What about Bahamut ZERO then?

The "great wisdom" of the Huge Materia is needed in order to acquire it, and there's a common misconception that you get it while you're in space, which Cid fairly creams his pants over (great sight).

(By "common misconception", I'm merely referring to the fact that in reality, you can get any combination of the Huge Materia and you're guaranteed to have the yellow if there's one, green if there's two, red if there's three and silver if you get them all... because the one in space is the last you'll get if you remember to salvage the red sub, it's often believed that the one in space is silver. Actually I'm not sure if that order is correct, but I am sure that they appear in an order, not in specific places.)

This is the current riddle:

Before a great sight,
great wisdom has granted you this gift.
1/2 dinosaur, 1/2 steel,
A great aid when your friends are in trouble.

Sephitachi7
11-26-2007, 10:20 PM
No one's guessed for a while so I'll give a clue.

It is a weapon (not to be confused with a WEAPON) and think of the 3rd line more like this...

1/2 dinosaur (the name), 1/2 steel (description).

Someone's bound to get it now.

And also I noticed I used great 3 times >< lol.

Happy guessing.

Aerith's Knight

Sephitachi7
11-28-2007, 02:35 AM
hehe Should I answer the riddle? I didn't think it was that hard but maybe it is.

btw it is not force stealer, but good guess.

... Think of line 4 as more than just a line. It's actually a good clue. What weapon is a great aid when your friends are in trouble?

Jiro
11-28-2007, 02:40 AM
Dragoon Lance?
Its not a dinosaur but still, its all I've got.

EDIT: Nevermind, that last clue makes my guess irrelevant.

lol sorry if it was corny hahaha

Yes it is Yoshiyuki congratulations

Here is the riddle and what it means:

Before a great sight, (The leaning rocket in Rocket Town)
great wisdom has granted you this gift.(Given to you by old man)
1/2 dinosaur, 1/2 steel,(1st half of the name is Yoshi :P)
A great aid when your friends are in trouble. (Sword gets power up when allies are down)

Your turn Gennosuke!

OK, here it goes, if this totally sucks im sorry:( ,

A quantity no longer possessed.

Weimar Pluto Knight VII
11-29-2007, 01:42 PM
The Shinra Mansion? I'm pretty sure I'm close. I'm not sure how to fit all the lines, though. But the first two lines sounds like Nibelheim, and the 3rd line sounds like the safe or kinda what you do to get one of the numbers. Maybe the answer is 59?

BG-57
11-29-2007, 07:33 PM
I think you're correct with the safe reference but a quantity no longer possessed sounds an awful lot like the Lost Number monster that guards the safe.

Weimar Pluto Knight VII, would like to take the next riddle? You did half the work.

Weimar Pluto Knight VII
12-01-2007, 11:25 PM
Hmm ok. Sorry for not being on for a day.

West is my German home
Where people hear I eat little at a time.

Northwest is where I go to win her over.
She happens to be Thai.

Northeast is where I shall receive Reconciliation.
But that won't be for another four years.

South is where I shall visit a monument
That was built there in memory of its Jewish people.

Finally I'll end up north of here.
Something worse than death will happen to me here.

Where am I?

Couple of clarifications: I don't need where I end up, just where I am before going anywhere, and each stanza compares some place with the starting place, in other words, where I end up is north of where I started, not north of the place in the stanza right before.

Juggernaut
12-02-2007, 02:34 AM
I know this makes NO sense, but for reason, I'd like to say:

Either The Temple of The Ancient, or Midgar.

Or maybe Temple of Ancient was built in spite of 'Jewish' people.
(Probably a group symbolizing Jews.)

Oh, or Chocobo.

Is it costa del sol?

West is my German home --> neibelheim is west of it, and it is cloud's bitrth town
Where people hear I eat little at a time.

Northwest is where I go to win her over. --> not sure on this one, maybe wutai?
She happens to be Thai.

Northeast is where I shall receive Reconciliation. -->Midgar,where cloud is found by Tifa and ff begins
But that won't be for another four years. --> 4 yrs after the neibelheim incident

South is where I shall visit a monument --> maybe temple of the ancients
That was built there in memory of its Jewish people.

