They were deleted, although the admins say they "pruned" them. This is just a useless crappy word they use to make themselves feel superior, as if their godly powers weren't enough.

It was to make more database space or something like that.

Yes, much propaganda was spread about the prunings, when will the next one be would be a good question... will we ever know? Will rubah ever stop talking about RSL? Will RSL win sexiest female? Will RSL cut his beard? Will I stop talking about RSL?

They're just hiding the evidence by mass-slaughtering everything.

Posts and threads (Obviously) that were made in general chat got deleted about every year. I think they stopped "<I>pruning</I>" the old posts. What I do know is that they stopped pruning members...

One important thing to note: Crash loves the term "pruning".

It is widely known that moderators make natural gardeners.

there's tons of old old posts that are lost to time from before the latest incarnation of the boards, which dates from around March 2001.

Knock it off with the spam, please.

The staff used to mass delete posts to save room in the database, but I don't think we need to do that anymore.

I'm pretty sure I already covered that one quite sufficiently :)

So, you're saying you don't need to anymore? why is this?

crono_logical

We do still need to prune members :p

Primus Inter Pares

...you're telling me to stop posting in this thread aren't you?

This leads me to the question, after what time and how few posts are a user pruned?

RSL
11-23-2005, 12:27 PM
A member would only be pruned if they has zero posts and they had been registered a long time.

That's not true. I gave you guys MANY many members that haven't posted yet none were pruned...

crono_logical
11-23-2005, 01:02 PM
We only prune members that have never posted, not members that have even 1 post :p Unless someone makes a mistake, anyway :p

Basically to free up usernames really for others to use that might actualy post, can't think of any other purpose :p

Seriously, even if you give them member names with 0 posts and such (which isn't hard with nice search parameters) it's still extra work.

Some forums prune the threads automatically. It's so the hosts dont have to keep your crap on their system... But if you have your own server then it's different.......
