They did... I recall once Wakka said his name, but it was not in Voice Acting, I never noticed they did not say his name until I read so..

I could of swore there was another thread about this but I can't find it. Anyway, they never say Tidus' name because you can name him anything. The technology could't allow itself to know more than one thing or else the cast members would spend forever making every letter combination. I didn't notice it until my 2nd play through the game to.:)

if they put MS Sam into the game, they could say his name, no matter what you named hi, but, that would just sound wierd
So yeah, its the same reason they never say the aeon names.

if you name people on a game with speech it makes it vey hard for anone to say that characters name.its quite obvious why.

they never say his name because at the very beginning you have the choice to choose Tidus name

Duh!
in FFX2 too, they only refer to him as "he" or "him"

it is kinda awkward...why dont they just make the name Tidus uneditable from the start like others.

Tidus' name is spoken in KH...

But it is never mentioned in FFX, because his name is user defined.

I was suprised when it was pronounced "tee-dus"

But when they let you name the character, you can never figure out how to pronounce the name...:(

His name appears in a lot of text conversations - in Zanarkand, then Besaid and Luca - but is never spoken, for aforementioned reasons. Personally, I think it would've been better if they'd simply given him a 'set' name. It would've made the spoken dialogue less awkward; and besides, he's called Tidus in the end credits anyway.

It proves that you do not have to say somebody's name often, I knew this person I talked too, realized I never knew the name...

the ideal solution would have a nickname you could give a character, that they would be referred to in the screens, but some dialog would still use their 'real' name.

It's because if you notice at the beginging you can change his name! So they I guess didn't want them saying a whole bunch of different names! That would of took more time on the game!

So It wouldn't be like:

"adsfe come here" adsfe=Tidus

-Wakka

Get my point!

Also because you can name him anything... they say: "You" or "Him" on FFX-2 instead of Tidus (pronounced Tid-us, not Tied-us).

yet.... why is cloud called cloud in ffvii: ac? i remember calling him Squall :p

Naming the characters once you have voice actors now is becoming more and more unrealistic, that's one of the plusses to X-2 that the characters already had set names they could actually say.
