not saving

I was playing FF8 on my PS2, and every time I try to save itll say that it "failed to check memory card", when I know its there, and it has plenty of room on it, and it works on other games, but this one wont!

You need a PS1 memory card for PS1 games, even though you're playing on a PS2 :p
