That's fantastic. How long did it take you to do?

I don't think I have the kind of patience required to do Origami.

About an hour to fold. About a half hour to make the paper.

It's not really "my" design, I just followed the directions someone else wrote in a book. I will be happy if I can someday invent my own stuff.

I can't make a gun, but someone apparently can (http://origami.artists.free.fr/Hoangtrungthanh/gun01/gun01.htm).

Chocobo's weren't in FF1.

Dr. Unne's coat was made of chocobo.

You need to make your paper?

You need to make your paper?

Well, only if you're a huge origami nerd. I make it by sticking two sheets of tissue paper onto some aluminum foil, because it's good for making complex models (it's really thin and folds easily, and it's easy to pose/sculpt once you're done).

But you can use any paper. Art stores sell origami paper pretty cheap, like $10 for 50-100 sheets. The chocobo could be made from almost any paper though.

You need to install Japanese language support or something, if you use Windows. Linux and OS X don't seem to have that problem though, strangely enough. Being able to see it properly doesn't help unless you speak Japanese anyways of course... I just went by the picture, my Japanese isn't too good.

I wish.. Satoshi Kayima has a Cactuar (http://www.folders.jp/g/2001/sabotenda_.html) and Bahamut (http://www.origamihouse.jp/book/original/kamiya/baha.jpg) though. Bahamut is in my book, but I haven't tried it yet.

Is that unicorn made from one piece of paper?

Yep. :) One uncut square. 48 cm. or so to begin with.

I'ma going to sound like an idiot for asking this, but how do you understand the picture? it just looks like a whole lot of lines on a square of paper to me..

Dr Unne
12-20-2005, 02:01 AM
Well, you can recognize the large shape on the bottom right as a Bird Base. The toes on the top-right and bottom-left are standard 22.5-45-67.5 degree crimping. Even with a good knowledge of origami, folding from a crease pattern isn't very easy. The crease pattern doesn't even give you a completed model, it only gives you a base. If you really want good easy directions on how to make the chocobo it'd be better to buy the book.

is it in english?

Dr Unne

"Works of Satoshi KAMIYA" is in Japanese and English. Most books by that publisher (ones I have, anyways) are only in Japanese, so it's actually a bit of a rare treat.

This is pretty much thread necromancy. Old threads should not be revived.

Leeza
11-23-2007, 03:48 PM
For 99% of threads, this is true. Dr Unne's art/origami threads are an exception to this rule. :)
