hey look, a paladin shield question (groan)

so i've played through FFVI on the SNES, emulated, and bought it as Anthologies and never until this time through decided to get the paladin shield. maybe i'm just really impatient and have yet to fight 255 fights with it (it sure feels like i have), but i have some questions as to wether or not it's more complicated than that.

so... does the counter reset if you un equip it else or you die? cause i did Doma Castle with it, and while flying to the solitary island, Doom Gaze up and smacked Gogo around
and i have it on Gogo at the moment... since the FFVI page here says the paladin shield can be equipped by anyone except Umaro i can only imagine Gogo can still break the curse, but i could be wrong... so am i just really impatient or did i screw up somewhere?

well if you were using Gogo, the counter never started... sorry buddy, but normally it doesn't matter if you unequip it or change characters so don't worry about that.

well, i was on solitary island eventually. of course, it seems it was all for nothing. good thing i finally asked, or i could still be there years from now.

out of curiosity, why is it that the developers wouldn't let Gogo uncurse the shield? does anyone, besides the developers know?

I generally equip it on Sabin with a ribbon and it's uncursed before I know it.

Yeah, I was screwed over by that ‘Gogo can’t uncurse it’ bug as well. One of the main reasons I never got the Paladin’s Shield…

well, he's got that whole air of mystery that goes with a horrible shield that turns into a smokin' awesome one... also because i like the ability to edit his command menu, i think it makes him one of my favourite characters.

regardless, i just got it with locke. good stuff

Locke is my mate. He survived battling through the Magitek Factory single-handed and as such, he was the final owner of the shield, as well as general purpose hero. He also uncursed it! ^_^

His stats make him useless! You should be able to equip him with Espers to increse his stats. Using Gameshark I did that with him and Umaro

I do, I like the fact that I can give him blitz(I can do bum rush..or I could until a friend borrowed the game and I haven't gotten the game back yet)also giving him Terra's X-magic(that's me I gave Terra the treasure in Kefka's tower which gives X-magic and I get Gogo to mimic it) it's fun as for the paladin shield I equppied the shield to Locke with a ribbon before I lent the game out to a friend so as of yet I don't have it yet

Anyway. As others have said, Gogo can't uncurse it, and the counter also resets if you de-equip it or move it to another character. Also as others have said, the Soiltary Island is generally the best place to uncurse it.

Strangely enough, I use him a lot in the game, but never in the battle against Kefka, probably because I am one of those silly nostalgics who think about which charachters would have, game-wise, the highest number of reasons for vengeance.

I love GoGo......running him with Terra and Sabin Gives him MAD spells if u need them and 2 Bum Rushes a round is LOVELY. I did run one game where he was not in my final 4 because I ordered them in order of reasons to kill Kefka. Ended up with Terra (crown, etc.) Celes (manipulating her, tryin to execute her, etc) Edgar, and Cyan.

Gogo has crappy stats, bad equipment to make up for the bad stats, and is unable to equip espers.

He's a halfway decent character due to his versality and ability to do anything, but I ended forsaking him for more especialised characters like Shadow, who can equip espers, unlike Adlai.

I pretty much don't use Gogo, but I hear for challenges he one of the most useful characters. Oddly enough, his base magic stat is higher than Sabin's, so he's actually better at using Sabins blitz's initially. As to why he can't uncurse, I'm going with Necronopticous on this one.

For the sheild, either use it during side quests so you do other things that are worthwhile, or go to the solitary island. The latter is faster, but gets incredibly tedious.
