This is a re-make of a topic I made a while ago. There were a few complaints about my options, so I changed them.
You may not that Bob Marley is not a rock frontman, but as the coolest amn who ever lived, I felt he deserved a place on the list.

Thom Yorke is pretty cool.

Ville is on the list so the little emo-goths have something to vote for. Besides, he's a decent, if irritating, frontman.

Freddie Mercury. No question.

In terms skill with his part of the band (i.e instrument vocalist): Daniel Gildenlow.

He is simply the best vocalist ever, and he is a damned good guitarist as well. <3 him.

In terms of showmanship.

Daniel Gildenlow. (Watch the BE dvd to see why)

Who is Daniel Gildenlow? Does he enjoy coffee?

Crushed Hope
11-02-2005, 09:48 PM
He is the lead singer and one of two guitarists for Pain of Salvation, as well as a vocalist for The Flower Kings, though his showmanship and musicianship really shine mainly in Pain of Salvation.

RPJesus

Sorry, never heard of him, then. Is this just for the famous frontman? Because, in that case, would this Daniel fellow count? I don't know.

Crushed Hope

I doubt it is for only famous frontmen, just the best ones. Oh and so you can listen to the guy in action you should listen to these songs by Pain of Salvation.

Vocal skill: (Everything but ... I will give highlights)
Reconcilation (off of The Perfect Element)
The Perfect Element ( off of The Perfect Element)
A Trace of Blood (off of Remedy Lane)
Waking Every God (" )
Dea Pecuniae (off of BE)
Iter Impius (off of BE)

Instrumental skill:
Everything really but the major highlights of his instrumental skill are:

Winning A War (off of Entropia)
People Passing By ( ")
Inside Out (off of One Hour By The Concrete Lake)
Idioglossia (Off of The Perfect Element)
King of Loss (" )
Song for the Innocent (" )
Falling (" )
This Heart of Mine ( off of Remedy Lane)
Dryad of the Woods (" )
Second Love (" )
Dea Pecuniae (off of BE)
Iter Impius ( off of BE)

Showmanship:

Just sounds like generic rock to me.

Hmmm from the clips I've heard off "Be", they sound interesting enough for a listen.

Daniel Gildenlow may be a good frontman, but he certainly isn't the greatest. This poll isn't about 'The singer from your favourite band', it's for the best frontman of all time.
[I know Valo and Cobain don't really belong there, but Cobain is popular and Valo... well, I just wanted to fill space.]

Oh I know it may seem like I am basing it off of that (favorite singer from favorite band)... but I am not, and I honestly think that the two things I mentioned before: skill and showmanship are required for a person to be a good frontman.

Take Maynard of Tool for example: Good voice, but no stage presence. Bad frontman.

Trevor Strnad of The Black Dahlia Murder, great ****ing showman, but horrible at his job in the band. Bad frontman.

Daniel has the vocal skill of a God, and after watching the BE dvd I can say I have never seen anyone do a better job as an entertainer ... good frontman.

Wow what a surprise, a bunch of popular artists which are well-known. They MUST BE GREAT IF PEOPLE KNOW THEIR NAMES!

*sigh*

Kristen Hersh (Of the Throwing Muses:

[This record] once again gives credence to the legend that genius and madness go hand in hand. For Boston's Kristin Hersh the legend is simple reality, as her songs and lyrics are driven by a bipolar disorder that sees her veer between extremes of manic ecstasy and mind-numbing despair controlled by constant medication.

Billy Corgan (Of The Smashing Pumpkins and Zwan)
-Unlike Cobain, Corgan actually took his band on a journey, rather then the journey to shoot up. He played witht ehs ound of the band, he had it *whisper* IMAGINATION. Cobain was a rudimentadly guitarist who was poor at solos. Not: Nirvana's sound didn't even alter. Plus, without Nirvana, we wouldn't have pointed out to record companies that agnst sells. Bring on Avril Lavigne...
-he man has presence, his 6ft frame and his imposing look certainly gives you that. You're not going to lose this guy in the background...
-Wow a voice that expresses a emotion OTHER than anger or agnst (Vile Vallo...)

Consider these two for a while, try them out. Trust me, it's worth it.

Trent Reznor isn't a frontman. That's like saying Beck is a frontman.

I still say Pete Townshend was the best ever. Eddie vedder should be on the list too.

Eddie Vedder is a babe.

Interesting that you included Pete Townsend as frontman of The Who, given that Roger Daltrey was the singer... Not saying that you're wrong, but it's an interestingly contraversial view. Same goes for Jimmy Page...

But anyway, Sir Mick wins (provided that Keith Richards is there to stop him going Disco...).

(And seeing Freddy Mercury with seven votes makes me want to cry...).

You should've had Matt Heafy from Trivium instead of Cobain

Really? It's just that on the last incarnation of this poll, one of the mods added Townshend (he he... Mods like The Who. Get it? Mods? Mods? Mods are mods? He he he he...) Not my fault!
I don't understand whta's wrong with Jimmy Page though. He was the singer... right?
You should've had Matt Heafy from Trivium instead of Cobain

Actually, yhe implication was that you were of sub-normal intelligence (not a real insult though, just a joke).
By using those 'simple terms' I implied that you were dumb. SOrry if you find that overly insulting.

This might work better if people would stop nagging about the current choices and just suggest another one. No one cares if you think Kurt Cobain was too skinny, make a damn point!

This one wasnt on the list but I would say BONO! I've seen U2 live, I've met them as a metter of fact! And Bono sure knows how to entertain a crowd!

But if I was to choose from the list then I would say Fredie Mercury!:D :D :D

RPJesus
11-06-2005, 05:06 PM
Yeah, Bono's good, but I don't think he's quite as 'frontman' as the other choices. He's a good frontman/musician/guy, but he's not in the same frontman-y league... or something...

Freddie Mercury by a country mile. Honourable mentions to Bruce Dickinson and Bob Marley.

I suppose it depends on how you define a frontman. Is it based just on their voices and recordings, or does it also include their showmanship on stage?

I personally believe it is both. In which case it is hard to make a judgement since I haven't seen/heard all of them enough to make a proper choice.
