I found this post on the GameFAQs.com message boards and I read it with much scepticism.

I work at an EB (Gamestop just bought EB out by the way, so we're having a hell of a time changing everything around) and one of my managers was telling me that Square sold to Microsoft, and he wont be surprised if a FFVII remake (Which i still doubt will ever happen) will be on the 360.

The only good that can come of this is an Ehrgeiz 2 with Master Chief, hahaha

So, has Square-Enix been sold, or is this person obsessed with companies being bought out by one another?

Shameless rumor mongering, believe it or not "some guy who works at EB" doesn't always know best.

Yeah, "some guy who works at EB" tried telling me several years ago that the PSOne has more processing power than the N64 and also that PSOne games wouldn't be backwards compatible on the PS2.

"Some guy who works at EB" is usually an ignoramus.

Indeed. It's my experience that most stores don't know exact details about a product until about a week before the release. And they rarely, if ever, know details about the companies themselves.

I thought as much. Just wanted to confirm my suspicion.

Remember: The bigger the store, the dumber the people who work there.

Nah. FFVII might have a remake due to the Tech Demo for the PS3. Not the Xbox 360. The only thing that square is doing for microsoft at the moment is making FFXI for the Xbox 360 and this one RPG for it. And about the Tech Demo, I used to think it was a game version of Advent Children but if you look closely at it, Cloud's jumping from a train like the beginning of FFVII. And his cloths are the same. Not his AC change of style...

Some guy at EB once told me that Square were going to stop at FF9, also that the PS3 was going to be a supervirus that only played games it liked.

Dunno, but they used to have a rivalry. Now they're making a game together. What's going on, here??

I granite that its not true.

On a not entirely different topic, I hear that the games for ps3 will only work on one system. Meaning, that when you buy a game and put it into your ps3, it will only work on that system. There by making it so you cant rent games anymore.

Iduno, I don’t believe it. Wut are yours thoughts?

i just heard that ps3 games will only be able to play on one system. so you cant take your ps3 game over to a friends house and play on his/her ps3. If that does happen (probably wont) ps1 and ps2 games wont have the technology to be fixed to one system, so no worries there.

I wouldn't worrie about it.

The only way it could happen is if your ps3 was always online so it could upload the individual code of each game to a massive database that would always check everygame to c if the game is playing on its main system. But that would be stupid because then you could just not go online. But if it wouldn't let you play untill you registered your game, there going to lose alot of money.
Another way they could do it is to accualy burn some kindof data directly to the CD that tells other systems that this game has been fixed to a system. The only problem is that the games are not RW. But I'm not shure how things work with BR CDs.

I wouldnt get excited about it. Its just if you heard about it, dont go out and kill Sony.:)

Well SE is making games for the 360. Who knows, maybe the VII remake will be multiplatform, therefore everybody wins.

it's worth noting that what square are doing is brining out an old game that ran on a system that has half the power of the xbox. seems a little silly. would be like releasing ff9 for ps2.

The dude probably got confused because Mystwalker or whatever its called that Sakaguchi created (the man that started Final Fantasy. Yeah, he "broke away from" Square-Enix and made his own company) is slightly Microsoft exclusive at the moment. I've only heard about them working on two games. And both are for the 360.

Microsoft bought some gaming companies over the years but Square isn't one of them.
