Wikipedia says:
* Alice in Chains
* Green River
* Hole
* L7
* Love Battery
* Mad Season
* Malfunkshun
* Melvins, The
* Mother Love Bone
* Mudhoney
* Nirvana
* Pearl Jam
* Screaming Trees
* Skin Yard
* Soundgarden
* Stone Temple Pilots
* Tad
* Temple of the Dog
* Willard
It's not about liking them for their style, it's about liking bands of that style. Grunge bands seem to influence other grunge bands more than other genres, probably because a good half of them were all from Seattle.

There's a few on that list I listen to. Grunge can be good, but it can also be pretty bad.

Nirvana was, or is awesome. Hole was all right I suppose, as were Stone Temple Pilots and Alice in Chains. Those last two were a bit better than Hole, though.
All in my opinion, though.

Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, and to a (much lesser in terms of Gruneness)lesser extent, Our Lady Peace and Smashing Pumpkins are the only bands of this kind worth listening to.

I used to listen to a lot of grung ten years ago. I still think that "classic" grunge bands are (or were) awesome, but when I think about it there' s a definite "teenage" feeling to it I don't recognize myself in anymore.
Also, I think that making grunge music now is kinda pointless. Times change, people change.
I listen to it a bit and I like it. Nirvana is very good. I like the stone temple pilots also as I do like the Alice in Chains..Then there's this new grunge- rock- type- of- a- band I've heard on the radio for a couple of times. It was good also. I just can't remember the name...shame.

AiC aren't really "grunge", but more prog rock. Anyways, they're stilll an awesome band.

I think it's pretty absurd (please excuse my whiteness) to call a band just one genre. Bands are multiple genres, it's inevitable for them to be that way. Even if they weren't grunge, they were part of the Grunge scene.

Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Creed are the only ones I can think of at the moment.

Err ... no it is not inevitable. A band can be one genre for their entire career. Nirvana were nothing but Grunge. >_> Sucked but were nothing but grunge.
Anyways, don't ever excuse your whiteness. You are showing a weakness and lack of pride in yourself and your race.
I'm more of a fan of the Alternative Scene that ran alongside the Grunge scene. However, some of the best bands (IMO) were grunge bands. I love:
-The Smashing Pumpkins (While they got less grunge as they progressed, always had the spirit of Grunge in their songs)
-Pixies (The pionners of the music)
-Sonic Youth (Listen to Daydream Nation, Goo &Dirty for some good Grunge).
Some proper grunge bands I like :
-Nirvana
-Mudhoney
-Pearl Jam
-Hole
-Stone Temple Pilots
-L7

I'm not sure Sonic Youth could be called grunge, but sure they influenced a lot Grunge bands and Nirvana especially. In my opinion if you don't know Sonic Youth you cannot fully understand records like "In Utero" and "Pretty on the Inside" by Hole.
Same for the Pixies.
As for the Pumpkins, they were my ultimate rock n' roll heroes a few years back. <3 But even they cannot be only called grunge.

Sonic Youth are one of the most amazingly influential bands of the last 20 years.
