Is it possible to completely bypass gongaga and cosmo canyon when you first reach that point in the game (as their is no river, mountain, ocean, etc to stop you)?

No. You have to play and gain many wisdom.

your buggy breaks down in front of Cosmo Canyon, so you're stuck there, and you can't cross over the river to Nibelheim without it.

One time my buggy didn't break down.... but i think i had parked it on the grass. Maybe thinking it was like the Garden in FF8. You see i had been playing alot of FF8 and not alot of FF7.

the buggy only breaks down if you're right outside cosmo canyon, cause it never broke down for me until i actually heard that it broke down and drove around in front of it too see what happened for fun

You can bypass Gongaga. I did it the first playthrough. But you miss out on some neat stuff if you do.

I think you can skip Gongaga without a problem, but Cosmo Canyon is compulsory. Also I suppose you can skip the Wutai sidequest entirely even if you have Yuffie in your party just by not going there.

You never have to go to Wutai.

I never bothered to skip Cosmo Canyon, I just don't like skipping parts of the game, I hate it when I realize I missed something and can't go back.

I accidentally skipped the village before Cosmo, you know, the broken reactor...

Reached Cosmo and was horrible under levelled up for the boss there... Then got scared the Turks would be in the village I'd skipped, fortunately they were...

In the PS one? It WILL break down if you try to pass Cocmo Canyon (if you try to drive past CC the buggy will explode and Cloud will get out and... :blahblah:

lol I love people who can't detect sarcasm, especially from a staff member of the site and would apparently know better that Aeris can't be revived.

Anyone have a link to that absolutely amazing post about bringing her back with the game shark and finding her lifeless? I won't spoil it but anyone who's read it should no what I'm talking about.

You can skip wutati, Gongaga, underwater plane, all materia caves, vincent cave, that forest near cosmo canon where you get slash-all you can only get there with a green or better chocobo, the chocobo ranch, sleeping dudes cave, and the chocobo sage's house. I think thats it.

I suppose you could. But then you would never get the PHS.

You can bypass kalm to go to the ranch but you can't go any further. When you get past the snake part and go to enter the cave, cloud will say "arn't I suppose to be somewhere right now?" or something like that.

I imagine few things would vex a programmer more than dealing with a player who won't stick to the script.