Finally I'll end up north of here.
Something worse than death will happen to me here. --> city of the ancients, where aerith dies

the location could also be somewhere near costa del sol, so i'm gonna go ahead and say gold saucer and north corel as well for good measure :D

Weimar Pluto Knight VII
12-12-2007, 09:16 AM
Sorry guys, I'm supposed to get emails when people post and for some reason that service turned off again. Nope, not Costa del Sol.

Yes, the first couplet mentions Nibelheim b/c heim is german for home and nibel sounds like nibble.

Yes, the second couplet is Wutai b/c wu sounds like woo and tai sounds like Thai.

No, the next stanza does not refer to Midgar. Like the rest of the stanzas, I made up puns, but this one is kinda tricky since you have to know about FFX. Even if you aren't familiar with that game enough, you should be able to figure it out from the rest of the stanzas, but if you figure this one out, you'll be like "oh, I know what to guess now."

No, again think of puns. The next stanza doesn't have to do with the temple of the ancients.

Yes, the last stanza does refer to the city of the ancients, also known as the forgotten capital. (Being forgotten is worse than death.) I guess this stanza was unusual since you weren't supposed to use puns to get the location.

12-12-2007, 03:02 PM
If south is Junon Harbour (Jew souns like Ju) and the place of reconcilliation is Kalm (as in the calm from FFX), could the answer be midgar?

Weimar Pluto Knight VII
12-12-2007, 03:21 PM
Yes, the pun of Junon is that it sounds like "Jew none," and yes the answer is Midgar. You're up footem.

Geez! Calm down, Zacky! I'll give y'all another clue. Maybe you want to get BG-57.... this'd be right up his alley. He makes riddles like this a lot.

Anywho, the riddle speaks of something that eventually occurs in the game at one certain point. You run around a lot and *this* happens. but that is NOT what the riddle is about. This may be vague, but once you figure it out, you'll know how big a clue this is.

P.S. I know, isn't that smiley awesome Majestic? :D

BG-57
01-08-2008, 12:23 PM
I'm game for a challenge. :D

Okay, so it's neither an object, limit break, nor an event.

So it could be a monster, person, spell, or location. I'm not sure whether weapons and armor could be included as objects.

It sounds like an enemy, a boss by the sound of it. One that can fly perhaps?

Hmm...is it the helicopter machine that the party fights on the Shinra elevator? :plotting:

Rantz
01-08-2008, 12:51 PM
I'm guessing Chocobuckle.

Soft and blinding, so very quiet,
Dancing with such deadly grace. - The chocobo can be said to dance. Gracefully, well... :rolleyes2
With a whisper and a dream,
Death comes in on silent wings. - The chocobo doesn't exactly use its wings.

Lines 1 and 3 are a bit iffy, but they're not specific enough to disprove it either.

Halenite
01-08-2008, 03:08 PM
Well, with wings being a personification, and you already said it's part of the story, I'm wondering if it's the laser (or whatever) that pierces Diamond Weapon the the Barrier at the Northern Crater.

that OR, it could be the highwind transforming after the final battle.

As for Kai's, definately Masamune or Meteor (Black Materia)

Dragon Mage
01-13-2008, 05:24 AM
Phew, Finally! Somone realized what a personification was.

Note: Events cannot be personified becuase they are events.

BG-57, you're on the right track. But it isn't an object at all. Maybe this will help narrow it down.

Soft and blinding, so very quiet,
Dancing with such deadly grace.

These two lines are descriptive. The object of the riddle appears to be dancing, but isn't really, becuase it is inanimate.

With a whisper and a dream,
Death comes in on silent wings.

These two lines don't describe the object itself but rather the effect it has on the characters at one point in the game (note: this effect does not always occur, it depends). No, it is not magic, I'll say that right off.

Remember, 'wings' is a personification, but it gives you a sense of where the riddle object comes from.

So, in summary, what comes down from the sky but doesn't have wings, affects the chars (that could've resulted in death) and is inanimate, but not really an object per se?

