This is some major bull. I renamed my folder holding my emus and ROMs and aranged everything. I go to play my ZSNES and find all of my games started to the beginning. I never once remembered ZSNES having a folder for saved files and yet if so, it would be "in" the ZSNES folder. Not only this but when I first opened my ZSNES Emu I see all of this window crap so I had to dig in until I found my Emu and ROM folder, which didn't take quite long. What's up!?

There should be a ZSNES .cfg file that contains the path to your save files. You can edit it in notepad and put the correct path in, or you can browse for your save files and ZSNES will save the new path.

For games that have a save feature, ZSNES creates a secondary file for the save in the folder the rom is in. If that is still there, you just have to edit the .cfg file to look iin that folder. If it isn't, then you will have to start over.

The save file will have the exact same file name as the rom, only with a .srm extention.

Maybe the Emu ate all your save files?

Oh crash. No ammount of sitcoms can compare to your hilarity.

You open the cfg with notepad
And change the parameters around the save/game directory to the renamed folder.

Then you change the parameters around the save/game directory to the renamed folder
i.e. Read the file and look for something that says "Save directory" and "Game directory" and do what they very nicely written file tells you to.

Notepad's being more of an ass than me and isn't letting me open a .cfg extension. Do I change it to a .txt file??

Double click on the cfg file and select notepad from the list of programs it gives you to open it.

I tried what you said. Didn't see anything about the games I had. Like Autumn Rain said, "If it isn't, then you will have to start over."...

I rest my case

No goddamnit, it is that. You changed the folder name so it doesn't know where to look, that's the only thing it possibly could be. But in the cfg file it will says "games directory" and you change what it says there to the renamed directory you have your games in and stop being so helpless.

crash - do you actually WANT to start over? Because this is mind-numbingly simple.

First off, this could've been entirely avoided if you didn't rename the folder.

Secondly, it's really simple to fix. Say your original folder was C:\Program Files\ZSNES and you renamed the folder to C:\Program Files\ZS. However, in the .cfg file, it will still have C:\Program Files\ZSNES listed as the filepath to look for save files. So you need to double-click the .cfg file, click on Notepad when it brings up a list of programs, and then change the save directory to the new filepath (in this example, C:\Program Files\ZS). It will take approximately three seconds, and you won't have to start over. That will work, unless you deleted some files.

And if you don't understand that, you fail at the Internet.

Now Im starting to get it. But the thing is that I didn't re-name my ZSNES folder. Just my Fceu (NES emu) folder, then made another folder for my NES roms, now there are only 5 folders for my 5 Emus with the ROMs in them. So what Im trying to say is that I didn't edit the ZSNES folder. Or do I have to still fill out the cfg crap?? Sorry, it's just a little confusing.

If you renamed the folder that your zsnes folder is in, or any other folder all the way down to C:\ you'll still need to do the cfg thing.
And just TRY it. It's not that hard

I did.

or just move the save states to where the new place is

edit: maybe this won't work i don't actually know what's going on

Samuraid

Yeah, move the state saves to the same folder as each ROM.

The state saves will have .zst .zs1 .zs2 ... .zs9 extensions. Just copy them into the same folder as the ROM. Also copy the .srm file to the ROM folder as well.

Yeah, I think smehow I accidently deleted my saves folder, dunno how. I never touched the ZSNES folder. Ah well. I made a new save folder and wrote it down on the directoy. Thanks for the help. I gotta go start all over...

i never thought zsnes actually made a saves folder
i thought all the saves were in the same folder as the games
i mean i kept the games and the emu in the same folder maybe that's why i remember things differently

Nah, it's in the same folder as the games. It's like Autumn Rain said, same game name only with a .srm ending. So unless you deleted those files, this is easy to fix.

Indeed, but I believe he stated he could find any .srm files. If he knows where these are, editting the .cfg file will work. If not, he's screwed.
