There have been many things said about "why does Barret tell Denzel take care of mom" and he goes to Tifa. Personaly I think it means nothing it is just like in VIII when they all called Ellone sis she was not there sister it was just a name for there caretaker

I think it's 'cos Denzel is an orphan, and so he refers to Tifa as 'mom' 'cos she looks after him and all the other orphans. I know plenty of orphans/foster children who do that.

Tifa is essentially a mother to Denzel, so it's not unnatural for him to know her as "mother".

Thats what I believe and I think thats the actual reason, unless someone subbed it wrong.