This is a huge amount of clues. Guess more. :P

It occured to me that I didn't really give an explanation for my riddle. I'll give it anywho, just if anyone was curious.

Soft and blinding, so very quiet,.....Snow makes no sound as it falls, unlike rain.
Dancing with such deadly grace......Wind tends to swirl the snow about quite a bit.

Death comes in on silent wings.......self explanatory.

Hey, been a while since I was here... and been a long while since I played the game. So I'll just try to help out. He said soldiers is on the right track, and whatever the answer is, gives you the "spoils" without a fight. It could be animate or inanimate. And then later you fight the same type of thing, but blue. Obviously whatever you fight is animate..

My guess is that the answer is soldiers that for some reason just give you an item, without a fight. Maybe you talk to them, maybe they're knocked out and you steal the item, and either way you end up fighting some blue soldiers later.

I'd give a specific guess but it's been so long that I can't remember such a thing happening. If this sparks anyone's memory, by all means, guess! :D

[edit] Okay, a rudimentary guess: someone in the beginner's hall that you talk to and gives you an item?

"from light to darkness" -- moved from Junon to Midgar
"Freudian misnomer" -- named sister ray, but Freud would've said guns are phallic
"now hears voices speak" -- during the Midgar firing sequence, you can actually hear voices. It's the only time in the game when you can, I believe.
"helpless to cease them" -- obviously "she" is not in control of her actions, and can't stop the orders

BG-57 is right!

A power that seems to overflow. -> Limit Break

And a cloud looms over as if it had wings. -> Cloud jumps and hovers in the air.

Then with an ability from out of this world, -> They are meteors.

all my enemies are crushed with a single swing. -> Cloud swings his sword once and the meteors come down.

BTW the tweak I was going to do was change the second line from

And a cloud looms over as if it had wings.

to

And Cloud looms over as if he had wings.

Not named yet famous
Three orbs my namesake
Say hello to my friends

I'm going to say Behemoth although the first line confuses me with this.

it depends on how you look at it. You say that the answer is named but not "mentioned" in game, which could reference to the fact it is not said in the dialogue itself. As Behemoth is an enemy which we encounter in disc 3 but is famous as it is widely used in a lot of the final fantasies.

3 Orbs my Namesake - The 3 orbs would reference to Bahamut, Neo Bahamut and Bahamut Zero. The Bahamut creature is a mythical creature "altered" from the original Behemoth creature. :

"In Jorge Luis Borges' Book of Imaginary Beings, Bahamut is a beast of Arabic mythology "altered and magnified"[1] from Behemoth"

Say hello to my friends. -

I'd say that "my friends" could either reference to the Bahamuts, or possibly the predecessors/successors/variations of Behemoth in future and past FF's. Such as - King Behemoth/Sr.Behemoth, Intangir, Catoplebas & Azul the Cerulean.

Still I get the last word.

I'm unsure of this one but it could be referenced to Behemoth being the main name / the connection between all these characters including Bahamut.

The only thing that really confuses me though is that the answer is named for dragons. Well Bahamut is named as the King of Dragons, but the name Bahamut was created from Behemoth which was actually a large and most powerful creature, but not actually detailing him as a dragon.

Sorry if I'm wrong, I just did a lil bit of research and found a connection between bahamut and behemoth so yeah :P I decided to answer.

BG-57
03-24-2008, 09:40 PM
It's not Behemoth, but researching mythology will help a lot with this one.

Lenna

Not named yet famous
Three orbs my namesake
Say hello to my friends
Still I get the last word

Not named yet famous - King Arthur (a famous MYTHICAL king of Britain).. We see him in the game but he is not named. Only the summon magic itself is named.

3 Orbs my namesake - Bahamut was known as the King of Dragons, so he himself is named a king, same as King Arthur.

Say hello to my friends - The Knights of the Round show all of the knights one by one as they slash the enemy.

Still I get the last say - King Arthur is the final knight that gives the finishing blow to the enemy with Excalibur in his hand.

:) So yeah, King Arthur is the answer, I think :)

Those That Approach,

Lenna
03-27-2008, 08:08 PM
