Back before the days when the internet became common place in alot of people's households and you didn't have any real good methods of finding reviews about particular games. Did you ever used to buy games solely off of how good you though the box art looked and the little details they gave about the game on the box.

I know I used to do that before I discovered the internet and found you can go online and find reviews about the games before you actually buy them to see how good they are.

I could never afford to do that kind of stuff.

Back when I was a kid, that was one of the more common ways to pick a game. It never led me astray either.

My girlfriend got Magna Carta a couple of days ago based on the artwork. (Note, that is actually the artwork as opposed to what the box looks like.) But it was a good decision, because the game is pretty nifty.

But I didn't usually get games based only on the cover way back when, because A) there was a great rental place nearby and B) I bought tons of magazines, all full of reviews and the like.

Luckily there is a large range of magazines in England. Very early on I used to read reviews in the "Sonic comic" by fleetway (that being the offical Sega publication at the time and me being a big Sega fanboy). So that stuff was available to me from a very early age.

I do still however occasionaly buy GamesTM. As it is, in my opinion, the greatest magazine ever sold.

I generally used the back of the box, it gives all kinds of information as far as the game and what it's about. I still do this, as a matter of fact.

Ive never shelled out £40 on a game ever in my life due to it having nice box art. Ive always used resources to see if its worth getting, but nowadays, I dont really obey them. Back when I had a Playstation, ages ago, my bro was the one who bourght games, he was mildly into Final fantasy, but we'd play tekken and street fighter most ........

Not buy.. Possibly rent. I had magazines to tell me what to buy.

You choose your games based on reviews and not your interests ? :(

No.. But, games cost money. If a game looked interesting, I'd either rent it or look at reviews before making a purchase. And even with reviews, I'd usually still rent it.

That's the reason I bought Iron Sword when I was a kid.

All the games I had as a kid, I was given by my older brother and my cousins. They still pass along their games to me after they've played them. I think I've only bought 2, maybe 3 games my entire life. So yeah, I relied almost entirely on the choices of my brother and my cousins but I'm sure that on occassion they did buy games based on how cool the box art looked.

I find word of mouth was much more effective, but the back of ea sports games is unsurpassed as far as luring you in, the 'new features' part of the box is always so tempting.

(LOL) I used to do this. It was hilarious. If the box looked real good then I bought it. Sometimes though the game sucked ass. That was the bad part about it.

SONIC COMIC XD THAT pwned...

And yes, I did. For Shadow Hearts, the first game. Becuase I thought Alice looked pretty, and Yuri looked hawt.
