What do you think of Microsoft Excel's thousands of practical uses in today's business world?

Aren't Autosum, Solver, and Pivot Tables just the greatest things ever imagined?

3D Clustered Bar Charts really make my day, also!

Nested If functions that go on for days really turn my crank.

Also, I'm back, because I have a custom title now, and I think that's neat.

Even though from a moral standpoint, I think Microsoft is the epitome of the big, evil, corporation and I hate them for it, all of the MS Office programs make work alot easier....

I agree with Parvus Edea. Much as I dislike Microsoft, I can't imagine being able to do my work without Word and Excel.

EDIT: Except for the Graphics. ClipArt really sucks now. It used to be much better. :)

I think OpenOffice.org's program Calc can do all that and it's free.

I wish it was easier to use.

Wait - scratch that one. I wish I had spent more time learning how to use it at School.

Welcome back, Caspian.

Excel is extremely helpful in engineering applications, but it could use a more integrative language. VB macros just don't cut it for me - I want to be able to program each cell's function in C.

I find Excel really, really dumb.
It makes complicated things that should be simple.

I use openoffice 1.4, which has an equivalent word processor but an inferrior spreadsheet program.

I would use the OO word equivalent, but MS Excel.

I love excel, and I think it's kinda funny that it has a better calculator then the one in system tools, and most windows users will never learn that :P

I can draw pictures using Excel, Manus. :D

You won't really understand the true worth of Excel unless you are a cricketer and understand the worth of =IF(F31=1,"n/a",INT(F31)&"-"&ROUND(1000-MOD(F31,1)*1000,0)) where F31=IT31+1 and IT31=IF(EA31="",IP31,IF((EA31-DZ31/1000)>IP31,EA31-DZ31/1000,IP31)) and... okay I'm probably getting a bit ahead of myself here, it'd take a while to get through all the other cells that first cell is controlled by.

Excel is my friend. If I could find a girl that was as compatible with me as Excel is, I'd marry her. I do all sorts of things using Excel. I don't even use the Calculator in XP anymore. Why use the calculator when you can use Excel? Excel is sexy. I use Excel for so much. Did you know you can use Excel for recoding tables in an extremely effective way? You just have to think outside the cell you type in, oh ho ho. Award Guy uses Excel when counting his nominations and votes, I use Excel when analysing the data submitted in the staff Feedback forms, I use it when figuring out statistics for my pals in the CricketWeb Dev League, I use it for basic architectural drawings as seen in the image attached (I passed this on to Lenna who made a Sims house using it). I use it for re-ordering information, I use it's conditional formatting for the highlighting of things, I use it for so much! Be it the simple SUM, AVERAGE, IF or COUNT functions or the less used but equally useful TRIM, LEFT, RIGHT, COUNTIF, SUMIF, STDEV, CONCATENATE ( CONCATENATE)... oh man, I don't know, I could go on forever.

Oh.

DID I MENTION THE PIE GRAPHS?!?!?!

Election Booth also uses Excel to tabulate votes.

excel is my favorite microsoft product. In eighth grade, when we were learning to use all those programs, I adored it then. I still have use for it once in a while.

If you guys feel hindered by your inability to not use Microsoft products, you could always try Star Office, Corel, or Open Office.

=D8*1.3

EDIT: Or, if you want to add a positive 30% to the negative number, you can use =D8*0.7
