw the ball when you used the overdrive)

they do that because they give you the option of changeing his name so there wouldnt be any way for them to say it as it can change.
