View Full Version : can't think of a good title, but it has to do with people that leave "forever"

How come when people leave the forums "forever" -- seems it usually happens when they are at odds with someone or something -- they delete their avatar/signature and/or entire profile, sometimes leaving a sentence or phrase in their custom title or location field trying to make us feel bad on account of them leaving "forever"? I mean are we supposed to be like, "there was an avatar/signature there before, but now it's gone which means this person really means business and is never coming back?" I always found this pretty funny.

I wonder that too. I think it's just an act of emo.

Funnily enough by sheer coincidence Maxx Power means something entirely offensive in a certain language. I changed it when I went on a few year hiatus out of spite.

Interwebs not that big a deal people. I dont see why you'd leave forever from any website. Its gheylord. I'd just stop posting until I felt like posting again. If I never feel like posting again then big frickin deal. I wouldnt announce I was leaving forever or something weird like that.

I couldn't leave forever. I'd get bored eventually, I'm pretty sure.

I leave for short periods of time unannounced. I don't actively decide to do it either. It's usually the times (like recently) when I get bored of waiting for the Ciddies.

Yams, I love your avatar and custom title.

I left once, but only for an hour or 2 cuz I was making a new profile...Bellaluna15 didn't really fit me...But all my friends still call me Bella...

Y do u think it's funny?

Ugh, that pisses me off so much cause I think it's so stupid. And lame. You don't need to be dramatic about it, just leave. :(

Flamethrower
11-18-2005, 12:34 AM
I don't find it all that funny.

At least not until they return two weeks later, add back their profile/avatar/signature/title, and act like nothing ever happened. Then it's funny.

Yamaneko
11-18-2005, 12:36 AM
Maybe "amusing" instead of "funny".

It seems as though they're attempting to make some sort of statement without remembering this is the Internet. It's not the place for statements.

you miss out on that time capsule effect if you delete it all first.

Second accounts are not permitted and we do not make a new profile by regregistering just because our old one didn't fit or we got bored with it. You PM an Admin and you ask for a name change. Do so next time. Now your accounts have to be merged.

The way I see it, anyone who said will be leaving "forever" are upset for a reason. However, if someone just wants to leave, they just do it and never return, like someone I know. <3 No need to announce if you don't plan on returning.

When I used to play Ultima Online people would post on the forums every
once in a while about how they were leaving. The majority of the time they
came back eventually. The people who really did leave never posted
anything because they grew apathetic to it anyway.

It's silly. Just press the pretty disconnect button, kids, and stop making a hoo-hah about it. Anyways, this place should be for fun, so I sort of feel sorry for people who have to leave because of net drama anyways...it's just that dumb!

Maybe,
I don't really wanna know,
how your garden grows,
I just wanna fly.
Lately,
did you ever feel the pain,
in the morning rain,
as it soaks you to the bone.

Maybe I just wanna fly,
I wanna leave I don't wanna die,
But now is not the time to cry,
now's the time to find out why.
Maybe you're the same as me,
we see things they'll never see,
YOU AND I ARE GONNA LEAVE "FOREVER"

Maybe because they don't want people sending PMs to their account while they're gone? Not everything is about being dramatic or getting attention.

rubah
11-20-2005, 11:42 PM
Why would they care?

Big D
11-21-2005, 12:32 AM
Hmm... the whole 'deleting avatars and sigs' deal...
I can understand why they'd do that. If someone leaves a forum community because of something particularly serious, they might want to distance themselves from that group. Since they can't delete their own account, erasing the info from that account could be a symbolic way of demonstrating that they don't consider themselves a part of the group anymore. Kind of like moving out of a room, and taking all your pictures off the walls. If you don't feel that you belong in a particular place, why continue to have all the adornments and trappings that suggest you consider yourself a member?

Not saying I agree with it, I just understand where they're coming from.

ZeZipster
11-21-2005, 01:00 AM
Why would they care?

You're hopeless.

Just because some leaves due to a fall out doesn't mean they despise the entire community. I'd take it as a clue to contact them through something else.

Big D
11-21-2005, 01:03 AM
I wouldnt say it means they despise the community, rather that they're just further distancing themselves from it.

Loony BoB
11-21-2005, 01:11 AM
Or they just felt like leaving a note in case someone wonders where they've gone!

But really, you have no idea how many people have PM'ed me asking me to delete their account. Something like seven!

Leaving "forever" is lame, dramatic, stupid, and takes too much effort. I prefer to just not say anything and then disappear for six months.

Anyway, I don't understand why they take their avatars/sigs away. I guess to remind us that they're gone, which is kind of stupid, but whatyagonnado.

Chris
11-21-2005, 04:08 PM
Hmm, come to think of it...I can only mention one who did that and that's Iri.
